The only reason I didn't like the ending was because it wasn't an ending, it was a beginning and I wanted to keep reading.

Yeah. You wouldn't think it was the end of the series if KA didn't tell you it was over now. At least I wouldn't. Of course I like it when a series concludes.

I didn't like the fact that Rachel died or the introduction of a new enemy.  The author's reasoning for killing Rachel was petty.  Has she even read her own series?  The animorphs are clearly superheroes; if she wanted realism there would have been casualties a lot sooner.  I doubt the team would survive past book 12 if this series was trying to be realistic.  It's like K.A. didn't care about her series (or her fans) by this book.  To say anything more on the matter would be a waste, there is only dust where this horse has been beaten.

I like how things turned out for the post-war Animorphs and the human race.  Had the surviving Animorphs not gone into space after Ax, they would surely have had easy lives on Earth.  I don't mind Visser 3 living, can't really put into words why though.

Yes I liked the last book.  Except for Rachel dying.

You could argue she was starting to lose interest when most of the second half of the series wasn't written by her. Yeah the horse has been reduced to nothingness as it's been beaten for a decade. People have liked and disliked the ending to varying degrees, and both sides sometimes tell each other they're missing the point.

To be fair I haven't actually read #54 (probably never will), but I know all of the major plot developments. I like that things weren't tied up in a pretty bow. A major character's death was inevitable, IMO, although I would've sworn Jake would be the one to die. Despite being a huge J/C and T/R shipper I thought it was realistic that neither couple ended up together @ series end.

But I also feel the end was almost TOO open-ended...too many things left unresolved amongst the group, if not the rest of the world they lived in. I hated that Rachel never got a moment w/ her dad that he could be proud of her, or that Jake/Marco/Tobias presumably met their deaths while trying to rescue Ax after managing to survive everything else. And I don't believe Cassie's post-war life would be easy at all - left alone with virtually no one to understand what she went through all those years. I might explore that in a fic sometime soon.
"I guess sometimes you have to choose between smart, sane, ruthlessness, and totally stupid, insane hope. You can't just pick one and stick with it, either. Each time it comes up, you have to try and make your best decision. Most of the time, I guess I have to go with being smart and sane. But I don't want to live in a world where people don't try the stupid, crazy, hopeful thing sometimes."

I don't like the ending very much. As others said, it seems as if the author had lost interest in the series. I read that it was an 80-books series at the beginning, then reduced t0 72, then to 64 and in the end to 54. It seems like if KA had tried to finish the series as soon as possible.  :(

It's too sofly for me. I would have expected an open war, something like "Indipendence Day" with the arrival of Andalite fleet. And Rachel's death...mmm...I don't understand it. As Oceanspray above said :

Quote
The animorphs are clearly superheroes; if she wanted realism there would have been casualties a lot sooner.

That's all. It seems as if the author was obliged to obey to a strange rule (and it's not clear where it came out and why) which states :  "A main character must die. If not, it's rubbish or book for babies". Well, I think that there are other thing that makes these book childish. It would have been better if only one animorph had survived, then. It would have more sense : all survived or almost all dead. Happy end it's not a crime, even for a war book.

And the way the Auxiliary Animorphs are wiped out from the story...mmm....it's nonsense. No credible reason for this. And the reason for Rachel's death is blatantly weak, imho.
It's as if she had not wanted to write about a post-war future for them.

I admit that, taken out of context, the ending is good, well-written, also intriguing for some aspects, e.g. Arbron and Taxxon rebellion are really exciting.

But, ultimately, it's pretty disappointing, compared to the whole series. It looks very forced, hurried, and leaves a lot of unresolved issues.

what kind of STUPID QUESTION IS THAT????!!?? I HATE THE ENDING! if my hatred of the ending of the series was a vapor, it would bring one earth atmosphere of pressure to the vacuum of space. which, by the way, is just a wee bit bigger than the human mind can fathom.

I have also decided to hate applegate. I still like the series, but nothing so filthy has ever consumed earths resources as this pathetic excuse for an author now does. I am not a murderer. but if, say, someone else where to rid the world of this lousy scum, I would do a little dance, throw a little party. set off some iddy bitty fireworks, etcetera, etcetera... I love a series and hate its author. how is that possible? It took an ending engineered for maximum possible despair and heartbreak. I cannot imagine what evil must exist in a mind that could produce a resolution this revolting. some things In this world I might never understand.
