G'Day!
« on: September 28, 2008, 08:10:11 AM »
Hi everyone, the name's Dave, and I'm from Australia :D I found this forum a week or two ago, and thought I'd give it a go, cos it looks like a lot of fun with a lot of awesome people. Also, I really like Animorphs, although I'm only just getting back into it after a while of not really being into them...I recently purchased the series again, and waiting for it to get here, so I will soon the exact differences between an Ellimist and an Andalite again :D

So, what can I say about myself?...I like to read...a lot. I've got like 4-5 shelves of books, mostly teen fantasy, like Artemis Fowl and Discworld stuff. I hated the Da Vinci Code (actually I couldn't even finish it cos it was so boring) and I'm kinda completely over Harry Potter. My fav books are the Redemption of Althalus, The Thief of Time and the Magic Circle quartet, by Tamora Pierce

I like in Adelaide, Australia (hence the typical Aussie greeting...and yes, I do actually use that in everyday speech :D). I'm 18 and go to uni, studying Computer and Info Science/Media Arts, which I'm really enjoying, although the people I've met are certainly more interesting than the subjects :D

I love RENT...Oh yes, I'm a RENThead. And if you don't know what that means, then you are sadly underexposed to Broadway :D My avatar is a modified RENT logo, with my name...so there's no excuse to forget my name hehe

What else? Well, I'm a moderater on another forum, EmptyClosets, so if there's anyone else from there that's here then HI! It's a support place for gay teens, so yeah... in any case, I've had loads of experience on a forum already, and I'm glad Ive found another one that looks pretty cool :D

Also, I'm a bit of movie buff...I love my movies, with my fave genres being horror, fantasy and thriller. Gotta love the horror movies, although I have to say that I'm usually laughing at the gory scenes. I'm just like that. And if anyone wants to laugh at a "scary" movie, rent Nightmare on Elm Street...That movie is HILARIOUS! Esp the part where Freddy's running down an alleyway and he magically grows his arms to like a few metres long each. Good times :D

Anyway, I've waffled on enough...Glad to meet you all, and catchya round :D

Dave

PS. I just realised how much I use :D...sorry for the superfluous :Ds, my bad :)

PPS. I totally just copied most of my intro from my intro at another board, so sorry if you've read it before :D

Wow! Claire, you finally get to meet another RAFian in person!

Welcome, Dave. 'Rent' is AWESOME!!

You DO know that it is just La Boheme, though, right?

Haha, Estelore, I basically know the RENT wikipedia page off by heart :D Can't say that I've seen La Boheme, though...I wonder how it compares...

...Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever heard any opera...Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum!

I love to read as well and I dabble in young adult fiction quite a bit. Artemis Fowl, Skulduggery Pleasant, Cirque Du Freak, Abarat. Great stuff. I've read a handful of the Discworld books, I love those! Death has to be a favorite character of mine.

Movies are also a hobby of mine. I love the classics, especially the monster movie classics.

I myself am an Elementary Education Major. And trust me, that is a junk load of work.  :P

Haven't seen RENT, will have to add that to my list. I have seen Wicked, Phantom of the Opera and Cats. The only opera I've seen is The Magic Flute because we have a video tape at my house.

Welcome! Glad to see another musical fan here.

I like Wagner's Lohengrin and Britten's Peter Grimes.  And of course you can't go wrong with Carmen by Georges Bizet.  ;)

Stick to the ABC's and you'll never go wrong:

Aida, La Boheme or Il Barbiere de Seviglia, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, Faust, Gianni Schicci, Hansel und Gretel, Il Trovatore, The Jacobin, King Roger, La Traviata or Lakme or Lohengrin, Manon, Nozze de Figaro, L'Orfeo, I Pagliacci, The Queen of Spades, Rigoletto, Serse, Tannhauser or Turandot or Tosca, (no U), Le Villi, Die Walkure, (no x), Yerma, and Die Zauberflote.

Enjoy!

The Magic Flute (Zauberflote) is in my top 3. Mozart. He rules.

Watch Verdi for its sheer excellence. Watch Puccini to laugh and bawl your eyes out in public. Watch Rossini for the drama. Watch Mozart for the music and the ridiculosity of it all. Watch Goethe for...Goethe. He just rocks.

Watch Wagner for...

Wait...

then again, just do not watch Wagner. It's a bad idea, really. :-\ :P
