Feedback to ease my inner pain...please?
« on: October 18, 2010, 12:54:58 AM »
Sorry, been a crazy two weeks and I must apology for this topic AND for not being around. So sorry!

In any case, if people are sick and tired of hearing bout my fic, I'll delete this topic.  :P I know I am but I just can't tear my eyes away from writing it! HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! -eye twitches from insanity-

Some time ago, I was writing an old Animorphs fic called the Alteration but stopped because of work and then discontinued because this year, I decided to make a new and improved version of it, entitled as Alteramorphs #0: The Alteration, with most of everything changed. I did send pms to previous readers about the bad and good news and awaited to see what feedback I get on this new fic.

...it's been a couple of weeks and while I'm very happy to see reviews (to reviewers, I AM! PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY!), I still feel like this fic is just being ignored...or that not everyone likes the improved version...or because readers are sick and tired of reading Animorphs books or fics with the summary saying, "Someone has seen the Animorphs". I mean, my old one had 87 reviews and over 5000 hits before.... And for my new one, I was kinda hoping to see maybe 20 for the first 6 chps... At least hoping to see the new version receive more attention than the old one...

I don't know. Maybe it's just me paranoid or impatient. D: But I'm not asking for reviews or else that is just selfish of me, I just want to know why it seems my new one isn't getting much attention. Other than I probably lost most of my previous readers when I stopped writing my old one and that as busy as I am, everyone is busy with other stuff, I'm not sure what other reasons are (if the fic is not at all great or something) and I want to know to improve my fic so that maybe more will notice it.

Pretty please? -shows you all puppy-dog eyes-

And thank you for listening to the wimpy side of me. Again sorry. TT_TT

You need feedback and a hug, but you're also a little impatient, paranoid and stressed ;)
I'm sorry, I wanted to read it, so did I for many other fanfictions, but as I don't have enough time and they're in English and I'm lazy, I didn't. Not even one!
But my fanfiction isn't read either, so...  ::)
Remember you don't write only for people, but also for yourself. If you enjoy writing, if it's a pleasure for you to say stories, continue, and don't care about people ^^ Even if only 3 or 4 persons read my fanfiction, I still wanna write, and I will when I have enough time for that, because I have stories in my head and it drives me insane to keep them there >_<
So go on, Vickie ^^ Maybe I'll read your fanfiction during my next holidays ...who are... for Xmas & New Year, just before the half term exams... well, so maybe the next next holidays, I don't know when they are... maybe just before the term exams ^^' Anyway, make me remember about your fanfiction in May 2011 and I'll read it! lol

Honestly, 2-4 reviews per chapter is kind of how the Animorphs fandom rolls these days, unless you somehow luck out and hit the magical well of What Readers Want, which I have no advice for (I've only hit it once). There just aren't as many fans these days that are active on ff than there are in other fandoms. So it goes. Maybe the rerelease will change all that.

Also, it's October. For American readers, that means midterms. A lot of us are incredibly busy and if we're reading fic at all, it's mostly just from authors we know or continuations of stories we're familiar with, or one-shots, because we don't have the time to invest in a new story. Personally, I've barely had time to write my own work, much less read many others' this month.

The other thing is that reviews repay reviews. Generally, people will be much more likely to review your stuff if you give good reviews of their own material. For example, I may skim over someone who hasn't responded to me or I might not, but if they've left a thoughtful review, I'll really want to check out their own writing and send them a kind word. Reviewing the works of others is a symbol of good faith, that you're not just in the community to improve your own writing/receive validation, but also to help others write better/validate them. People respond more positively to that than they do to just being asked to read a fic.

A lot of people also read but don't review; you can see how many people are doing that with your story on the ff.net traffic stats page. And I think a lot of people are avoiding stories with original characters these days - not everyone, obviously, but I know that I personally tend to skip those because it just doesn't interest me as much.

Yeah, I guess I'm all of those. I think I need to work on my anxiety a bit more.

