Now Lucan realized that perhaps his gamble of trusting Priton would not succeed. From his brief conversation with Genie he felt she trusted him and accepted his help. Priton on the other hand needed something more.

He still required knowledge to proceed further, but Priton did not wish to reveal why she was not accepted. He knew that to fulfill his honor he must assist Genie and Priton. “My species Code of Honor demands I must assist you. I trusted you with information and I ask that you simply trust me.”

Lucan smiled a predatory smile and his spots turned as blood red as his hair. “I am a Reln and there is no enemy that I cannot kill.”

"Remind me not to get on your badside then." Priton finished his whiskey. "Look, I'm not out to destroy the whole Yeerk Empire--"

Genie snorted.

Priton sighed. "Okay, let me back track. I'm not out to take it all out now. That's a bit too idealistic for me. I'm more interested in staying alive at this point. For the moment, that means staying out here," he gestured vaguely, not entirely sure where "here" was supposed to signify, "and staying out of trouble." From his tone, it was clear he didn't classify talking to Lucan as "staying out of trouble."

He smiled grudgingly. "Genie has a question for you."

A moment later, in a marginally friendlier tone, Genie asked, "What's with your spots?" She blushed a little. "Sorry. That sounded rude. I mean, why do they keep changing colors?"

Terenia senses a jumble of vibrations as Keshin reaches for her weapon and speaks.

<<Hear what?>> she asks, unable to hear anything further than a few inches around her clearly. She takes flight, buzzing around Joanne's head nervously for a minute, before she zips towards a dark mass of what she hopes are trees, landing amongst a vast expanse of what could be dirt.

<<I'm demorphing,>> Terenia says to Keshin, <<skulking around and hiding really isn't my cup of tea, and besides I'm sure their ships have left by now. Myitt made it seem like time was of the essence on her little mission.>>

Without waiting for her bodyguard's approval, Terenia quickly began to reverse the fly morph, her Andalite body grotesquely appearing from the insect.

Belzar's attention was drawn to another lifeform seemingly transforming from an insect. That was very strange, as nowhere in the history of his planet did a lifeform go through that kind of metamorphosis. It was impossible to tell if Belzar was surprised, since he wasn't capable of making facial expressions.

"What sort of place is this?" He asked aloud in his language. Though he doubted the lifeforms could understand it. Lifeforms from different continents in ancient times found it hard to understand each other, much less from different planets.

Lucan thought of how to best answer Genies question. “They are meant to reflect my feelings and influence the same feelings in others. To a fellow Reln the pattern is known, but to an alien species it may be confusing.”

Lucan stared into Genies blue eyes while his spots turned a neutral pink. “This color is meant to symbolize attraction to another.” Lucan reached up and grabbed his visor. He slowly removed it to reveal his whole face.

He had not lied when he said that Reln and Humans were similar because the only differences were the wet blue skin and the color-changing spots. Lucan opened his eyes revealing another difference in their appearance. There was a bright gold dot in the center that marked his pupil. The rest was the same neutral pink as his spots.

“Genie my species is not one to hide the truth and the truth is I find myself attracted to you.”

Elayne squeezed Mar's shoulder lightly before letting her hand drop to her lap. "I'm honored to be included among those names," she smiled to him and then stood, walking to the bar and ordering a glass of water for him and a ginger ale for herself.

When she sat down again, she slid his water to him and offered her fizzy drink. "As a kid, I used to drink ginger ale when I had an upset stomach. See if you like it."

"So why did you come here?" she asked, propping up her elbow on the table and watching him. "And in a mortal form? I mean... not that I'm complaining, but..." she gave a smile.

((Chad-Ask me to change it if you feel that what Keshin would hear does not make sense. ))

Keshin frowns as he suddenly hears a bizarre noise, almost like a cross between a very large cricket and a bumblebee. Although the sound does seem a bit tinny and metallic, too. Keshin whips around, looking for the source of the noise. It is then rather hard to miss the strange machine staring at the two of them in the distance. Keshin slowly backs up, waving his hands. "Whoah, whoah...we don't want any trouble..."

Keshin then glances toward the rapidly demorphing Terenia and mutters, "It's some kind of insect machine. Really huge though. We'll wait to see what it does and then get onto my ship."
*******************************************************************************************************************
Mar grasps the ginger ale and then blushes, looking slightly embarassed. He turns away. "I...I came here to...to offer to pay the tab of my Precious. She had...racked up a huge bill with the bartender, and I wanted to help. Nothing important, and yet...I end up stuck here." Mar laughs. "I wish I had come here for some more promising reason. As to why I am mortal..."

Mar taps at the table with his fingers, looking off. "...that is because the being known as Crayak holds the strongest dominance over this area. He is a Highest with similar abilities to myself. He fights with a somewhat younger Light side Highest for control of your world through their set of Rules and their Game. Let us say that it would be unwise for a Highest on my side of the fence to intrude in another's territory when he is not established there. So I came in a way that would mask my aura. I did not intend to stay long."

Genie didn't have to be able to read his mind to know Priton wasn't happy.

She cleared her throat. "Thank you," she said, blushing deeper. "I..." she stared at him for a moment. "I find you attractive, too."

Priton made a derisive noise.

"Could you excuse me for a moment?" Genie started to slide off her bar stool.

<NO!>

She stopped, grinding her teeth in frustration, and settled for turning her head slightly to stare across the room. <What is your problem?>

There was a pause. <I don't have a problem.>

<Obviously you do.>

<I don't have a problem,> Priton repeated. <Continue.>

Genie turned back to Lucan. "Sorry," she muttered.

