"I am ready." Temrash said.

"Me too. I think. Yeah. Yeah, I'm ready." christine said.

**************

"Sir! Escape pods sighted, exiting the moon base!" One of Visser 21's subordinates said. "Orders?"

"Send two bugfighters to apprehend the people in the pods, but take them alive and unharmed." He said. Better they be captured by someone who would rather not harm them unless Temrash ordered it, than to be blasted down or captured by a loyalist. "And hurry, before someone else gets them!"

"Of course, sir. Let us get the personal points, instead of someone else. Excellent thinking."

"You learn quickly." He said with a smile.

***************

Asmodee's Yeerk glared, but was at a loss for anything to do. His body stopped twitching as he relaxed, though his eyes still burned hatred. "Your blade is nearly useless against this body's hide." He said. Leaving out that part about the skin around the throat not being as tough as other parts.

Mar straps himself into the nearest seat idly, closing his eyes. I'll just have to take the initiative then... Mar feels a sense of weightlessness and a burning pain and suddenly everything is clear. Reality has spread out before him, much as it had when he attempted to revive Myitt with Ossanlin. He can see both ships and their locations very clearly now. Now all I have to do is...

Mar then carefully shifts the space around the two ships so that their party will have a slight edge when they exit. He's not sure if he's done this precisely right, but their entire plan hinges on the two ships coming out of Z-Space right next to one another. It isn't much, but...what else can I do? I can hardly use one of these confounded machines.

Mar then opens his eyes tiredly. He glances around and smiles at Myitt. "I...do hope we get out of this alright, precious."

Ossanlin takes a deep breath and fills his lungs with sweet air, the influx of precious O2 burning his constricted lungs as he takes a few more ragged breaths.  He stands up, a bit shaky at first, but steadies.  He lashes his tail around a couple of times and winces at the pain.  <You have no idea Aliciania-ren.>  Ossanlin tacks the andalite endearment onto Alic's name before he thinks and widens his eyes a bit.  <Uhm...that is...thank you, for saving me.>   He quickly turns his attention back to Asmodee and the Yeerk controlling him.

<You know Yeerk, if I were any other andalite, your host's head would be rolling and your death would be happening right now.>  Ossanlin steps forward and bends his torso a bit to retrieve his two katana, wincing again at another unexpected pain.  No blood adheres to the blades thanks to the alloy that was used to forge them.  <Thing is I care more about sentient life than most of my species, and you happen to be inhabiting a colleague and fellow honor-bound warrior.  If you disengage from him of your own free will, we will supply you with a secure pool and a kandrona generator.  You will not starve, but I will promise you nothing more than that.  If you do not accede...well Asmodee can certainly survive for more than three standard days, which is more than can be said for you.>  Ossanlin quickly examines his katana and sheathes them in one fluid motion.  <If you suffer kandrona starvation, it will be no one's fault but your own.  Either way Asmodee will have his body back and I will pity the Yeerks that held him down for you.>

A single stalk-eye watches the odd trio off the corner of the bar...Hunter he recognizes...the fox-like being from before....but the others?  What looked to be a human in some strange armor...perhaps related to the three men sitting in the bar already?  No, probably not...the armor was completely different...yet another variant of reality involving human spaceflight?  And the amorphous amoeba-like being was nearly beyond anything Ossanlin had seen before.  All this passed through his mind in brief moments, his main attention never leaving Alic and the hunter.

******************
Seran

"All stop, transition to real-space on my mark!  Ecti, Gren, Ergat, mark!"  The blade-ship exits from z-space, the main shield-array weaving a barrier of energy around the ship immediately, all weapons powering.

"Sir, scans show the fleet has already moved on the coordinates of the rebel base!"

"What?!  NO!  Whichever pompous, self-imposed idiot of a Visser gave them the order will have me to answer to!  I'll starve him and then throw him into z-space!"  Seran looks around in a fit of rage.

"Get to the fleet now!  I WILL have this day!"  He looks around his viewscreens wanting to hurt something...anythin g.

*******************************
Visser 17

"Sir, two Skrit-Na craft have exited the base."

"Apprehend them at once!"  Visser 17 grins to himself, his human host's face twisting around the unfamiliar expression.

"Scans show Visser 21 has already dispatched intercept craft."

"Without an order?  Reroute two escort Fighters to intercept and send a transmission to Visser 21.  Transmission states... Visser 21, I did not give the order for you to apprehend fleeing craft.  Order your fighters to stand down, I will deal with them personally....end transmission."

