I have no sense of gaydar, either.  At the time when I was first reading #40, I just thought they were really good friends.  It wasn't until someone actually told me about the 'gay Andalite couple from book 40' that I got it.

Maybe that's another reason why they hid from the media after the war, as well.  I can't imagine that the gay lifestyle would have been very well-recieved by other Andalites.

Really we have no idea how Andalites would respond to that sort of thing. I mean sure they might disapprove, but on the flip side they might actually be okay with it, the Japanese Samurai were like the Andalites: proud, maybe a little arrogant, they had a very strong warrior tradition and the Samurai considered homosexuality to be totally moral.