(it's fine, Shen.)

Belzar didn't understand the lifeform, but his status was deteriorating. He noticed that his arm blade was still out, and decided to draw it back in. It jammed halfway, but he wiggled it a bit and it completely withdrew. Huis scans indicated there was a structure nearby, though it was largely made up of the kind of plantlife around him. Almost as if someone had rooted up the large sturdy plants and contrusted something as his kind would forge metals to create theirs. He began walking towards the structure in the hopes of maing it there.

Elayne raised an eyebrow in amusement at Mar's blush, and then slowly smiled at the reasons he gave. "Mar, you're incredibly endearing," she laughed quietly.

Settling more comfortably in her seat, she said, "I know about Crayak only from the stories of the Yeerk resistance fighters on Earth; one in particular had interaction with him. But, from what you've told me, you're not playing a game like he is, right?"

She idly traced the grain of the weathered table. "How will you leave this place? Will you need Ossanlin's help?"

Terenia finishes her demorph, stalk eyes appearing last. As soon as she is fully Andalite again she focuses her attention on the new creature. It is odd looking, and her first impression is that something is terribly wrong with it.

<It looks like....some kind of robot,> Terenia says to Efaen, <a rather...broken...r obot.>

Now that she is fully Andalite she is able to see partially towards the shipyard. She has no way of knowing whether or not the Mirage has left, as it is out of eyeshot, but the bit of the yard she can see seems calm, quiet. Definitely not as flurried with action as it had been when Terenia first disappeared. Feeling slightly more confident, she stepped out of the tree-line and over to Keshin.

<What d'you reckon it is?> she asks, watching as the machine walks jerkily towards the bar. It looks as though it would fall apart at any moment.

Keshin frowns and glances over at the machine. From its design Keshin is guessing that it can walk in some way, and it seemed to be trying to say something to him earlier.

<Say somethin', Kess? You sure? Sounded like crickets chirpin' to me. Or maybe robot twitters.>

<It wouldn't have that function unless it needed to communicate. The sound was not threatening.>

Keshin then turns to Terenia and says, "I think whatever this thing is might be either sentient or designed to communicate with another race. It seems like it's built to be approachable and made some kind of noise earlier. And that noise sounded like a form of expression rather than something designed to instill fear. It's likely that there's an organic race that resembles this broken-down thing." Keshin shrugs, nudging the dirt. "...I would try to fix it, but we have to get out of here before somebody notices that we're leaving."

Keshin then looks a bit worried. "...I hope that Andalite isn't good on his word that they'd be able to detect you. Getting shot down by a Dome ship isn't big on my list of things I want to do today."
*****************************************************************************************************
Mar's expression becomes rather nervous as soon as he hears Elayne's final words. His body squirms and he then says, "...I cannot think of any way of escaping this body that does not involve killing myself. I have had to do it once in the past to follow Myitt, though all I did was disengage myself from the form and leave a corpse behind. Ossanlin saved the body for me for when I returned here. It would have decayed otherwise."

"As for Crayak...aspects of him disturb me," states Mar, looking uncomfortable. "I do not understand why he would feel the need to eliminate all sentient species except those he has created. It seems a poor way to gain energy and essentially fruitless. Is he really that obsessed with foiling his rival? ...and of course I play my own version of the Game." Mar rolls his eyes. "I'm just not doing it in this universe. Why else would there be Rules governing what I can and can't do? I do not want to play Games, really. But I seem to have been forced into it by my opponent. Though ours resembles a war a bit more closely, and we...well, let's just say I have a long way to go." Mar seems very bothered by this fact.

Terenia glances towards the ship yard nervously, as though she expects Ossanlin to suddenly appear.

<I don't know,> she admits, <he may have been running his mouth, so to speak. Trying to scare me into staying here. But when Efaen was free she did witness some strange behavior from Ossanlin that was certainly not within an average Andalite's capabilities. Whatever his deal is, it certainly isn't normal.>

She paws at the ground tentatively, staring at the broken down creature as a means of distraction.

<You said it tried to communicate? Hm, I wonder if Efaen's translator chip would be able to work on a robot language. Regardless, it should be able to understand thought-speak.>

She broadcasts her thought-speak slightly louder, directing it towards the broken machine.

<Uh, hello there. My name is Terenia,> she says a bit awkwardly, <if you don't mind me saying, you look as though you've seen better days. What happened?>

Lucan smiled when Genie said she was attracted to him. “I am glad that your feelings reflect mine Genie.” He knew from her slight actions though that Priton was displeased, however he allowed her to stay. Perhaps because Genie trusted and had feelings for him, Priton was beginning to trust him as well.

He had to show his sincerity to Genie and convince Priton to fully trust him. “If ‘staying alive’ is your only goal then I can provide protection. As a Reln I will give you my Word of Honor that no harm will befall you Genie. I will also request that you accompany me on my ship and I will take you wherever you desire Genie.”

Elayne watched Mar in concern. The thought of him dying made her more than a little uncomfortable. "Is this part of your personality tied to this particular body?" she asked before looking away in embarrassment. From what he had said earlier, she knew that his true self would be only amused by her, at the most. She was ashamed that losing that regard he had for her was her main fear. After all, she hardly knew him, and he belonged to a higher order of species than she could even comprehend. Still, despite all that....

"I imagine he has his own story and reasons, just like you do," she said on the subject of Crayak, looking back at Mar. She wasn't sure she actually wanted him, considering what intimations he had given about his purpose, but she decided to leave that thought unspoken.
