Haxorus (a Pokémon) looks like a Hork-Bajir
« on: August 24, 2011, 12:53:49 AM »
Look here:
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:612Haxorus.png

They both have the same kind of beak-like mouth, and they're both brown and reptillian. (They're also both spiky, either on the arms/legs/tail/head, or out of the mouth.) See here for the official look of an actual Hork-Bajir: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Animorphs_Aliens_po ster.jpg

And speaking of Hork-Bajir and Pokémon...

Your thoughts?

When the bleep did they come out with that poster?
Never seen a Leeran before...

The thing kinda looks like a hork-bajir, but, I don't know. You can argue caterpea-the caterpillar one- looks like a tiny taxxon

There's only so many body plans for aliens and monsters out there
pocket or otherwise
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

I believe that poster was included with the 2000 calendar, as it says on the image description page. You can see it bigger at HiracDelest.com. As for Leerans, Monster-Man-08 (on deviantART) has illustrated practically every Animorphs alien there is. Check him out.

In my opinion, Caterpie looks less like a Taxxon than Haxorus looks like a Hork-Bajir.

I'll give you that it's green and bipedal, but the only blades it has are mandibles. It does have kind of a long neck. I guess it shares a few similarities, but I doubt an animorphs fan came up with that design so they could have a Hork-Bajir looking pokemon.

The main thing I'm noticing here is the similar beak-like mouth. The color and reptillian-ness are secondary observations. I also never suggested that an Animorphs fan designed Haxorus. If anyone, it was Ken Sugimori (the artist) who designed Haxorus' final look, but I read that multiple staff at Game Freak submitted ideas for Pokémon.

And Gilda/Saph, what the heck is up with your spelling? Are you trying to feign an accent? It's just weird. And irrelevant.

*Stretches until her back cracks and lets out a sigh* Apologies- I'm actually a particularly random sort of person- If I wanna' type an entire post in German-like accent, I'm afraid I'll actually do it, irrelivancy percieved or not. It's just.. Kinda' what I do. However, my aim isn't to irritate, to be certian.

Back to the topic at hand, I didn't know multiple people from Game Freak each gave in their 2 cents about Pokemon.. Do they chip in for JUST design, or does it branch also to moves, types, abilities, TM and HM learn-ability, regions where they can be found, spesific item use, ect?

I don't remember what, exactly, I read, nor where I read it, but as far as I understand it, they just submit sketches of ideas for what the Pokémon could look like, as well as their type, weight, height, ect..., and then Ken Sugimori (or other bigwigs) approve designs and Ken draws the official image. Limitless details about each Pokémon are worked out during that.

And don't feel too bad about the accent thing. I like to talk in alternate voices in real life sometimes, so I know where you're coming from.

Yeah, that's stretching it. A lot. The only blades are on its face.

It's not the blades I'm focusing on! The common feature that initially caught my attention was the similar beak-like mouth and the color. That, combined with the reptilian and spike/blade features they share, caused me to see the similarities. (But it was the beak-mouth that started my train of thought!)

haxorus is based on a dinosaur. seems like a bit of a stretch to match it up with a hork-bajir.

Sorry, even though they do have a few features in common, they're still too vague to justify your claim.

There are just too many dissimilarities.

But yes, to validate your theory, they do have some similarities. It's just that there are more differences than "alikes".
