The not-so-horrifying implications of MM2 (time travel).

So, I was watching this video the other day:

And I got to thinking about the last page of <Megamorphs> #2: In The Time of Dinosaurs, where this exchange between Cassie and Jake happens:

Quote
"Maybe it was all just a dream," I said.
"No. Not a dream," Jake said. "But it all happened a long time ago."
"Were we always there? I mean, were we meant to be there? To do what we did? Was everything supposed to happen a different way? Should this planet be ruled by the Mercora today? Or the Nesk? Should there still be dinosaurs stomping around? Did we make it all right or mess it all up?"
Jake didn't have an answer, so I slipped my arm through his. We looked up at the sky for a while.

This is starting to hurt my brain in a paradoxical way, because if Marco hadn't turned on the TV to watch that news story about the submarine, it would have exploded, probably with all of those people still in it. The Animorphs wouldn't have been there to be sent back to the Cretaceous period, and they wouldn't have interfered with what the Mercora and Nesk were doing. The Nesk and Mercora would have stayed at a peaceful stalemate, with the Mercora continuing to harvest broccoli and carrots (and other stuff). The Nesk wouldn't have had any reason to shoot a laser at the comet to divert it towards Earth, and the comet would have safely passed within a few thousand miles of the planet.

All of a sudden, the dinosaurs, Mercora, and Nesk live much longer than they would have, and how would that affect the late 20th Century? Hmm? I both love and hate talking about time travel, for this very reason. Would anyone like to discuss this with me?

I always thought the concept of the Animorphs being the ones to cause the extinction of the dinosaurs (and all that followed) to be really contrived, like it just came out of nowhere. It also makes us extremely dependent on them doing that, because like you said if they didn't we wouldn't exist, and I don't like being dependent on anyone. At least not like that.
