Ossanlin gestures with a hand.  <There's no other option that I can see.  We have reached our best compromise...now we just have to "give it a shot" as humans would say.  The worst we can do is fail horribly and die.>  Ossanlin chuckles ruefully.  <But we'll do our best to avoid that potential outcome, and possibly free three lives from their captors and/or themselves and gain valuable tactical data that will inconvenience the Yeerks terribly if not even tip the war in our favor.>

"I don't have much of a choice, do I?" Terenia asks with her signature scowl, "this is the best we've got, so we may as well get it done and over with so I can move on with my life. Even though I know you're only doing this for Efaen and intel."

She rubs her hands together, staring at them as though the human flesh is foreign to her.

<Do you actually intend on freeing me?> Efaen asks.

<My intentions don't matter,> Terenia shoots back, <it's not as if we're going to succeed. And if we do, I doubt I'll have much of a choice in the matter. Although I have no idea how they plan on protecting you from Visser Three once he realizes you're free. I suppose you could always retreat to the Homeworld...>

<Never,> Efaen bristles, <I am no coward.>

<No, I guess not.>

Myitt laughs mirthlessly.  "You think I'm considering risking my neck for your Andalite host and your human sister?  There's hardly any intel involved in this that will help my cause.  In fact it's already risking the security of one of our best men, and a post on the Blade Ship.  I want to help, I really do, but don't think it's because I favor your host over you, or vice versa."

She finishes the message to Hadrin, detailing the street location, date and time Zorish is to meet their little band.

"117 Southeast Main Street, the day after tomorrow at 10 AM Mountain Time, standard Earth reckoning," she reads back to the group.  "That should give us enough time to travel there, and plenty of time for Zorish to accept."  Myitt smiles a bit.  "Time for a drink, too.  It's across from the International UFO Museum Center, heh, just a little joke.  We'll have to be careful, though, according to these scans it's only a few blocks from the city police station."  She pauses, ****ing her head curiously.  "That may work in our favor, especially if the Roswell police force is uninfested."

"I wasn't referring to you," Terenia clarifies, "you've been rather helpful, and I entirely understand if you wish to withdraw your immediate involvement in this situation. I don't know why you're helping me, but I do appreciate it. Your presence isn't the result of some delusion of a higher moral standing or," Terenia glances slyly at Claxter, "of a chance in hell of turning this into some romantic movie."

Keshin shrugs, jerking his thumb at Mar. "No offense, but that guy looks like a total lunatic. And I hear he thinks he owns Myitt's soul. Whack. Job. We'd prefer to finish off our business with you right here and now." Keshin grins, waving his hands. "No offense to you or anything. You seem like a really nice lady."

Keshin nods a bit. "And yeah, the drug addiction can be hard to handle. It never fully goes away, you know. You can recover, but you always want what you think is just a little taste of that beer. As a Yeerk...I think it's kind of crazy that human beings can experience such powerful cravings. We've never had anything like that."

Elayne turned to look at Mar and grinned. After what he had told her she was inclined to agree with Keshin. Nevertheless, there was something interesting and endearing enough about Mar that she knew she was not through speaking with him.

Looking back to the bounty hunter, she smirked. "Wonder what it's like to infest a Taxxon. An alcoholic human host can't be worse than that."

Ossanlin sighs internally, then speaks up.  <You will believe what you choose to believe Terenia.  If you call a passionate aversion to slavery a pretense at higher moral standing, then you are partially correct.  My species has left a mark on you and it is most certainly not erasable, but perhaps I can mitigate what they've done to you at least a bit.  I seek to help make right what others of my species have made wrong, I seek to preserve life and abolish slavery.  And I seek the lesser of two evils in the largest battle of all, being that I've had a conversation with him recently.>

Ossanlin shakes his head and falls silent...he had spoken for too long, tried to explain his true motives too much to Terenia...hopefully he hadn't said too much.  <You will not believe me if I say I care about your life and your freedom as well, even though it is true.  You're a slave to Visser 3 as much as Efaen is a slave to you.  And your sister is a slave to her past.  You don't have to like me, it's obvious that you don't, but it would be nice if you would admit at some point that I'm trying to help you.  Especially after we free your sister.>  Ossanlin shakes his head.  <Nevermind.>

