Portable Kandronas
« on: April 13, 2009, 03:39:33 PM »
If the Andalites never meant for the yeerks to leave thier homeworld, why did they make portable kandronas for them? the entire yeerk homeworld is covered in it.

Seerow did want the Yeerks to leave their homeworld, and explore the stars. He just didn't take any precautions against possible betrayal.

Yes, he did make Portable Kandronas, alloran says so in the hork-bajir chronicles:

<You fool,> Alloran said again. <You coddled them. You trained them. You showed them
the universe. You showed them all the things they could not have, living here on this planet
of theirs. You even built them portable Kandronas and thus freed them.>

I dont think they were supposed to go off the planet, seerow believed that the yeerks were symbiotes with gedds.

Yeah, supposedly their source of Kandrona was available all over the planet. Why else would the Andalites have invented a portable-Kandrona if not to give them circumstances to break out of their world?!
It was all a genuine effort on the decent Andalite to 'help' the Yeerks. In his naivety he thought the Yeerks needed to go to the stars... It justifies the Law of Seerow's Kindness.

I disagree, I don't think it's inconsistant at all. The Andalites as a general population did not think that the Yeerks should leave their homeworld. They even had a military base on the Yeerk homeworld (overrun at the beginning of HBC), presumably in case something did go wrong with their diplomatic procedures. It could be inferred that the Andalites (who we know to be a bit self-righteous and a smidge arrogant) were ready to use their military force to control the Yeerks should diplomacy fail them.

Seerow, who is an Andalite but does not represent all of Andalites as a specie, pitied the Yeerks because they spent so much of their lives blind, deaf and helpless. He wanted to help them explore the galaxy, and so he facilitated it.
The Andalites as a whole did not build portable Kandrona for the Yeerks, Seerow did. As Aftran put it, in the eyes of the Yeerks he was the one good Andalite.

possible that there was natural limitations that the yeerks faced on their homeworld.

we don't know how they grow too full size yeerks or how kandronas supply can effect that growth maybe yeerks are only really smart if they grow in food rich environment.

considering the lack of advancement for such a intelligent species i always thought that the yeerks were locked into a never ending cycle of population boom and bust. once the yeerks population reached a critical point the supply of kandronas was used faster then replaced, dooming the pool, the taking of hosts the only way that the species were able to survive a bust and find a new pool that had had time to recover since the last bust.

in both case seerow could have helped the yeerks find that magic combination of population and intelligence that could allow the yeerks to advance themselves.

That's a good theory. Couples with the fact that Gedds are quite unimpressive at best, it would be difficult to become advanced. Though I'm sure they could have built homes for the Gedds. We also don't know how far into their species they were.

I mean, they could still be in the time of history, like when Humans were living in straw huts and hoes and rakes were the newest breakthrough in technology.

I'm not sure the gedds were that unimpressive they beat the andalites to death so they need too have some power and the fact is the gedds needed to be hardy enough to handle space flight, make a few raids on other ships, and do all the heavy work for the invasion of the hork-bajir. then they had to have some usefulness as the yeerk still had gedd host 30 years after the escape so they can't be that bad...

as for the yeerks being in a early development stage we know that the iskoort had been around for some time and that they were yeerks so we can give the yeerks at least a thousand year at their current intelligence level then give them another hundred thousand years of developing that intelligence. there should have been some notable signs of advancement if they were developing as humans had gedd herding, cultivation gedd food, construction of super yeerk pools...etc. for humans the only times we see no advancement is times of crashing civilization or population so small/pathetic they they are next too worthless. yeerk did not have a civilization too crash nor were they so small in number that they could be call pathetic. too me only the boom and bust of population could explain why they were so undeveloped and were worthy of seerow's kindness.

There where over 400 gedds vs 24 andalites.