Nah, it's alright. I know people are as busy as I am as I stated above. And sorry if they're english. Maybe I should make a French-translated fic also. :)

And I have one thing to say...Muuussst.reee ead.yoooour.fiiiiic c! I intend to reeeeead it! -eye twitches-

I guess so. I do enjoy writing a lot and writing this fic has really gotten my wheels going because of how the contents are unfolding but...I don't know. I guess I group my fics and my art together and I like hearing feedback on both topics. X: Sheez! This probably is why I'm like this. But yeah, I do wanna write with or without feedback and when I have enough time for them. For now, I won't be writing till mid-terms finished. @__@

And like I said, take your time. I'd rather ask you to relax after your exams than go read my fic. In any case, feel free to read it anytime. Course, that means you'll only read your dedication chp next year...impressive.. You're very patient, Dameg ;)

Thanks again!

Yeah, that's true. I actually notice the Animorphs section in FFN is almost a ghost section compared to things in RAF. Then again, I like RAF a lot. ;D But yeah, that time on my old one, there were more people still interested in the books and fanfics. But now....meh. Guess the population will only go up again once the rereleases are up....course, the one thing I fear is getting reviews saying, "CHANGE IT! IT'S NOTHING LIKE THE NEW BOOKS!" After all, we're not 100% sure it's like the old books...or improved...or something.

And yeah. I guess every American school would have that. I'm in Digipen, Singapore and unlike Singapore's schools/polys which has assignments instead of terms, it's midterms right now for two weeks which is why I've been busy preparing for it and stopped writing after my fifth chp. So I understand.

I guess it's "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours"....wait that's terrible. Please ignore that! :( But yeah, I understand. Also, I like to review other people's work but actually never expect in return of anything. Normally, when I read a good fic, I want to review it and tell the writer he/she did a really good job. Nothing more or less out of that.

Which reminds me...I must review yours! -goes to FFN-

And yeah, that is true too. A lot of times, I've noticed when one chp is uploaded, there's only hits but no reviews...and that kinda makes me wonder if people really don't like what I create, especially OCs (paaain). But yeah, that's just people's opinion so half may like something with OCs or half don't. I actually don't mind OCs...just don't put me together with really bad Mary Sues or else I'll send someone to slaughter them.

Still, whether or not people don't like OCs, I actually don't mind if they have an opinion about OCs. Like if they don't like how they're developed or their features/backstories. Like I said, I really don't like Mary Sues and I don't like creating them. I try to make characters as both unique and ordinary but not to the point that people and me will scream, "AAAAAAH!" from the glitter. And if people believe I might be going too close to that, then based on their feedback, I'll rework on my characters to improve them.

Come to think of it, I may need some rework on one OC for future chps. I have an internal issue that I might make her close to Mary Sue because of how the plot unfolds. =_= Sigh. I really don't want that.

Anyway, thanks for the points. And in any case, I won't be continue writing this two weeks but I got some spare time on fri and weekends so I plan to continue my Animorphs fanart and finish up the one in progress instead. Who knows, I might get a few more reviews if I leave my fic alone. And hey, after I finish my art piece and my midterms, the art will be my advertisement for my fic. :D -whistles as she walks away-

I can try to translate my fanfiction... with Babel Fish + my correction after to do it more quickly, maybe it wouldn't take too long... I'll see if I can do that later.
Anyway, it's about an original character, so maybe it's why nobody read it. But I prefer to write about original characters, because for me, the characters made by the authors are theirs. If I use their characters, they're secondary characters or it's for a joke, or to complete their story, staying really close to what they usually are. But I understand that many people read only about their favorite characters...
PS: I usually feedback and say what is OK and what should be corrected when I read a fanfiction. I'm even a beta-reader on Fanfiction.net, actually ^^' but only 1 or 2 people asked me... Anyway, don't worry, as soon as I read it, you'll have a comment.
But I don't comment all the fanarts. On DA, I rarely post a comment, I comment more on RAF. Don't really know why ^^' Maybe because you're RAFians and... you're like my family 2nd 3rd family ^^

:edit: Just tried Babel Fish... It's horrible ^^' But it can help you...