"Sir, we have registered synotensic energy signals emitting from the moon...they match recorded values for rebel explosives, shall we move to safe distance?"

"Please...were you hatched yesterday?  Why would these scum blow up the only hole in the galaxy that they have?  Continue attack runs, and apprehend those fleeing vessels!"

Visser 17 nearly rubbed his host's hands together in glee...if it were not for such days, he was certain he would've abandoned life long ago.

Alic blushes at Ossanlin's nickname for her but doesn't take her blade or glaring eyes off of the grounded yeerk.
In private thought-speech to Ossanlin, she didn't hide her concern. <Are you alright, dear? I almost thought he had you.>
Then aloud for the controller to hear, <I say we starve him out.>

Visser 21's bugfighter had just apprehended one of the pods when he received the message from Visser 17. He sent a message back.

"Oh come now, Visser 17, sir. You have the forward attack on the moon, and all the glory that it entails. Let me keep the two straglers for myself. I already have one of them, and the other will be contained within seconds. Besides, I'm picking up scans in real space from the rendevous point. Visser Eight will be here soon." He said, using stall tactics. He wasn't a total wuss. Maybe it partly came from working for a guy that was scary enough to almost kill a higher ranking officer without suffering the death penalty. Not that he could muster up Temrash's famous wrath.

*****************

Asmodee was trying to think of something to say or do, but the bloodloss was making his head swim. The two largest gashes had slowly covered his chest with blood, and even though the wounds could easily be repaired, right now they were bleeding openly. Dizzyness took over, and he passed out.

********************

"One of my people has apprehended some allies of Myitt's, but I'm not sure how long he can hold them." Temrash said to everyone. "We need to think of a plan of action for that." He sent a message to Myitt as well.

"Gerard, get clear of those ships," Reven snaps, setting his own small pod's tiny z-space engines to their encrypted rendezvous coordinates.  "It looks like we have a couple of Bug fighters on our tails, too.  Autopilot should detect them and go into evasive action, but start to engage your z-space drive, that's an order."

"Yeah, um, right, sir," Gerard breathlessly, grimacing as the autopilot narrowly avoids hitting the underside of the cruiser.  He engages the z-space engine, which automatically sets the coordinates for their fallback point.

Reven himself swoops low to try and avoid the incoming fighters.  Their drives would soon send them far away from any danger, but it was going to be a very close thing indeed.

"WARNING," is all Reven's computer says before, far behind them, the self destruct mechanisms built into the walls of their base implode the entire structure.  At first great gushes of water exude up through the surface--partially groundwater, partially the base's primitive piping system.  Then, what remains is vaporized into atoms, sending a tremendous shockwave through the moon and creating a fiery crater hundeds of feet deep.  Whole sections of rock collapse into the gaping mess.

---

"Alright, Mar, let's hope we've both worked our magic," says Myitt tersely.

"Exiting z-space, drives powering down," the Cruiser's computer states coolly.  Myitt quickly orients the ship into the correct upward position, slamming full power to the front shields and helping Zoshonel to blast both of the powerful Dracon cannons at the underside of Seran's Blade Ship.

They have emerged almost where they wanted to--at the Empire's failsafe point not far from the rebel base, at an almost vertical obtuse diagonal angle to the Blade Ship and a little off-kilter, but careening upwards several hundred meters from under the larger and more powerful ship.  The Cruiser's boomerang shape is all too pertinent.

"Holy crap we're gonna die!" Myitt yells through gritted teeth as she fires again, getting close to the Blade Ship's underside.  Too close!  The Cruiser flies up and she pulls it into a backflip, narrowly missing the ship and coursing downward to right itself again for another pass.

They were fast, but one good hit from that Blade Ship and their sheilds would be history.

She barely registers the transmission from Temrash, indicating something about rebel pods being chased by someone he knew on the inside.  "Hang on, Temrash, kinda busy here," Myitt says as they cruise closer to the Blade Ship's underbelly again.  "Zoshonel, get ready for another shot."

---

"Looks like Seran and Myitt have jumped out," Corliss calls, tracking their progress on his personal computer links as he sits at the manual controls in The Vagabond.

(Z-Space capable escape pods? That seems a bit off to me.)

"I've got a beat on it." Zoshonel said.

"We'll come out any second." Temrash said. "We really don't want to have to tear through an enemy fleet to get to Seran."

*****************

Visser 21 watched as the rebel base detonated in bright but silent glory. "Well, well. Looks like the rebels evacuated and destroyed evidence. Brace for impact!"

"Yes Sir!" A subordinate replied.

"Prepare to re-enter the black!" Gaz yelled. "Morgan, think you can sneak at 'em from the front?"

