I just re-read #26 and I have a theory
« on: June 20, 2010, 06:17:24 PM »
When I re-read The Attack I got the feeling that The Ellimist was lying to the animorphs about the yeerks and the yoorts meeting in 300 years. I actually think the Ellimist transported the animorphs to 300 years in the future and the yeerks had already become the yoorts. I think the Crayak was trying to destroy a peaceful future that the yeerks were heading towards instead of continuing to be a conquesting species.

All of this comes from this line from the Ellimist early on in the book.

This species occupies a unique location in space-time.

Furthermore this would kind of fit in with the end of the final book when the yeerk empire was reforming. I figure after a few more iterations of the yeerks having to reform they would realise that war was not actually profitable towards their ultimate goal which really was to traverse the stars and to be able to have bodies of their own. If they made their own bodies however then they would be able to see the stars, have bodies that worked beautifully for them, and not tick off the rest of the galaxy while doing it.

what do you guys think? Possible?

Judging from the ending of the series, I'm not sure how it ties into the Yeerks meeting the Iskoort in 300 years. It seems in 300 years the Yeerks would all be dead or nothlitized. So it's a bit odd. I wonder if there is any fan that didn't like the ending because it didn't tie in very well to The Attack.

Cool theory, but if its the future the crayak couldn't really change the timeline by destroying the yoorts. If the yeerks already turned into the yoorts then its only reversible by changing something earlier in the timeline

It is an interesting idea, but I have at least one  problem with it: The Animorphs and Ax are kinda a big deal after war, in human andalite and presumably Yeerk and other alien cultures. I'm sure with all their guilds the iskoort would probalby have a couple good historians who could say "Five shape shifting humans and an Andalite- I've heard this before."
Someone should mention deja vu to say the least :-\
Something, something, oh crap I pissed everyone off again....

eh good point my theory is probably wrong in that case. Still would be interesting though if it were the case imo.

Not to change the subject, but I hate it when people automatically assume that the yeerk empire was completely destroyed after the war on Earth was won by the humans. The Glorious Yeerk Empire slimy little parasites still held many a planet and race... I always figured that the fighting could go on for many years after the war on Earth.
Meh.

Well I guess they could still be around, and I have seen posts of people that expect the Empire to still be around even though they lost a lot of Yeerks to nothlitism, Earth, Leera, and the Anati system in the timespan of three years.

Of course they still have the HB Homeworld, assuming the resistance fails. They sill have the Taxxon Homeworld.

I probably shouldn't just assume the Empire fell apart within the next decade after Earth was won, but another 300 years? That's a stretch.

In addition, you have the group of Yeerks that escaped on Tom's Blade Ship into restricted space. You also have random moons and whatnot that the Yeerks bought from the Skrit Na. The Yeerk Empire was definitely divided by the battle on Earth, but divisiveness creates the perfect situation for a new leader to step up and bring everyone together again. It would be all too easy for an ambitious Yeerk to pick up the pieces.

Yeah, maybe there are just pockets now, or maybe the ones that escaped on the Bladeship will start something else under The One's protection. With the way they breed (3 Yeerks become like 30 or something), all it takes is one unknown pocket to start it all over.

I like to think it's over because I like closure. But that's just me, and there are definitely ways I could be wrong.

not necessarially.  Granted, i'll give you the HB world, assuming the resistance fails, but the taxxon are a hive-mind species.  We know that they can communicate within their own species (or at least the mind can communicate with her children)  I'm willing to bet that at least one taxxon (arbaron maybe before he was killed) had a chat with the hivemind, something like "we don't have to be hungry all the time, we can morph..."  Not saying it happened instantly, but with so many yeerks willing to leave even human and hork-bajir hosts in exchange for the nothlization, I'm sure there would be a HUGE number of taxxon-controllers willing to defect for a chance to be free of that hunger...

just my theory, I personally believe that the fight didn't end on earth, and the empire is still strong, just crippled at the moment

Can they comminucate with the Hive from another planet? I don't think they really have the same hive mind as the Howlers, just that the Living Hive can talk to them when they're on the planet. I don't know if Arbron could have gotten word out to the homeworld.

possible, but I was leaning more toward the ideals that the yeerks in the taxxon bodies would be willing to accept the whole "morph and be free" policy even more than the Earth-bound yeerks, who have hork-bajir and human bodies.  That hunger has to suck a lot.  The Yeerks know about what happened on earth, obviously (in the last book it says "some yeerks contacted the home world to report the situation and were ordered to fight) and that word will get out quickly, especially in an empire where the lower ranked are sacrificed so easily.

As has already been pointed out, that 3 Yerks from one generation can make dozens in another; then their ability to multiply is only limited to their ability to spread out, take hosts and gather resources to construct artificial Kandrona generators. Once a few hosts are taken on a planet, many, multiplying the hosts isn't a problem either and wherever they can build enough of a force to entrench and engage in battle against Andalites/ect. they can also afford to shoot off a few more exploratory ships after more unprepared host planets. Ultimately though, it might make the most cohesive sense to the series to take #26, The Attack as a solid source of canonical evidence that the Yeerks are not universally wiped as an empire simply because the Ellimist says that they will need to see the Yoorks as an alternative to their ways in 300 years.
If your attack is going well, you have walked into an ambush.
