Faith is a vice, not a virtue, IMO.
i and the rest of the world's organized religions disagree. being faithful to an idea (even a non spiritual one) is classifed as a virtue.
also, Faith is really just the Christian wording for Loyalty and how is not cheating on your spouse or not stabbing some one in the back a vice and not a virtue?
you stated Ax's virtue as "faith" because he never lost 'faith' in Jake.
that is correct. in the end, he was willing to betray his race to side with him.
But. . .that's not really faith, because he had good reason to trust Jake based off experience with Jake as a leader and trusted friend. Faith implies that you believe without proof or evidence. I.E religious faith.
and yet, he was still willing to turn his back on his race to help a "trusted friend". think of a man crashed in a foreign country, makes some friends, fights some enemies, always think that rescue might be come to save him.
as it turns out, his country is planning on setting off nukes and completely obliterate the country that he has been fighting in. he now as a choice.
Ax is the same but except that this is more major. he betrayed his race to side with the animorphs and completely trusted in Jake to see it through.
The same goes for a scientist's 'faith' in Grand Unified Theory (whatever that is.).
alright, let give another example of Faith:
a woman is an atheist and believes, however infinitesimally unlikely, that the universe and the world are the result of a vast fortuitous accident. she is unrelenting in this outlook and believes this with much conviction as the staunchest member of any spiritual faith.
