Voluntary Controllers
« on: July 18, 2015, 05:23:56 PM »
What happened to those voluntary controllers who survived the war?

What happened to Yeerk Peace Movement Controllers?  Were they given the option of retaining their Yeerks?

I never liked how, for the most part, voluntary controllers were thought of as traitorous and bad by default. We don't know why many are voluntary, so who are we to judge? Maybe their lives really was crappy enough that being a host made it better. Maybe some have stockholm syndrome. There could be many reasons to justify not constantly fighting and screaming. Especially if it's been years since the person was first infested. When is it ok to just give up fighting and try to get what little freedom you may be allowed in exchange for not resisting?

Chapman did have a good reason for being voluntary: To protect his daughter.

The problem is no matter their intentions, voluntaries are used to obtain involuntaries.

I've always thought after the war, that it'd be fine to set up Yeerks who want to keep their bodies with people that would like a constant mind companion, but during the conflict, they are contributing to others enslavement
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

Yes, but there's nothing they can do about it. or they've been convinced of that. What good are they doing, screaming from a cage every three days. Or if they actually can manage the occassional spazzing out like Chapman can? If they do too much, they'll just end up dead like the people in book 8. Not everyone can bravely say "Give me liberty, or give me death".

Yeah, but the fact they aren't actively resisting, even in some smal, ultimately meaningless way, is why they are generally disliked.

All evil needs to thrive is for good to do nothing or however it goes. Standing by idle while by stuff is happening, even if you're not doing it yourself, is cause for derision.

The Yeerks could prevent good from doing anything!

I think I said before, not everyone can bravely say "Give me liberty, or give me death!", and I don't judge them for that. Now if they were given an opportunity on a silver platter to change their current situation, and they didn't take it, I'd call that cowardice. or Stockholm Syndrome.
