Letting guests/non-logged in members read entire threads
« on: May 19, 2010, 09:45:23 PM »
Currently, guests/non-logged in members can't read entire threads. They can only read the first post in each thread.

I'm sure there was a good reason for doing this, but it's pretty irritating. Any chance thread-reading could be enabled for guests?

Thanks!

the incentive is:
a. to enforce members to join.
b. to not allow anonymous people to wander in and read out thoughts. with an account comes an email.

just sign up/in.

If guests can only see the OP in all threads, why even let them view the forum at all?

the reason there are threads/posts off limits to brand new members and guests is because those are boards that have members that have been around for a while sharing pictures, stories and such. Therefore in order to keep it relatively safe (as safe as the internet can be anyways), only members that have been/are relatively active, or have been/are relatively long members of RAF can go.

I hope this clarifies. This was decided a while ago, so I don't remember the exact details

Because I keep all my passwords in KeePass, and I frequently have to work on computers that don't let me run my own programs. End result: I can't sign in (at least not until I get back to my own system).
Not that big a deal, and it's certainly overridden by privacy concerns.

Ah, that explains it. As a privacy lover, I can see exactly where you're coming from.

Sorry for the inconvenience; feel free to lock this thread.
