Chee, Portable Kandrona Generators

Why don't the Animorphs ask the Chee to steal some portable Kandrona generators to keep alive those Yeerks who want to defect from Visser Three?  This would enable the Animorphs to keep alive dissident Yeerks such as Aftran (The Departure, The Sickness), or that scientist Controller who helped the Animorphs escape from the meat packing plant at the end of "The Experiment".  That Controller was so scared of Visser Three that he would rather face death by Kondrona starvation.  He would make a logical ally of the Animorphs if they could keep him alive.

They seem to be able to make their own kandrona, so I'm not sure why they didn't make their own Yeerk pool for defectors and prisoners. There is a lot of wasted opportunity within the series, unfortunately. Heck, if there as going to be a YPM I half expected the chee to be the ones to start it.
