Let his eyes drift to Ossanlin's and as they locked he felt a bit better. As more and more time passed he seemed to be returning to his older self. Perhaps the shift would never be complete, but it had begun nonetheless. He had let the hand rest on his shoulder, fine with contact for now. But as he looked the other andalite in the eyes the hand grew to a sort of comfort. He smiled gently with his mouth-less grin and his stalk eyes wavered from Myitt and Breeken, a sign both that he was trying to give Ossanlin his full attention and that he was easing up slightly.

<Yeh well, I'll be fine.> He said this without being able to fully hide the pain that came with it.

The event which had led up to his wife's death had been the most traumatizing event in his life and it had left a large permanent scar. He sighed once more but seemed to push it away once more. He didn't want to remember any of that so he tried speaking again, still looking at Ossanlin's eyes.

<No family or mates?> He asked politely, trying to guage his reaction.

*continues his eye-smile, holding Applix's gaze.*  <No, not really.  I went to the academy straight out of primary school, I was only seventeen when I graduated and they gave me my first command shortly thereafter.  I'm afraid I never had a chance to form a bond with any other andalites.  Sure I had some friends in the academy, but when the Electorate separates you, there's really not much you can do.  And then there are my crewmates...though I do like to count them among my friends, they are also subbordinates and the integrity of the entire ship relies upon me maintaining some distance.>

*****s his head to the side a little, still meeting the other andalite's gaze.*  <I guess I've never really thought about it.  Perhaps it would be nice to have a mate...  I'm afraid you've sparked a thought in me, Applix.>  *His eyes lose focus as he seems lost in thought for a moment.*  <It would be nice.>  *he smiles with his eyes again and shrugs.*  <Perhaps I simply haven't found the correct being for such a relationship.  Perhaps I should more-actively seek such a creature.>  *takes a quick sip from his phial, the liquified nutrients working their way through his body.  He refrains from asking about how such a relationship must feel since Applix has such horrible memories attached to the loss of his own mate, and simply maintains his eye-contact with the other andalite, still smiling a bit.*

Applix felt the Mirfan flowing into his blood stream, hearts pumping. It had been a long time ago that he had lost his wife and he hated thinking about it but he needed to get over it. He stared onward to Ossanlin as he spoke, suddenly becoming nervous as the andalite continued on about not having a mate.

<Perhaps you should.> He said rather helpfully, oblivious to Ossanlin's feelings and thoughts other than what was said.

The average-sized andalite with mostly feminine features owed his looks to the morphing powers that had been given to him long ago. At one point he had actually been hunted by his own kind and he knew that if they still knew he lived they'd be after him still. Slowly Applix looked into his friend's eyes, wondering if that would be the case now if Ossanlin found out. It wasn't exactly broadcast to every andalite born, but he was sure some Dome captains had to know. His tail flickered behind him idly as his thoughts wandered, hands wiggling about at the edge of the counter.

<They let you stay here? Haven't you things to do?>

*shrugs with his shoulders a bit, sensing some apprehension building again within his friend.  He breaks the eye contact for a moment and looks at the glasses stacked behind the bar.*  <Frankly my first-officer is probably wondering why I haven't returned his transponder transmission.  Fact is I was so surprised when I found this place still standing that I haven't felt the need to return to the ship.  But yes, eventually I will have to return, I am the captain after all.>  *He chuckles ruefully*  <I guess I feel they owe me a little leave...it's been so monotonous and non-stop over the past several months.>

*he reaches over the counter and grabs an empty cup, the BT looking at him, possibly a bit annoyed.  He spins the glass slowly, looking through its crystalline structures as if to find some sort of truth, lost in thought again.  He chuckles to himself and takes in a deep breath, setting the glass on the counter again.  His stalk-eyes look around the bar again, Myitt still bantering with the BT, Shal still looking like pain incarnate in her easy-chair, and Breek maintaining an uncertain distance.  He looks up at Applix, smiling a bit again with his eyes, sensing that his friend is still holding something back.  He shrugged inwardly, knowing that if Applix had anything to tell him, he would do so at his own pace.* <I've always done everything for the Electorate you know...for the homeworld.  Maybe it's time I started doing a few things for me, that's all I'm saying.>

Myitt fills out a check, signs with a fake name tied to a bank account held by a non-existant accountant from Chicago.  She hands it to the bartender.  "Put the phone down, alright?  And hey, do you have a couple of portable Kandrona wave/particle generators?"

The bartender sets the phone down, takes the check and looks at it, peering at Myitt.  He places the check into the black hole that is the drawer of the old derelict cash register.  It rings up nicely but shows no price.  He steps behind some of the glasses and digs around in a couple of drawers, retrieving two silver, flat metal cylinders with rounded edges.  He hands them to Myitt and scribbles on the notepad.

"What about your tab?" it reads.

Myitt takes the generators and pockets one, smirking.  She pushes the loose change and the weird coins and the black sphere to the edge of the table, depositing them in her jacket.  "Maybe someday, buddy.  How about a tub of water?  Like, 85 degrees Fahrenheit?"

