Mar smiles rather strangely and strokes Kara's back, letting her hold him. "Be on the lookout for anything strange coming our way. You never know with this bar, dear." Mar smirks as he notices Myitt looking at the two of them. I wonder if Myitt realizes what happened. Either way I don't intend to tell her. My double is altering Kara's physiology wonderfully. No Yeerk in existence will be able to penetrate her ear canal, and she'll never know the difference. .......I suppose he'll also have to alter events so that few people bother to attempt as well. It's only fair.

Mar smiles. "Don't worry, Kara. I'm taking care of matters for you. Even if by some freak chance a Yeerk can get close to your ear, they'll have difficulty taking over your body or...even living. It might be a suicide run for them, hahah. .....rest with me if you'd like. I am the only master you'll ever have, and your body is your own."

Gaz's hair was tied back, her tricorn hat had been set aside a while back. She took one of the swords off the wall, did some warm ups and looked as if she was dueling an invisible opponent.

Steadily Temrash's moves became more complicated, and advanced. He moved faster and faster, invisioning a random Andalite enemy. Jagill's thoughts strayed to Ossalin, as he had previously shown interest in the Andalite's katanas. Without realising, Temrash's invisible randome Andalite became Ossy. He imagined Ossy weidlding his katanas. His strategy changed at he adapted to the threat of three blades. In his mind, his blades were full size. But he had difficulty avoiding the steel. He would need something he could block with. He slowed down, and began to seriously ponder this. He began doing cooldowns as he thought.

Fletcher, who had started to grow bored at the helm, checked to make sure that the course was still steady and headed to the cargo hold.

He saw Gaz and Temrash fighting invisible enemies and decided to join in. He pulled another sword off the wall and faced Gaz.

Without the usual niceties shown at the start of a friendly match, Gaz and Fletcher simply commenced a very pirate-esque duel.

Ossanlin catches the blow on his jaw, unable to deflect her quick human-style punch in time.  Her speed was incredible!  His rigid blade-pose hands should've been quicker, but he remembers where Alic has spent a great deal of her time...and fistfights he heard were common at bars.  He feints a couple more jabs before smiling through his battle expression before using his muscular tail to hurl Alic's away, dancing back and edging around the clearing to the right again, his tail back to swaying powerfully back and forth.  He had hoped to surprise the female with hand-to-hand combat, not many tail-fighters knew it, but Aliciania was no ordinary tail-fighter.

<It appears you might indeed humble me Aliciania.  Apparently I'm..how do the humans say it...rusty?  Yes, that's it.>  He moves his arms and hands back to a defensive pose as his tail sweeps back and forth sinuously.  <I don't believe I've ever met a female as interesting and full of surprises as you.  You're really one of a kind.>  Ossanlin's smile ws genuine in his eyes as he prepare for the next salvo of tail-strikes.

Temrash finished his cooldown, and watched Fletcher and gaz with interest. He had never seen two Humans fighting, but he had heard they were a fragile species. As he observed them, they didn't seem too fragile.

Myitt raises an eyebrow as Mar and Kara move farther away into their own little corner.  "That's...odd," says Myitt faintly, although she's not quite sure why.

<Hey.  Hello?  Don't you remember all of that soul stuff?  And I don't mean the music.>

<What, do you think Mar actually went so far as to bargain for the human child's soul?> Myitt laughs.  <That's...why would he...it's...>

<It makes perfect sense.  He needs this sort of stuff to keep him going.>

<But it just seems wrong, somehow.  If it is true, how can he take advantage of someone in such a vulnerable position?>

<He's pretty much the devil, Myitt.  It's just what he does.>

<I can't see how he-->

"--you even listening to me?" Corliss snaps.  Myitt looks at him, quite suddenly.

"What?" she replies.

"I said, why don't you go over there and ask them?"

"I don't want to."

"Fine," says Corliss, crossing his arms.  "Then don't mope over 'ere about it."

Myitt bites her lip and thinks about it, then slides off the bar seat and half limps over to them.  Her arm was starting to itch, it was uncomfortable.

She smiles faintly down at Kara.  "How are you feeling?" she asks quietly, glancing at Mar.  "Any different?"