"You got it," Morgan said.

"All hands ready!" Gaz said.

Suddenly, the white was replaced by black and stars. The Vagabond was behind and The Cursed Pride had just appeared in front.

"Open fire!" Gaz yelled.

Shal clenches her jaw, as her hands move quickly over the weapons console. Her eyes remain locked on the screen as she begins to fire on the other ship on Gaz's command.

((They're not escape pods, they're small Skrit Na craft, somewhere along the line they were just called "pods".  Besides, they're in the middle of nowhere, you think I'd strand my poor guys in front of an armada without reliable spaceships? xP  The leader of the rebellion is smarter than that, I'd hope!))

"Seran isn't near the armada yet, they went on from their hold point to the base without him," Myitt says quickly to Temrash.  "I'm sure he's happy about that.  Fire, Zoshonel, for chrissakes, we've got a lock and we're coming in fast!"

---

"'ello love," says Corliss to Myitt's Cruiser, aiming carefully at the Blade Ship above them and opening fire with the manual controls.  "Hahah!  That dapsen won't be expecting this much company!"

---

"Corliss, I hope you and your pirate buddies brought some real firepower!" Myitt yells into the comm system.

---

"Your mates are here, too," he replies.  "Shal, Breekan, the boy.  Temrash, if we like him enough."

---

"Good, let's not send the whole lot of us to our graves!" Myitt snarls, sending off another round of Dracon fire.  "Zoshonel, fire on cannon two!"

While Gaz's ship was taking on the back, The Cursed Pride was taking on the front.

"Open fire!" Morgan yelled at his crew.

His crew scrambled to obey the order and soon fire was coming from the front as well.

"Helm! Be sure to keep out of reach of the guns," Morgan ordered. "Don't want to be hit ourselves."

*****

"How you doing, Gaz?" Morgan asked.

"Just fine," Gaz replied. Her fingers were flying over the navigation panel making sure they stayed out of reach of the gun's themselves.

All hell broke loose as Seran's ship was ambushed from all sides by so many ships. Temrash, Zoshonel, and Christine fired away at the Bladeship without delay or letting up.

"Let's see if this turtle breaks!" Christine yelled. Trying to drown out her worried thinking with her own voice.

((Sorry Chad, give my guys a bit more of a chase than just saying you've captured them  :D  ))

"I can't shake one of these fighters!" Gerard yells over the link, manipulating the controls just enough to supplement the autopilot.  He had nearly cleared the fleet of ships, it was surprising no one else had followed him yet.  "If they hang on my ass like this they're going to be very upset when the z-drive kicks in."

"Goddamn it, if z-space shifts again, so help me," Reven mutters, tapping at the unwieldy Skrit Na controls.

((Sorry, I was out of town and without Internet.))

Hunter takes Parker's hand and shakes it. <They even shake hands? What is this place?> Hunter asked for his real name. Normally he would divulge that type of info to a civilian, but this was no civilian, also Parker could sense an honesty to him. However before Parker could answer, Hunter throws his hand away and draws his pistol once more. In a flash, with Parker's free hand, he draws an Energy Sword. The blade appears with a "KKssshhhhhh!" But Hunter didn't aim at Parker. He had about-faced to the right and aimed at an Engineer!

<How the hell did an Engineer get here!?> Parker cuts his speakers and speaks to his A.I. "Thor, that IS an Engineer, right?"

<Yes sir, how it got here is beyond me. Although not much is known about them, we assumed they were only in our galaxy. It seems we were wrong.>

"Ya think?" Parker sees the Engineer disassemble and reassemble Hunter's fire arm, and notices that Hunter was more fascinated than on alert.

“Do you know who or what this is?” Hunter asked Parker.

Parker, still shocked, answers, "Yeah, they're called Engineers. You've seen why they're called that, and what they can do. It doesn't matter what it is, if it's technological, it can disassemble it, repair it, reassemble it, and even upgrade it. No one knows if they have a personality, or if they're even sentient, but they really come in handy to have around. They're completely unbiased and unaffected by 'good' or 'evil'. They fix what needs fixin'. Speaking of which,"

Parker kneels to talk to the Engineer face to... 'face', "Hey, do you think you could recharge my suit? The panel's square on my back," Parker points to the area directly between his scapulas and pivots to present his access panel to the Engineer. "There's no need to take everything off, I just need to recharge, and everything else'll come back."

As the Engineer approaches Parker, Parker talks to Hunter again, "See? These guys are geniuses. Oh, I'm 'Parker' by the way."
