In the Pride Morgan asked Parker, "Can you help Silver? There are some things I need to take care of. I'll meet you back in the bar and we can discuss the next move."

Morgan and Gaz both walked into the bar. It had felt like ages since they had been in there.

Fletcher walked up. "It's about time you two came back! How did it go? Did you wipe the system?"

"Yeah," said Gaz, "but there's something else..."

Fletcher sighed. "Don't say something else. I don't like it when you say that. What is it now?"

Morgan handed Fletcher a computer pad with a file up. He didn't say a word. Fletcher took the pad with a confused look, but his expression changed when he saw what was on the screen.

"Your wife is alive?!" he exclaimed in shock.

<I'm fine,> Terenia lies, daring to look at him with her main eyes. She isn't prepared for the wall of emotion that hits her when she does so: guilt and betrayal mixed in with fear and longing. She finds herself faltering, searching desperately for words that will not come. She wants to apologize, for both the crimes he knows about and those that he hopefully never will.

<<I don't understand,>> she finds herself saying internally, so that only Efaen can hear, <<why do I care about hurting him so much?>>

<<Perhaps because you are not the cold-hearted warrior that you pretend to be,>> Efaen responds, not bothering to hide the smugness that Terenia can clearly read, <<Perhaps because, when you get down to what really matters, you are still just a lost, scared, confused human girl looking for someone to accept you.>>

<<Enough,>> Terenia says, breaking eye contact with Corliss as she does so, unable to bear the glaring truth of Efaen's commentary.

<Perfectly fine,> she repeats so that Corliss can hear.

Corliss looks down at the control panel.  "It's all right, you know," he says faintly.  "No one comes out of this mess completely fine."

((Sorry about the lateness, guys! I have been hit in the face with a fistful of summer laziness! >___<; Especially sorry to Parker. x3 ))

Keshin sighs, glancing at the Director and rolling his eyes. "You can, but you're going to get in a lot of trouble. I tried to take a job in this place recently and somehow ended up changing time and space. A lot of people have tried to help that woman and all they've come up with is bullocks."

<Yeah, no kiddin'. The guy's gonna get shot.>

<It might be best just to leave it. I know he isn't going to listen to me.>

<Then why bother?>

<Common courtesy I guess.>

<Since when did we do common courtesy?>

<Since we entered a Bar full of loonies. It has that effect on you.>

Mar's eyes widen as he hears the boy's explanation. Elayne being from the same universe as Trey is now seeming like a distinct possibility. Mar winces and states, ".....fine. But that does not make her a traitor. It merely makes her innocently unaware of the possible consequences of her actions! I..."

Mar closes his eyes and tries to find the words. "...I wanted something badly enough to double-cross everything I had known for it. Though I also felt that I had been betrayed. If the two are one and the same...then I still do not consider what Elayne may have done to be traitorous. And I do not want you to hurt the feelings of my sweet Elayne."

"Innocently unaware," Elayne echoed Mar, then gave a hollow laugh. "Until right now. I left Earth and came to the Bar, where I could probably happily live and set up a repair shop. But now I know the consequences of me avoiding my guilt."

She turned her eyes on Trey, her expression even more uncomfortable. "But if I were to go back to Earth now, to rectify what I did, Trey would probably be wiped out of existence." She sighed. "That nearly happened to me. I didn't like it much."

Mar seemed to be busy with another conversation, so Temrash went looking for Myitt outside. With a little time, he found her ship.

"Hey in there. Myitt? corliss? I'm back." Temrash said from outside the ship.

(I don't know if the ramp is down or not.)

(Yeah. Morgan and Gaz are already talking with Fletcher back in the bar.)

Fletcher was scanning the files. "It looks like she was moved right as your distraction started. It may not seem like it, but you were lucky you broke in there when you did. She was up next for the project."

Morgan closed his eyes. "Good," he said, "that means they haven't done anything to her yet."

((Probably not, unless you banged on the hull. But Hunter has been looking for someone to talk with. His character hasn't been answered yet.))

Terenia smiles sadly, somehow understanding for the first time that she isn't the only one affected by the war.

<It isn't fair you know,> she says with a sigh, <that it should come to this. The whole universe is falling apart and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. And we're just helpless to watch it happen, tearing our lives down as it does.>

---

Trey bites his lower lip, looking at Elayne helplessly.

"I can't say being erased from existence is on my to-do list," he says softly, glancing at Mar, "and I mean no offense, calling you a traitor. It's just...what people call you. I won't do it again. I just...people have rather strong feelings about you, you know. No matter what your boyfriend here thinks, he can't help how others view the past. Whether it's right or not."

(Yeah, maybe I should go help him.)

For whatever reason, Temrash didn't feel like shouting, just in case there was someone inside the ship. He went back towards the bar to see what else might be going on.

(I figure Paul is inside the bar, so Temrash is back inside. Hunter you can talk to him.)

At Trey's reference to Mar as her boyfriend, all the color that had been drained from Elayne's face returned in full force. "I'm--he's not--" she stammered, and then shook her head. "I know. You don't mean it to be rude. It's not your fault... you have no control over the situation." She looked just as helpless as Trey. What is one against so many? she asked herself, but her stomach churned uncomfortably at the thought of being the cause of wiping this poor boy from existence. She couldn't sacrifice him. She couldn't sacrifice anyone. It's why she had run away in the first place, because her father's life had been lost.

Corliss shakes his head, laughing softly.  "I don't think things are completely hopeless," he says, crossing his arms.  "Anyway, with whatever time we've got, I reckon I'd rather try and do something I believed in.  Even if that means giving up my old life, my old career, and becoming a fugitive.  I've gotten quite used to eating out of aluminium cans, at least."

"Oh," Trey says, his own face flushing, "I'm sorry....I just, you know...assumed. He's so protective of you, and...." he trails off, feeling incredibly foolish, and refuses to meet Mar or Elayne's gaze.

<I suppose it helps when you have something to believe in,> Terenia says wryly, <but I do admire your ability to abandon everything. I know what it is like to lose everything, but the difference is that you had a choice in the matter. Not many people get that luxury and choose the harder path.>

Gaz and Morgan were sitting at a table. Gaz had gotten the both of them a glass of rum. Fletcher was still skimming files on the computer pad. They were all waiting for Cortex to contact them with information.

Given what was at stake, it felt like the wait was forever. Gaz had finished her drink and headed back up to the bar for another.

(I attempted to draw Gaz and Morgan. You can find the pics in either my art thread in gen. fic. or my profile thread in social.)
