"The Empire will know who you are just as much as it knows Ardiss, I'm afraid," says Myitt gently, sympathetic. "You can live with us, if you'd like, until the war ends. We're a bunch of lunatics with this crazy idea about fighting the Empire from within, trying to put an end to the whole terrible business." She smiles a little. "I live on a...a sort of military base, if you will, underground. Most of us are Yeerks, working in cooperation with our hosts, but there are a number of humans and Hork-Bajir who live with us, too. Free humans and Hork-Bajir. You would certainly be welcome, and no one would ever try to force another Yeerk on you. That's why we're in this line of work, in the first place. We've all seen what the Empire does to people, Yeerks and hosts alike." She pauses. "It's not too bad on the base, really. Food supply is usually steady, and we stay as healthy as we can. The medicine is quite good. We have DVDs. Blockbuster hates us."
Corliss looks over, watching them, curious.
Myitt eyes Mar skeptically. "Promised to protect her, hmm? Is that why your arm gauntlet is all lit up? I think I remember just exactly what that means."
