Shenmue's Poetry Dump
« on: March 27, 2017, 11:48:16 AM »
So...The following is basically everything in my phone's "Memos" app from 2016 until now. Consider it string of consciousness poetry. (Hell, one is about cicadas. XD). I'll start with the latest first:

A tear drops from her eyes as we stand upon the wreckage

Of all the broken things inside us

And we are reminded that they're gone

And we are reminded that they're missed

Iron plated fool that lives

Cursed be your countenance

For you shed not a single tear

For all those nights and blessed years

((This one is hard to explain. It's a reference to a past relationship of ours that was never mentioned here.))

I purse my lips and bend my knee
To your decrepit majesty
Where once we were fancy free
Obsequious now for tyranny

Bring all the broken toys to me
I'll make them shine again
You'll see

((Ever written a poem that didn't make sense at the time you wrote it, and you just like the sound of the words together? This is that poem for me. XD)

We await the fated Glory
Below the Earth as ugly drones
Sipping on the staff of life
Perchance to see the glowing stone

We are all told every day
We are disgusting, plain, unwanted
We pray to the image of beauty
Glittering, shining, blissful, vaunted

We are unworthy
We are sacrosanct
We have nothing
We have potential
We must clean and scrub and sew
Yet our brilliance captures you

Eventually our day, it comes
And we all open our wings as one
Glory is precious, beauty is fleeting
Life anew and a million hearts beating

And I hear the chorus
Even though it's the end
Even though the first breath
Is the nectar and flower of Death

But still I have waited, and so I sing
For I am special, and I am wanted!
I am Nature's herald and king!

But after the briefness of the spring
I fall to Winter with broken wing.

((Here's the cicada poem, as promised. I guess I found myself empathizing with them. What it must be like to live such a short life as an adult in your prime, spending decades as an ugly child among millions...)

Once I was wet and writhing flesh
Vulnerable and so alone
Alive with spite from brain to bone
Every moment was mine alone

Every thought tender with fear
Every kiss drew so near
And every Light burned hard within
And I could not bear the infernal din

So I found the Forge
I knew the road
And I put away the Heart I felt
Ribbons of blood and steel I've smelt.

I grasp the words but they do not come
I gasp for breath but my lungs feel dry
I scream for Life but Death greets me
And I wonder if the Heart can die

Emptiness lies in the side crevices
The alleyways burn within my brain
Where once Glory's light glimmered
The lamps are frozen or insane

I will myself to take the torch
Small and flickering in my hand
And I search again for that force
That made the fire Grim and grand

I seek the hearth but cannot find
I fight for strength and receive weakness
I long for what I cannot have
Yet I will not halt for anything

I dunno if any of it is any good, and it chronicles a pretty miserable bout with anhedonia (Inability to feel normal amounts of pleasure). But if you're feeling on the creepy side, here it is. XD

Dude these are awesome! I really like the second one.
Well, I'm the boss... Head Honcho. El Numero Uno. Mr. Big. The Godfather. Lord of the Rings. The Bourne... Identity. Er... Taxi Driver. Jaws. I forgot the question quite a while back. Who are you, again?

: D Thank you Quaf! Although I can make the "It's always that one I don't care about" joke here; Estelore liked that one too. The words just sound cool together to me, the semantic equivalent of "Colorless green ideas" or something. : 3

I like the third one the most :) Interesting poetry!

I'm weirdly fond of the cicada poem too. I started writing it almost on impulse in the middle of a bus ride. The best of the lot are always random like that. :P
