“Commander Davidson,” a voice came.
“Yes?” I answered plaintively.
“We have closed in on the Yeerk hide out. Should I radio the Andalite Admiral?”
I turned to face the man talking. It was CO Officer Truc.
“Yes, do it quickly. We don’t want them picking up our signals or realizing from which direction we’re coming from.”
Officer Truc nodded and went over to the control panel display. Within a few moments the message had been relayed. Soon the combined Andalite and human raider fleets would converge on the lone Yeerk hideout and blow it to smithereens.
The Yeerk defeat on Earth had only been fourteen months ago. Since then, the Andalites had commissioned several of their modified cruisers, as well as several confiscated Yeerk ships, to the United Nations to help them flush out runaway Yeerk cells.
We had learned quickly the reason for Andalite arrogance concerning helping us, and more specifically, how the Yeerk Empire had grown so fast unrestricted.
When the Yeerks first escaped their homeworld some decades ago, the Andalites had just emerged from a devastating localized civil war that resulted from poor and corrupt government. Directly as a result of this, the Andalite people took more control of the government into their hands.
Things quickly went from bad to worse; as a renewed conflict between a neighboring trading federation smoldered and grew into all out war. Unfortunately, the war took the Andalites fleets away from the direction of Earth and delayed Andalite help to us.
When the Andalites finally were able to divert resources away from the war it was only with small fleets and escort forces. With the government distrust of the public, and the agitating war at hand, they refused to acknowledge the growing threat of the newly declared Yeerk Empire. In fact, the Yeerk expansion was largely kept a secret from the Andalite public, and the blockade around the Yeerk homeworld was thought to be a myth.
The Yeerks were also able to make allies with the Anati, a small humanoid species thriving in the darkness of a key part of space: a space cross roads of sorts between Earth and the Andalites. The Anati were successful in holding the weakened Andalite fleets at bay while the Yeerks expanded and quietly took a foothold on Earth.
Things changed, when, with their war over, the Andalites turned their focus to Earth. Pressured by an ever growing Andalite presence in their system, the Anati considered nullifying their alliance with the Yeerks. The Yeerks knew though, that if the Anati system joined the Andalites, the Andalites would have a clear path to Earth and be able to strengthen the blockade around their homeworld.
The high ranking Yeerk, Visser One, was sent to persuade the Anati to remain faithful to the Yeerk Empire having been part of the delegation force that originally forged the alliance with the Anati. She failed in her duties however, allowing the Anati to switch allegiances, resulting in a devastating surprise counterattack by a combined Anati-Andalite force. Within weeks, Anati infiltrations had swept the Yeerk Empire and were crippling supply lines, trade routes, and communications. However, the dirty work was left to the Andalites, and we know how the story goes from there…