Kara watches Myitt's approach without moving. She has finally managed to get her shuddering under control, thanks to a combination of food, sleep and confusing occurrences that have little to do with Ardiss. For the first time, Kara feels as though she is perhaps truly free, in a twisted sort of way.

"I feel...safer," Kara says in her childish way, "Mar promised to protect me."

Obviously something else is on her mind, and Kara takes her time, choosing her words carefully.

"I can't stay in this bar for the rest of my life. I want to go home."

Kara hesitates again, contemplating the idea of home - a word that ceased to have true meaning long ago. When she speaks, her voice is thick with sadness.

"I can't go back to Earth. Can I?"

Mar smiles at Kara and strokes her hair, glancing at Myitt. "That's correct, precious. I have promised to protect this girl from any other horrible things that could happen to her. I thought it only fair considering she has no one else who doesn't have a cramped schedule or dangerous conditions to worry about, and she seems to need help."

Mar then glances at Kara and states,

"I could try to direct you to an alternate version of Earth, if you like. The things you love may be gone, but it should be much the same. Although, if you ask me, you seem to need a home to live in for a while. I have a castle on Alderon that's useful for this kind of thing."

Mar's not quite sure why he's mentioning this last part. I have her soul. What else do I need? Mmph...

"The Empire will know who you are just as much as it knows Ardiss, I'm afraid," says Myitt gently, sympathetic.  "You can live with us, if you'd like, until the war ends.  We're a bunch of lunatics with this crazy idea about fighting the Empire from within, trying to put an end to the whole terrible business."  She smiles a little.  "I live on a...a sort of military base, if you will, underground.  Most of us are Yeerks, working in cooperation with our hosts, but there are a number of humans and Hork-Bajir who live with us, too.  Free humans and Hork-Bajir.  You would certainly be welcome, and no one would ever try to force another Yeerk on you.  That's why we're in this line of work, in the first place.  We've all seen what the Empire does to people, Yeerks and hosts alike."  She pauses.  "It's not too bad on the base, really.  Food supply is usually steady, and we stay as healthy as we can.  The medicine is quite good.  We have DVDs.  Blockbuster hates us."

Corliss looks over, watching them, curious.

Myitt eyes Mar skeptically.  "Promised to protect her, hmm?  Is that why your arm gauntlet is all lit up?  I think I remember just exactly what that means."

Gaz and Fletcher continued to step around the cargo hold as they swung their swords at each other. It was clear they weren't aiming to kill each other, but they weren't holding back either.

The lights on Mar's gauntlet are slowly dying down, and Mar glances at Myitt, thinking.

"......mmph. The resistance isn't a bad place for her to stay, but it's awfully dangerous. She can go if she wants, I suppose. But I insist that I be allowed to visit her there. I promised to protect Kara and I do not, ever, break promises. It's in the Rules. And as for what the significance of the Atourega glowing is...none, to Kara. Primarily it glows in such a way when I am either perusing my efforts or killing someone. Although, it is not active for death and I'm not allowed to use that function of my own will."

"You've done it again, haven't you?" Myitt asks flatly.  "Yes, yes I think you have.  You're starting a collection."  Her eyes flicker to Kara, pityingly, then she shakes her head.  "Don't worry, it's really not that dangerous at the base.  There is the risk of being discovered by our enemies, but we are exceedingly good at both keeping our location safely hidden, and providing escape routes.  There hasn't been a need, that hasn't happened in a very long time."

"Why pity Kara?" states Mar with an almost snarky smirk. "You don't believe in what I've asked for, and I have only asked for it because that is what I require to keep myself powerful. The fact is..." *Mar glances off, as if he's not sure if he should say this or not. "...if I didn't need it so badly, I would have done the job for free. The girl needs someone to watch over her on high. She's had a horrible run of painful luck, at no fault of her own. If ever I could argue a case for tampering with a mortal's fate, it is this one."

Mar shrugs, looking amused. "I don't know if I'll feel like that when I return, but the promise is made and the board is set. I'm obligated either way, and I made sure of that."

"I didn't believe in it until I died and saw myself floating in space-time as a ball of energy, whether you call it a soul or something else I was resurrected," Myitt says with an incredulous laugh.  "That kind of won me over.  And I pity her because I know what it's like, when it's all over.  I...some part of me...I just remember...pain.  Not physical pain, but...it was still...painful."  She looks down, as if even admitting this is difficult.
