If the Animorphs were an anime...
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:16:35 PM »
I recently read through the "If the Animorphs were created by Disney" thread and figured I'd create one of my own. What do YOU guys think Animorphs would be like if it were written in an anime medium? Here's my two cents: the battles would be a lot more violent and bloody than they were in the books, the Animorphs would be even more psychologically damaged than the tortured indivduals they already were, Visser Three would have red, glowing eyes, Visser One would have BIG BOOBS, all the girls would have Tsundere personalities, Cassie would be the airhead type variety, Rachel would be the Violently Protective Girlfriend type trope seen often in anime, and of course, how can I possibly forget: The Animorphs could NEVER morph with their clothes on, even their skintight ones, and they'd always have to expose themselves on every mission (non-censored, of course, except here in America), leading to some slow and awkward romances (perhaps even teen sex! ::)) as well as the Naked People Are Funny moments seen in certain animes like DBZ, and they would also give morphing some stupid name, like "transforming."

Well, that's my opinion. Your thoughts?

Hmm. In the type of anime I love (I.E. Shojo, magical or superheroic shonen):

-Yes, Visser One's Hot Motherness would get downright preposterous. And her boobs would be bigger.  >:D But she'd also become a far more sympathetic character than she already was, an antiheroine if you will.

-Visser Three would never suffer Villain Decay and his thought speech would sound like Estrogen Brigade Bait. He would seem far more powerful than he theoretically should be and he would wipe the floor with the Animorphs a couple times. If Jake is main character, their relationship is closer and very strange.

- Jake would become illogically stoic and competant, though we as viewers would see his true thoughts. Rachel's tsundere nature would become worse as noted and her relationship with Tobias would be emphasized. Cassie would have even less personality. They'd spend a lot more time in school and they'd have more problems there. And they'd begin at a later age.

-Yeerk politics would become even more layered and emotionally charged. The Council of Thirteen wouldn't be as secretive, and they'd have a very odd power dynamic going on. We'd actually meet the Yeerk Emperor, and he'd turn out to be the creepiest person on the "show."

-The Animorphs would be more powerful and do too much damage to the Yeerks to make sense, or at least Visser Three himself. Many anime of the type I love are character development shows that empower teenagers.

-The Ellimist would make even less sense and would speak in psuedo-philosophical bull. This really airy, holy music would play whenever he got involved (Played Skyward Sword? ) and the audience would get the sense the Animorphs were involved in something of great import.

Excellent points. And like I said, we'd have more nudity and violence, especially with morphing and battles...

They'd be in a boarding school. A catholic boarding school. You can see where this is leading, right?

Haha, anime nut here!

From what I could think of...

-Rachel would definitely have a Tsundere personality
-Cassie would get into trouble and have to be rescued every episode
-There would be at least one scene dedicated to Ax eating something he shouldn't every episode
-Actually...imagine Ax eating anime style...
-Ax would get glomped repeatedly in public by random girls while in human morph
-Actually...he would probably get glomped in Andalite form too
-Every character would have a crush on Cassie at least once
-A Rachel/Tobias/Ax love triangle would be STRONGLY implied
-Until the episode where Ax/Tobias finds out they are related, then there would be a long arc of unexplained awkwardness between Tobias/Ax
          -Oh wait...this is anime...no there wouldn't

-I could definitely see Tobias turning on Estrid yandere-style, <Because...um...you know...he's my best friend...we look out for each other like that...and stuff...>

I'll think of more later.  I would LOVE animorphs to be turned into an anime.

V1 would definitely have the hot mom thing going on, and she'd look about three years older than Marco. Ax would eat Goku style. The morphing process would be a lot more flamboyant, I think. There would be some tentacle rape implications, if not some straight up on screen tentacle rape by V3. I'm sure Rachel would be seen as more sympathetic. Cassie might be a moe, and would definitely have to be rescued a lot.

Haha, I'm also sure Ax's naivete would be played up massively by putting him in potentially very provocative situations with willing girls and him going "How strange, I thought humans were supposed to be wearing clothes.   Can I eat cinnamon buns now?  Bunzah?"

XD Oh, and there'd inexplicably be at least one Big-Lipped Aligator Moment hot springs episode. And Ax would get picked on for laughs the entire time. ;)

The scenes where Visser Three eats someone would be as disturbing as the books but drawn in a semi-sensual way ala Cell from Dragon Ball Z (which was really creepy, BTW).

Oh God, I got this terrible mental image of Visser 3 singing "Horror of Our Love" (by Ludo) to Elfangor.

*Runs to the bathroom and runs bleach over my brain*

Though if it was an anime they would have definitely had a...weirder....hero/nemesis relationship.   Complete with a *now my life has no meaning now that you're gone* speech from Visser Three after he eats Elfangor.