Ossanlin turns his main eyes to look at Myitt.  <So you really want to do this urban?  I still think it would be best to ambush them outside the city.>

Keshin groans out loud. "I hear that that's horrible. You barely even have control over the mind. The Taxxons are voluntary, but their desire for food is so all-encompassing that no Yeerk can truly hold it back. Humans seemed like...a much more rational species. My hope when I went to Earth was to experience the pleasure of beating down a reasonably intelligent involuntary host. Instead..." Keshin stares off. "...I ran into Joanne. And that's when I couldn't take it anymore."

Keshin then puts his arms behind his head. "But we might as well get this over with. As soon as you want to leave, I'll arrange for a pilot to pick you up. And anyone who knows me realizes that I don't go back on my word during a deal. Well, unless the person's ripping me off. Then it's on."

Elayne grinned. "I bet that's a sight to see," she told him. "After your little faster-than-light jog to where Thordon and Mar were earlier, I know for damned sure I wouldn't wan to screw with you two."

Draining the rest of her beer and setting the empty mug down on the table, she said, "Do you want the names verbally or in writing?" She had to fight a giggle. "You're gonna be so pissed when you learn who they are."

Myitt pauses, glancing at the others.  "I still haven't sent it," she says simply, and scans the area for a rural county road they can use.  "Would this be better, perhaps?  Yes, I think this would suit our purposes."  She shows them the translucent map.  "The end of County Road 51.  Little dirt road."  She smiles thinly.  "A dead end."

"In writing," mutters Keshin. "I don't want anyone else to overhear the information before I can tell it to them. I'm assuming this bloke over here doesn't give a crap about this information, so if he sees the paper it isn't really a problem," says Keshin, taking one of his arms from behind his head and jerking his thumb at Mar.

<Yeah, he doesn' seem like he'd be involved in any of this.>

<No kidding. He looks more like he'd be involved in the French Revolution. Marching to the guillotine.>

<What if she doesn' tell us the truth? The wrong names.>

<Well then no harm no foul. Sukohn'll be giving us money for nothing. Either way we win.>

"Reasonable enough," she smiled. She grabbed what appeared to be a sufficiently clean napkin that had not yet been ringed with condensation from a drink. Flattening it on the tabletop, she pulled out a pen from her belt and began writing on the soft paper. The first name came easily enough: Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill. It was not so difficult to incriminate an Andalite, but one of her own race...? Finally, she wrote the rest of the names, ending with Jake Berenson. Wordlessly, she slid the napkin to Keshin, her blue eyes turning to his for his reaction. Most she knew he likely would not recognize, but it was possible he would notice one of them shared a prominent Yeerk's host's last name.

Ossanlin nods at Myitt.  <Yes I think rural is better.  Perhaps we can have a 'vendor' at the previous urban location selling 'replicas' of the Escafil device.  Perhaps someone at the rural location had shown it to the city vendor and and has toldl him he is ready to part with the device for the right price...but he doesn't want to show it in town because he feels it's worth a great deal...What do you think Terenia?  Myitt?>

Myitt grins.  "You'd make a pretty good salesperson on Earth, you know that, Ozzy?"  She amends the message to explain the new, rural location.  "I think I know who can help us, too.  I'll see if he can meet you there, this one might be too risky for me.  Sorry, Ossanlin."

She exhales.  "Alright.  Does this sound okay?"  After a moment's pause she duplicates the message to include an English translation, just in case.

"Sorry," Terenia says to Ossanlin, sounding a bit deflated, "I just don't like it when other people make decisions for me, no matter what their motive. It's been kind of an ongoing theme of my life. Every time I get some control over things, it gets snatched away again."

She peers over Myitt's shoulder at the screen, "that seems fine. The only issue is that if it's an empty space like that Zorish may decide to have reinforcements on call. If we're in the middle of nowhere, they'll fire indiscriminately."
