((I agree Tara, everyone here is a good example I think.  Parker is probably the most obvious example since most SPARTANs look the same unless they choose to paint symbols or whatnot on their armor, yet his SPARTAN is original with his own story and background, he is certainly not Master Chief.  And none of us are characters from the books that I know of.  We all have rich, dramatic background stories and our own personalities.  You're not the lone gunman, you're just the bannerwoman.  :p ))

Ossanlin watches Alic go and considers following after her and Claxter, after all he felt responsibility for them both.  He WAS responsible for Claxter's actions now.  He thought the young warrior wouldn't do anything to harm Terenia...he seemed to be sympathizing with her.  Perhaps this would all sort itself out.  If Efaen decided to become voluntary....but that was highly unlikely and he would not ask her to allow Terenia back into her head.  Ossanlin rubs both temples and takes a deep breath, calming his mind and letting his hands drop to his sides.  To anyone, he would appear to be in a trance.  His fur ripples irridescent for a moment as he reaches out with his mind to find calm in the void between time.  After a few minutes in trance he returns to the here and now.  He feels infinitely better, peace of mind is a truly wonderful thing.

He signals the BT to bring him a fermented grass drink and sets it on the floor, inserting a hoof and drinking slowly as he waits for the entourage to return to the bar.  He swivels a stalk-eye toward Keshin, recalling the conversation that had occurred while his mind had been entranced.  <I suppose we both look at it from a different angle, biased by our species.  I see Efaen, a slave under absolute control by a hostile party...Terenia.  You see Terenia, a slave or as good as without a host and you see Efaen as a solution for Terenia's slavery, despite Efaen's subjugation.  The fact is, Terenia needs a voluntary host, that is the only solution.  We will have much more information once we can speak to Efaen without Terenia.  We need to speak to her before leaping to any conclusions.>  Ossanlin's thought-speach is calm and possessed, as it is most times.  The serenity in his mind helped him maintain that unbiased tone despite the passion he felt regarding involuntary infestation.

Morgan watched what was going on and said, "Now what in the 'verse are they up to? This place is never dull, I'll give it that."

((Just a note, guys, if anyone is upset over not being able to use their current characters, there is also Estelore's bar at the end of the universe thread.  It's Hitchhiker's Guide inspired, seems to be a bit more slapsticky, and I think she'd be happy to get some company :) ))

Corliss steps back against the open doorway and lets Parker walk by with the tupperware pool and its fading, portable Kandrona wave/particle generator.  He then looks over at Ossanlin and Keshin, curiously.

"Well, here's the thing too, Ossanlin: Not to put you guys on the spot, but how do you know Keshin doesn't have an involuntary host?  I mean, we only have their clever multiple personality display and their backstory to judge them.  You know as well as I that Keshin could simply be acting.  I only mention this because you bring up a good point, I reckon someone should hear Efaen's side of the story, and hope that she asks for something more civilized than murder."

<And you wanted to put them on the spot,> Mike interjects.

If Corliss could have grinned, he would have.  <Sort of.>

(More Library time.)

Claxter was trying to see if he could unhook the container from there it was set, and Zoshonel was trying to gather Efaen up to carry her when Parker came in carrying a container.

"Hey parker, can you help me with Efaen?"

<I see you brought another container. There is one here, and it may be more suitable if we can detach it.>

"We managed to get Efaen away when Terenia decided to sneak a feeding in. If we can wake her up, then we can talk to her. Maybe get some progress done on saving her sister. Hey, how long can she stay in that machine?"

<Until three days after it runs out of Kandrona supply. We could just leave her here until we find a more suitable host. for now, we can move them out of this ship and into the bar.>

((Not so much a serious tone all the time, no.  But take a look at the current plotline we're following.  We have a serious situation going on right now, and like any dramatic storyline, a little humor is good.  Too much makes it all feel silly, and takes away from a life and death situation that is currently under debate between the characters.  I think the dramatic element is a big reason why we're interested in writing here so long (and some of us have been using this setting and these characters for over a decade); it's more than just wisecracks, dimensional rifts and bar fights.  No really...  ;D  It's also useful for your character to fit in to that situation.  If someone walks in acting silly or raucous in a real bar where a football game is on, or a serious debate is happening, most people would probably not talk to that person--but if that person sits down and engages people, or starts a conversation, or hell, sits down and broods over a drink--then it's realistic to think people could be interested in learning more about him.  At least, that's what we'd do here :)

More importantly, all of our characters are original characters, even if they are from a fan universe.  That means you should take some time to think about your new character's background, family, history, personality, and motives for wanting to be at the bar.  Just walking in as a cartoon character or a parody of a preexisting character frankly isn't using the kind of creative writing skills we're trying to keep up.  It's not trying to be elitist or anything, just trying to keep a flowing storyline with deeper character development, and to encourage imaginative writing.  And of course have fun at the same time.

