wouldn't that make her less suspicious? She could come and go at sharing meetings as she liked.

No Sharing member is left uninfested indefinitely. Melissa would have eventually been infested after awhile and monitored closely beforehand. There was no need to make her anything more than a minor character.
This great evil - where's it come from?
How'd it steal into the world?
What seed, what root did it grow from?
Who's doing this?
Who's killing us, robbing us of life and light, mocking us with the sight of what we mighta known?
Does our ruin benefit the earth, aid the grass to grow and the sun to shine?  Is this darkness in you, too?  Have you passed through this night?

Ya know, even if Mellissa wasn't an Animorph, it would've been cool to see her more in the series. Kinda sad that she only showed up, what? Twice, was it?

Why would that have been cool let alone necessary?

No point in hinting that this minor character was anything more than...minor.

The way book 2 played out, made me and possibly many others think Mellissa would become a more prominent character. She wouldn't even need to be an Animorph. She could have just been an ally that helped them, but not neseccarily knowing their identites.

Well, one question I have is, when is MM3 in relation to the main books?  If it was after David, it would make sense, they might be suspicious.  If it was before David, I don't know.

Melissa did have a lot of unused potential. I would have liked to see her used, but after Rachel sits in cat morph comforting Melissa it makes sense that she was never used. For that one book, it wasn't about yeerks versus humans, it was protecting one girl, and making her an ally would have endangered that protection.
Until then we fight.

Well, if it was after the David trilogy, then they probably didn't want new animorphs until after they were discovered.

They couldn't have made her an Animorph before the David trilogy in any case, since he was the one that brought them the morphing cube.

True.  So either way, they had a reason not to recruit her.

The character did have potential to participate more to the series. I always thought if Melissa had been an Animorph she would have felt somewhat at fault for her parents being voluntarily infested and would have fought to free them.
Jake and Marco's relatives were Controllers, but not voluntary, like the Chapmans. It would have been interesting to see how Melissa would have fared amongst them.

Was she ever physically described?!

I think she was in book two. Shorter than Rachel, and a different hair color.
