Things Visser Four Should Have Done With the Time Matrix
« on: April 18, 2011, 08:29:03 PM »
After reading Megamorphs 3: Elfangor's Secret a few weeks ago, I was thinking about places Visser Four should have travelled to instead of what we're given: Agincourt, Trafalgar, Dellaware, Marathon, Alternate United States of America Post World War One, and the Alternate Second World War.

I think that, if Visser Four wanted to really hurt America and its dominence, he should have gone back in time and killed Christopher Columbus (the explorer, not the director of the first two Harry Potter movies), thus stopping him from [ACCIDENTALLY] discovering America.

He should also have also gone back to Greece and turned the tide of the Persian wars. Imagine how much culture would have been lost if he killed one of the Athenian generals (I know we learned his name, I just can't remember...). Also, the battles between Rome and Carthage--such a thing could have obliterated the Roman Empire.

To name a few more: Waterloo--the battle between France and England and Prussia that literally changed the world-- any of the victories of the Entent during the First World War (I'm sure England and its allies were the Entent...I can't remember. I just know the term Allies switches in WW1 and WW2), the pop culture explosion in America, the forming of the Beatles (hey, think about where music would be without our wonderful Beatles), etc.

My money? Visser Four had an idiot ball with him when he touched the Time Matrix.

I mean, you have this spatial/temporal manipulation device that you can use to literally remake the universe in your own image and what do you do? You screw with Earth history to improve your situation? Earth wasn't where you screwed up, it was Leera.

I'd have fixed time so that Leera would have been a definite win. Visser Four would have scored a major victory. Leerans would be shipped to Earth enmasse and the "Andalite bandits" would be fished out in a heartbeat. V4 would likely have gotten one of the Animorphs for his host as a reward.

All of the Andalites currently using morphing to spy on the Yeerks would be routed and gutted. Visser Four's contribution to the Empire would bring the galaxy to it's knees and he would likely have taken the now defunct Visser One's spot.

Instead he has to get a case of Tunnel Vision and screw with Earth history since that was where he was relocated when he got demoted.

Instead he has to get a case of Tunnel Vision and screw with Earth history since KAA wanted to write an amateur history lesson and pass it off as a Megamorphs book.
Fixed :)

We could've done without The Beatles.

If I really wanted to screw up musical pop culture, I'd go back to August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana.

Imagine what would've happened to MTV without "Billie Jean".
I may seem like an idiot, but trust me: I know what I'm talking about.

Definitely agree with NateSean. It's highly unlikely a Visser would have been unaware of the military importance of Leera. No way at all. V4 just wasn't that clever/resourceful.

About Christopher Columbus, it's not necessarily a bad thing if he didn't discover America. At some point someone would have, it's almost an inevitability that resources would consumed. Would V4 just keep checking to prevent USA from developing? If you want to destroy a nation you teach it a lesson of cruelty not prevent it's development. Corruption, civil wars, desertification, diseases in Africa; look how underdeveloped and downtrodden certain countries are. No offence meant to anyone.

Unless you intended to wipe out mankind you still want them to populate. You just want them weak and easy pickings.
Temporal Traveller Aquilai: "One small step back in time. One GIANT leap for mankind."
"People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "reality". But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? Merely vague concepts… their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?"

While we're on the subject of who should have done what with the Time Matrix, and severe cases of tunnel vision how did Cassie figure killing a human host would prevent Visser Four from finding it again?

Why not work it out that before V4 could find it, somehow the TM got sent into the center of the effing sun! Problem solved. No one has to die.

Most of the megamorphs seem pretty dumb...
It seems a important leader in the yeerk empire could think of better things to do then what he did.  How does making America weak help the yeerks?  Visser one knew that taking over America would position the yeerks well to conquer the rest of the world.  I agree with natesean about leera.  Not to mention the countless other battles and important times where the yeerks could have shifted the tide against the Andalites other places.

He could have just goen abck to indian days and put a chemical in the soil that allows crops to grow well but slowly starts to weaken those eating it.

All V4 would have needed to do would have been to warn his past self about the Andalite plan to blow up the main Leeran continent!

As for the alternate America with slaves seen at the start of MM3, I have wondered the following:

Are the slaves allowed to join the Sharing?

If Yeerks are infested into American troops who are fighting in Brazil to wipe out the Primitives, how are they guaranteed access to Kandrona radiation every 3 days?

Or he could have prevented Alloran from releasing the quantum virus, thereby giving the yeerks access to the hosts they needed at the beginning of their war.  Or better, prevent... Aldrea, I think that was her name, from warning the andalites that the yeerks were on the HB home world.

Or kill Alloran before he either develops the virus or becomes the host of Esplin 9466, thus eliminating Visser 3 as a rival!
