The Earth Diary of Aximlli-Esgarrouth-Isthill
« on: February 05, 2011, 01:43:57 AM »
In The Alien Ax began several of his chapters with excerpts from the diary he kept on earth.

I have morphed some Andalite animals. And I have morphed many strange Earth animals.
But the animal I morphed the most is the human animal. They are weak, slow, half-blind, and
unstable, but no Andalite should laugh at them. Humans rule their planet. And as the human
Rachel once said, Earth is a tough neighborhood. -From the Earth Diary of Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill

A human has only two eyes. Both are on the front of the face. It Is the same with most Earth
species. These human eyes are very similar to our own main eyes. But humans seem
fascinated by my stalk eyes. One of the humans, Marco, has said they "creep him out big
time." I believe this is a compliment. -From the Earth Diary of Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill

What did you think of this? Did you like it or hate it, did you wish it had continued or were you glad it stopped, and why do you think it stopped?
"When life gives you lemons you make lemonade. When a dying Andalite Prince gives you the morphing power? Well then you make miracles." ~Me

“Screams of a billion murdered stars give lie to the night's peace, while we cling desperately to the few fragile spinning stones we call worlds." ~Hasturi the Mad Perseid, Andromeda

“Well, remember what you said, because in a day or two, I'll have a witty and blistering retort! You'll be devastated THEN!” ~ Calvin, Calvin and Hobbes

I liked it. I think it was interesting and enjoyable but would have grown boring if it had continued.

The reason I think it didn't continue is because it was only for Ax's first narration (besides MM1). A way of highlighting his unique perspective and the difficulties he must face on an alien planet. After #8 he slowly becomes a bigger part of the Animorphs team and isn't as out of place.

So my opinion is that K.A. used the diary extract format just for his first book to emphasise his difference to the others, a difference which once established so clearly could be incorporated into ordinary narration in later books.

I liked the diary. I understand why it didn't continue, but also kind of wish it did.

Maybe in this second trip around, KAA will pull a JKR and release Ax's diary as a seperate book.

In the case that she doesn't, I propose making an Earth Diary for him, one for each book he's in, starting with #4 and excluding #8 since that one already exists.

I say this because I, for one, am quite interested on his comments on things like Terran politics (#6, #20-#22), traitors (#18, #22), the Chee (most books after #10 but especially #25-#36) and relationships (#26, #27 and #38 come to mind).
I may seem like an idiot, but trust me: I know what I'm talking about.

Sounds like a fanfiction possibility. Maybe you could start it off in the RP section and invite others to post to it as a group story.

I rather enjoyed the Diary...I missed it in later books.
Meh.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Thing is, I'm not very good at writing fics.

In fact, the only thing I'm good at seems to be word searches.
