Trey is staring hard at Elayne, as though mystified. His trance breaks as Corliss, and then Mike, speak. As he listens his face reddens somewhat in a bit of a blush, and he rubs the back of his neck, as though embarrassed.

"Look," Trey says, "maybe my dad didn't know everything, and maybe I'm just some dumb kid, but I'm tellin' you what I know. Maybe things are different in some other corner of the galaxy, but on the Earth that I'm from the Yeerks are far from equal."

Trey sighs heavily and his gaze falls on Elayne again.

"As for a civil rights uprising," Trey says, some bitterness overriding his embarrassment, "yeah, sure, we had that. It came and went before I was born. The Yeerks lost that battle too, and I got the brand to prove it."

Trey yanks his sleeve up, showing Corliss the tattoo emblazoned on the inside of his wrist, a combination of the English letter 'Y' and the Galard equivalent.

"What d'you expect?" Trey asks, pulling his sleeve back down, "for hundreds of years humans considered people with different skin tone to be inferior animals. You expect a race of mind-controlling slugs to fare better in a world like that?"

When Trey pushed back his sleeve and Elayne saw the tattoo, she was immediately filled with profound sadness. She had visited tombstones of voluntary hosts--tombstones that had been defaced with the painted word "Yeerk," written as though it were a curse.

This tattoo was no less pitiful, no less permanent and scarring. Everything she had fought for in her own timeline had been lost in his.

Heaving a sigh, she mouthed, "At least he's alive." At least, she told herself, they didn't kill them all.

Corliss regains control and sits back, his eyes falling on Trey's tattoo.  He says nothing for a moment, and all his host can think of are broken and flickering images of human wars.  Concentration camps.

"Well," he finally exhales, half talking to these swirling, dismal images.  "I'm not going to stop fighting to help them.  We have no other choice."

Trey shrugs, "I don't blame you. I wouldn't wish this life on anyone, and if I had been alive during the wars I'm sure I would have fought same as you. As it is, I'm happy with just stayin' alive."

He forces a grin, although it comes across a bit shaky, "I wouldn't get too stressed about it. For all we know you're from a completely different time than me. Although..." Trey trails off, appearing to change his mind about voicing something.

Something about Trey's tone unsettled Elayne even further. "Although... what?" she asked quietly, a feeling of dread building up within her. There's no reason to believe we're from the same timeline. The chances of that are so minute, she told herself, but it did not help. She knew it had happened before; it could just as easily happen again. And if she were from his past, it meant that--No. She couldn't think about that.

Corliss waves a hand.  "I'm not sure I want to know," he mutters, looking away.

((Sorry, I only saw your OOC post, I didn't realize you added a response later.))

The Director nodded his head and said, "Alright then, do you have any personal effects you need to bring? We should probably get those out of the way before discussing exit strategies, codes, 'n all." He twists around to see if he can see the interior of the bar. "The coast seems clear of any on-lookers, so now'd be the best time." He claps his hands together and asks, "So what've we got?"

((No problem :) ))

<Just the portable pool,> Terenia says, gesturing to the small set-up in the corner. She walks over and begins to disassemble it, her stalk eyes maintaining a fairly steady gaze on The Director. With deft fingers, Terenia unhooks the portable Kandrona generator. Next, she produces a lid from one of the compartments which she seals over the top of the container holding the pools liquid. These items she inserts into a small bag, adding in a few packs of what looks like powder.

<If you don't mind,> she says after a moment or two of working in silence, <my life would be simplified if my captors were somewhat unsuccessful in their initial mission. If nothing else, I would like to find out what progress has been made. I should also wipe all of the ship's data before leaving. If you wait outside while I finish, I'll join you shortly.>

--

Trey grimaces, caught in his moment of indecision. For a moment he seems about to say something, but he catches himself and looks away again, acutely aware of the silence that has fallen.

"It's nothing..." Trey says at last, not meeting Elayne's gaze, "nothing."

"Good," Corliss replies flatly. "Now I can go on pretending that all this bloodshed hasn't been for nothing."

The Director gives Terenia a curt nod and says, "Of course." and walks out of the ship as the door closes behind him. Not wanting to look conspicuous, he leans against the hull and begins whilstling to himself.

