Alternate Naratives pitch
« on: January 13, 2011, 01:28:01 PM »
I'm not sure If I posted anything about this yet before (of if it's been brought up by someone else yet!) I think I may have mentioned it in my what-if idea of having the Animorphs been young adults rather than kids, but this is a project of mine that has been on the tip of my tongue for awhile.

Dating all the way back to 2002, I always wondered, what would the Ani-books be like if the same situations and plots occurred, but through alternate characters perspectives?

By this, it's always been at the back of my mind to attempt retelling The Invasion, but through Tobias' eyes (go figure, right? LOL) rather than Jake's. This isn't to say I don't absolutely love the first book from Jake's POV, I just think it would be interesting to get it from other characters sides, get to know what's happening in their minds.

For instance, in the first book, there's a moment where Visser Three is about to show up and whilst the others run, Tobias stays with Elfangor for a moment longer. If I were to do this just-for-fun project, this is a moment that I'd be very eager to write and explore!

In fact, I've already started. The first three chapters have been written, but I'm hesitant to post anything incomplete. I usually tend to keep my work, even fanfiction, to myself until I'm absolutely sure of it. Until then I'll probably just keep it updated on my facebook account -nod- But Lemme know! Is this a project RAF might find intriguing??

Can't hurt to just post it and see what happens. People will give you advice like always, so just be prepared for some constructive criticsm.

On Tobias' remaining with Visser Three we do kind of get an alternative perspective in Andalite Chronicles. But it would be interesting to see what was going on with Tobias when we couldn't see him through anyone's eyes.

IE, deciding to morph Dude. I also read a fanfiction way back in high school where someone covered the events leading up to Tobias getting his head shoved in the toilet.

Ooh, this sounds fascinating! :D But as Nate said, you may want to post it, however, it's your final decision. It'll be very interesting the see the Invasion from Tobias's view, including the first morph and his becoming a notlith. Hope it goes well!

Oh I'm always up for actual constructive criticism. I just can't stand when people for no reason at all are like "yah this sucks u shud go kill urself"  ... Can't really take much away from that. Nor from a person who can't spell worth spit and yet is trying to actually critique me LOL.

But Thanks for the support, I'll get some work done in my freetime and see how it pans out!!

Can't wait to give it to ya! However I'd really like to familiarize myself with the first book before I begin writing seriously, cause I'm going off of memory at the moment... May needs to get here faster so I can start my re-release collection!!

So I'll do my best when I can, but don't expect anything solid until I've gotten back in touch with the Invasion. I don't like doing anything unless I'm solid about it LOL

Worse thing you can do is a writer is to keep putting off writing.

If you're not going to write this particular project until after you've re-read the first book, I would at least try to write something else so that your own writing improves over time and gets to the point where you feel good presenting it to people.

Maybe do a few writing challenges, which I honestly think we should get going in the fanfiction board.

Haha! Oh, only so many more months, and weeks, and days.. and hours >___< I think I just ripped my hair out. Lmao best things in life are worth waiting for I suppose!

And I so agree! It's been a personal life long dream of mine to... Imagine, so to speak. Writing is the work part of it LOL. Ever since I was a kid, I couldn't even play with my action figures without giving them all well-thought out plots. I also think Role Playing is a great practice for writing!

My freetime is very sparse at the moment but I'll definitely see if I can get something in. If anything else, I might just have fun writing something short about Tobias and his enjoying of flying, riding the thermals and such. That way I don't have to necessarily worry if its absolute canon or not Lol. But then again, Fanfics ARE supposed to just be for fun, so I don't think I'd get too harsh of a reaction. Least, I hope not -fingers crossed-

*plans on berating Tobburke's fanfiction for him*
Trust me, people normally give their honest opinions. Fanfictions are supposed to let your imagination soar! Don't be afraid of being canon. Let yourself go wild. :D

I swear, it's like you're my Canadian doppleganger. Right down to the favorite Animorphs character.

If you tell me you collected power ups from Super Mario 3 during the third and forth grades I'll have apoplexy.

Lmao exactly! And, oh boy do I love to soar...  Actually, haha, that's totally in fantasy. In real life, I'm actually TERRIFIED of heights! Though, wanting to fly free is something I've always desired. Maybe one day I'll muster up the courage to face my fears and go sky diving or something, lmao!

and haha! Nice!!! Super Mario Bros was always a favorite of mine., Actually, to be honest, to date, I prefer NES games over however many new systems they come out with. Nothing is ever going to beat the days of whupin' my grandpas arse at Mario Bros!