The bartender wordlessly sets about sticking a mercury thermometer in a pan of water and sets it on the stove.  Myitt rolls the little generator between her hands.

(Ohgod, it's me again. Tara convinced me to come back for a second. XD Except because I'm crazy and want to try an experiment, I'm switching characters. X3 )

A strange-looking young apparently human man wearing an even stranger frilly outfit wanders into the bar idly and sits down next to Myitt. He doesn't look threatening exactly, or at least not by the standards of the people of the bar. But there is a disturbing air about him, you'd suppose. He smiles pleasantly and states,

"I will pay the young lady's tab. This place abruptly caught my attention by any case."

Myitt glances at the strange frilly man, eyebrows raised.  "O...kay, and who the hell are you supposed to be?  What do I owe you?"  She sets the generator down and pulls out a ziploc bag of silvery grey dust, like metal shavings mixed with charcoal and volcanic dirt.  She shakes it around and the colors swirl together.  Unconcerned, she sets it down next to the generator.

<Do we know this guy?>

<No.  At least...I don't think so?>

The strange man smiles again.

"Yes, we know one another. But I don't think you remember me. And you don't owe me the slightest thing, dear. I heard something of interest here and it's produced in me a desire to be helpful to you."

He glances at the bartender and states,

"How much is the tab and what do you want to be paid in?"

For a guy Myitt doesn't know wearing a ridiculously overdone outfit, he seems fairly confident.

The bartender pours the lukewarm water into a 1x1 foot tupperware container and sets it on the bar counter.  Myitt grins at him.  "Thanks.  Now." She looks back at the stranger.  "I definitely don't remember you.  And I don't need you to pay my tab, but thanks for being interested.  What do you really want?  I'm kind of busy here."  She pours the packet of minerals into the water and swishes it around, holding the tupperware container by the sides.  The water turns slushy and greyish, and it smells strongly like mulch.

The bartender blinks at the frilly man and scribbles on a fresh page.  He hands the page to the stranger.

The man glances at the number written in scribbles and blinks in confusion at Myitt. "You certainly must spend a lot of time here."

He then looks at the bartender and states, "I can have this delivered to you...eventually. Wait for it in a few days, unless you need it right now."

He then glances at Myitt and states, "My name is Mar. And I have no business here except out of interest in the conversations taking place here and in benefiting you. Why are you so suspicious of strangers? The business you are in I suppose demands it, but it makes it difficult for me to speak to you freely."

"Look buddy, Mar, I have good reason to be suspicious of people who waltz in here offering to pay a tab I've rung up here for god knows how long.  Suck it up.  And I see no reason why you should want to help me, unless you want something from me."  She turns the bottom of the black cylinder until it clicks, and sets it into the warm greyish water.  The bar counter thrums faintly, and the place instantly feels like lightning.  "Is there anything else, or can I eat now?"

<I dunno, man, I don't really trust this guy.  Maybe you should go someplace else to feed.>

<Screw that, you can shoot him, can't you?  I'm not putting my schedule on hold for Napoleon over here.>

<My bloody arm is sliced to all hell, and my face hurts!  Come on...>

<Stop whining.>

Mar chuckles, playing with his hand as he stares at Myitt. I have missed her...I have little idea of what could have happened to her, though. She will be no help determining that as she obviously doesn't remember meeting me. I could ask about, but perhaps this business is fruitless. I should not be here, in truth. But I am interested.

"No, no. You can go ahead and feed. I merely wanted to find out what happened. There was clearly a fight in this place, and it hurt you. I know you do not trust me. But I am concerned, regardless of whether you remember me or not."

Myitt narrows her eyes at the strange person called Mar.  "There was a fight.  People get hurt in fights.  Now if you'd kindly explain yourself to my human friend, I'd be grateful.  Thanks."  She turns her head to the side and leans over the tupperware tub, close to the warm water.  Her slithering, grey Yeerk body slowly extrudes itself out of Tara's ear and worms into the miniature pool, a squirming mess of flesh.  It takes a few minutes but the last of her Yeerk flesh splashes into the pool and rejoins with the already shifting and contracting sluglike shape.  Myitt swims squidlike in the small space just twice the size of her body, and bumps into the plastic wall, sliding along the edge.  The little generator inside the pool keeps on humming.

Tara rubs her ear and sits up, readjusting her arm.  She firstly turns to her nearby acquaintances and wriggles her cutoff gloved left hand in greeting.  "'Lo guys, it's been a while."  She glances at Mar.  "So you were saying?"

Mar glances at Tara with a look of mere toleration. The difference in his expression is obvious. He looks almost bored.

"Essentially, I came here due to the fight inside the bar. There are strange people here that interest me. They....have been in contact with some party that caught my attention. However, Myitt's safety seems more important now. You don't look well at all."

"Yeah?" she replies.  "How'd you know there was a fight going on?  And why do you care about me, or Myitt, or any of the other b*stards in here?"  She grins charmingly at her closest companions.  "Anyway, yeah, got sliced up a bit.  But I'll be alright."  She squints at Mar.  "You know...something about you...is a bit familiar, but I can't quite place it.  And she'd never admit that."  She nods down at Myitt.