I just noticed that it doesn't specify in Nikki's original post whether or not original characters are mandatory.  Technically they aren't mandatory, but maybe we should put something in there that strongly encourages them, or does require them?  I'd say we might need character sheets, but part of the fun of the bar is talking to people and letting them explain themselves without knowing their whole background--as long as the writer knows more about the character.  What do you guys think?  Am I way off base?))

(( I agree Tara. I don't really care what universe your character is from, so long as it has a history and personality of it's own. We've had some non originals in here before (wasn't v3 here once?) but they tend not to last long, and that's probably because thru aren't as interesting :P

Tara, idk if I would want character sheets. I like uncorking information slowly about my characters. Makes it more realistic, I think. Wouldn't mind an OC only rule, except in necessary circumstances.

Shifting gears, I'm currently stuck in an airport for God knows how long, so feel free to wake Efaen so Jessi does not die of boredom. ))

Ossanlin nods at Corliss.  <That's true, however you seem to have a rather...extensive. ..relationship with Keshin.  I trust you Corliss, should I not?  From what I've heard, the relationship between Keshin and Joan is much more symbiotic than the relationship between most others.  A sickness that Joan can only live through with Yeerk support.  A Yeerk that goes through pains to meet those needs instead of merely finding a host in better health?  If you tell me Joan is involuntary, then I would avocate a talk with her, but it sounds like they need each other.  Then again, I may be misinterpreting the entire situation.>

Ossanlin looks around the bar again, shrugging slightly.

Artemis thought she was going to become dizzy with all the commotion that was going on. She watched people rush here or there, doing this or that, to the point she wasn't even sure if it was a Bar anymore, but a secret base she didn't know about.

Joanne breaks out in a wide grin. "Hey, ya arrogant bums. What's this about talkin' about me like I ain't here? I'm gonna have my say whether you or Kess likes it or not. Well...Kess could stop me. But he doesn't."

Joanne stands up and begins to pace around the Bar a bit. "Right, now. Kess could be pretendin' ta be me. An' I could even show the furball a good reason he'd do it.  Since only a few of ya have seen my lil' secret. But the thing is...Kess could've made it big in his creepy hometown with me, and he didn't. Least that's what he says. He's the only person who's done anything like this for me, an' he's my friend. I don' like it when people accuse my friends, right? You wanna prove a point? Well use somebody else. Unless you want Kess to use the pool. We'd be willin' ta test it."

Corliss purses his lips, hiding a smile.  "You can relax, Joanne.  I didn't want to put my point into action.  I was merely pointing out that the situation Terenia is in could be happening to any of us, if we had less beneficial acquaintances."  He glances at Ossanlin.  "And honestly, Ossanlin, I may completely agree with our mutual stance against the taking of involuntary hosts, but I can't go round acting as the bloody police all the time, just because I disagree with it.  Terenia and Efaen may be in far greater trouble now than they would be together, and in the presence of Visser Three, even with Efaen subdued against her will.  There may be more to this than there appears."

"I hear a lot of the battles that go on in th black." she pushed aside a part of her hod to show a folded razor fan, daggers, and a collapsable bow. "I was raised well, to be able to defend myself if need be. What exactly Am I looking forward to out there?" she asked seriously.

Ossanlin nods at Corliss.  <Indeed, and that's why I'm advocating a talk with Efaen.  Having two perspectives on the matter, even if both are flawed, is much better than having one alone.  And remember, Efaen is one of my people, at least she rather appears to be.  I would be turning my back on her if I let Terenia reinfest her without her permission.  And if I were merely cold and calculating, Terenia wouldn't even have a chance.  At that point I would simply not allow any Yeerk to possess a morph-capable body if it were in my ability to stop it.  Thank the Homeworld I'm not that way, I know some people who are.  They wouldn't even care about Efaen's well-being, most-likely they'd ship her off to the homeworld for interrogators to strip her mind of any and all knowledge she has regarding Yeerks and their plans and movements.  As I said, all I want to do is talk and avoid leaping to conclusions.>

((Happy Christmakwanzaakuh everyone!))

Terenia, back in her pool, could sense nothing. She did feel a sense of unease, though, probably a result of her being lifted from the pool and the various vibrations. Then, of course, there was Claxter and Aliciana's thought-speech, which she could hear clearly. Unsure of her future - whether she would be allowed to remain in the pool, given a new host, or salted like an overgrown snail, Terenia held perfectly still. She wanted to absorb as much Kandrona as possible without wasting any energy. She would need it if she were forced out of the pool.

On the ship deck, Efaen stirs slightly, but otherwise remains unconscious.