As soon as The Director leaves the ship Terenia orders the hatch to close. It does so, and she hopes that the man does not think she is rescinding on their deal. She just wants to make sure that she is afforded a certain amount of privacy. Moving swiftly, Terenia leaves her bag on the floor and approaches the communications array. As Terenia works she can sense Efaen putting the pieces of her plan together with a growing sense of dread that she ignores. Focusing instead on the task at hand, Terenia keys in a few quick commands, and a moment later a voice prompt speaks.

"Live or recorded message?"

<Recorded,> Terenia says tersely.

<Terenia, what are you doing?> Efaen asks.

"Indicate destination."

<Visser Three's Blade Ship.>

<Terenia, this is a bad idea,> Efaen cries, the pieces clicking in place.

"Please state priority level: low, normal, high, emergency or classified."

Terenia hesitates before stating, <Classified.>

The computer is silent for a moment as it brings up the appropriate file for a recorded message. With luck, the transmission will be sent directly to Visser Three. With even more luck the heavy encryption will allow for it to arrive undetected and unaltered. While Terenia waits, Efaen pleads.

<You are going to kill them, Terenia. How does that help you?>

<If they are dead, they cannot hunt me down.> Terenia says, <I'll be free.>

"Please use the keypad to enter in a classified access code," the computer chirps in its annoyingly pleasant voice. Terenia enters in a series of Galaard and Yeerkish symbols. The computer pauses again, processing the code, before beeping in acceptance.

"Record message."

<Terenia, she will die too!> Efaen cries.

Terenia takes a deep breath. She knows that this message could very well kill everyone: Ossanlin, Aliciana, Claxter, Myitt. Tamora.

<Death is a sort of freedom,> Terenia says privately to Efaen, <I would rather personally deliver her a sort of freedom than let those meddlers allow her to crawl on her belly back to Visser Three.>

<What about Claxter?> Efaen asks, <he...I...>

Terenia ignores Efaen and, instead, speaks in open thought-speak to the recording message.

<This message is for Visser Three. The Andalite bandits have abducted my sis-> Terenia catches and corrects herself, <Sub-Visser Fifty-One. They intend on using his knowledge to attack the Blade Ship. They have at least one Dome Ship that is hidden in orbit, piloted by Captain Ossanlin. If you do not act now, you will all die.>

Terenia stops the recording and plays it back, ensuring that it is satisfactory.

<That's a lie, Terenia!> Efaen says, <there is no Dome Ship. There is no attack. You are being utterly selfish. You are killing them for your own personal gain and nothing more.>

<What is there left to me in this world but personal gain?> Terenia asks bluntly, <There is no one. There is nothing.>

<Please,>

<Computer, send message.>

The computer beeps in compliance, and the transmission begins its light-year journey to Earth.

The Director, still directly by the ship, can't help but hear the message Terenia was sending. Whatever was going on, was some pretty heavy ****. Though it wasn't really of his business, so he decided to merely think on the info presented to him. He knocks on the hull and calls out, "Almost done? You know the longer we're out here, the more odd it seems."

Terenia takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly. What's done is done, there is no taking it back now. Ignoring Efaen's angry cries, Terenia quickly sets about eliminating the evidence. She wipes the computers of anything that could be linked back to herself and then deactivates return communications. Once she is finished she steps back in satisfaction.

<Yes, I am finished,> Terenia says to The Director. She picks up her back, bending over to toss a few extra Dracon cartridges in, and orders the hatch to be lowered once more. It does so, and Terenia trots out.

<Ready,> she says.

The Director uses his hips to propel himself from leaning on the ship, "Good, we don't want your captor's brother getting anxious about you and me. My ship's over here." He leads her to the front of the bar, where sitting directly next to it, is a Bug Fighter. Only this Bug Fighter has a few oddities that would stand out only if you were paying close attention. The first detail is that the hatch has a vertical seam in it as though it were actually double doors. The other detail was that on one of the side of the seam was a small keyhole. Normally, these details would stand out if someone were to examine the ship, but luckily no one would even think to look at it. A perception filter subconsciously forces anyone nearby to completely disregard the ship as though it was never there. The Director stands directly next to the ship's "hatch" and says with outstretched hands, "Here she is."

"Maybe I should go back to Earth," Elayne murmured, lowering her gaze again. "I don't want what happened to your world to happen to mine." She gave a bitter smirk and rolled her eyes. "I'm not really done wallowing in self-pity yet, but if the consequence of me wallowing is something like what happened to your parents, it's not worth it."
