Animorphs 55: The Redemption
« on: March 15, 2011, 09:02:49 PM »
The ground was wet, and I was shivering from the cold. Looking around, I sensed that everything was different now. But it wasn't exactly my surroundings that had changed; not really. I was still lying face down in that little meadow, with the world's most persistent hawk. I was hiding in a small thicket by a quaint little stream surrounded by overgrown grass.

It was still the same place as it had been the previous night--only smaller. It was then that I realized that I was different. I was much bigger than I had been in a long time. My skin lost all it's fur, except for the certain blonde patches scattered around my body. My skin was now a light beige. And, more amazing that any of those other things, I had two arms and two legs.

      Also, I was completely naked.

David. That was my name. I guess it still is after all this time. After two years of living as a common varitey street rat I was human again. I was David again. And even though being human again was beyond impossible--since I had broken one of the most important rules of the Andalite morphing technology--I wasn't going to start complaining. After all, being stark naked in the middle of a meadow was nothing compared to that awful island off the coast of Santa Barbra. It's true when they say that there are things in life that you just can't unsee; the things you can't blink away. That hell of a rock was such an unforgettable place, and not in a pleasant sense.

I got to my feet. I was a little wobbly. I hadn't walked on two legs in a very long time, so you couldn't blame me for falling on my bare ass.
     I laughed...
And that laughter grew and grew until they became cheerful sobs. I had tears in my eyes-- a very human thing for me to do. For all that time I had spent on that island I had been distrubed by my inability to cry. The most I could do was scream by way of thought speech. So I didn't hate myself for crying. It only made the possibility of me being human agfain seem all the more real; not some extension of those life-like dreams that I often had as a rat. I was really human again...

I started to observe myself, to make sure that everything was there. I had two arms, two hands, ten fingers; two legs, two feet, ten toes; hair, birth marks, moles; and all those other things that boys my age should have. Clearly, I was human. Somehow...I was human.

I decided tp test out my voice next.

     "My name is David."

Only it came out as "...Muh Vid..."

I swallowed hard and waited a bit before trying again.

"My name is David." I whispered. "My name is David..."

After a few more tries I had gotten my voice to a higher, more confident levek. And every time I said my name it came out louder than before.

"My name is David." I said, grinning to myself. "My name is David!"

And, being the dramatic person that I was, I threw my head back and shouted to the sky a single sentence:

     "My name is David!"

Where are you going with this? I like it so far. The only theories I have for David being human again are Crayak, the Drode, the Ellimist, or a really smart Andalite scientist.

Is this story on FanFiction.net? I tried searching for it but their search tool is currently broken. If it was, that would expose the story to more readers, and you'd get more feedback.
