Hey guys. I'm thinking about getting my very first (and only!) tattoo. I'm not generally a tattoo person, but Animorphs is something that has been in my life since I was ten years old. It has, quite literally, helped to define who I am. I'm not planning on getting anything big or elaborate. It won't be something that anyone would look at and say, "Hey, Animorphs, I remember that!" It's for me and me only, and it would be small and discreet.
What I want to get is Elfangor's dying word <Hope...> across the back of my ankle or the inside of my wrist in a shade of brown (a few shades darker than my skin tone). What do you think? Should I do it? If I do, should I take out the thought-speech marks or leave them in?
If you got an Animorphs tattoo, what would you get?

Heh, that'd be pretty awesome. Get the logo too though, because "<Hope>" itself is a little vague for representation of the series. If you could get the logo on the top of the front cover of each book, with perhaps the "<Hope>" just beneath it or something, that'd be a killer tattoo.

Definitely leave in the thought-speach characters.
I would go with that word, and maybe a cool design around it of an andalite's tail whipping up behind the word so all you see is the tail.
Just my thoughts.

If I were to get one though, it would definitely have to be an actual picture of an andalite in the forefront, and a bear, hawk, tiger, wolf, and gorilla in the background behind it, and they'd be in battle positions. I would put it on my back.

I think it would work but remember that if you get a tattoo on your arm it has to be able to be hidden by a short sleeve t-shirt. I think it is awesome though.

That sounds like an awesome idea.
You have to leave the thought speak marks. That would be enough for an animorphs fan to know it. Just "hope..." is pretty vague.
And just leave it at that. Anything more elaborate (logo/andalite/etc) would be too obvious.
Wolfev makes a good point. Arm might be a bit obtrusive...

If I ever got an Animorphs tattoo, I think it would be the <A> logo, except more ornately decorated.

and the wrist would be a cool place for it, you dont have to worry about hiding it you can just wear a bracelet
that would be cool too claire, those are good cause they arent blatantly animorphs but a fan would spot them

So I think I won't a big help ;)
If I made a tattoo, it'd never be a logo or something like that... I wouldn't make a Yeerk, because it isn't really cute ^_^' But a beautiful Andalite, yeah!!! hahahahahha!!
If I hadn't already a dragon as tattoo, maybe I'd make an Andalite at this place... maybe ;)
... Yeah, I know, it isn't "small and discreet" lol
So... what about only the stalk eyes or the tail? lol

I think it's a good idea. Animorphs fans will know what it is but everyone else will just think it's an inspirational tattoo.
If I was going to get an Animorphs related tattoo I'd probably get a Red-tailed hawk or something like that.

That is a freaking awesome idea and I'm extremely jealous I didn't think of it! Definitely do it. Just that one phrase, and definitely leave in the thought-speech symbols.
Now that you mention it, I think I will get an animorphs tattoo eventually. Dunno what though. Either a quote like you said or perhaps an eye that is tiger on the left and human on the right, or something similar. I'm already planning to get a Harry Potter tattoo; in my handwriting on the back of my right hand in white ink so it looks like a scar, the words "I must not tell lies".
But yeah, get that tattoo, and post some pictures!

Dude, I'd say go for it if you want--just bring along someone to hold your hand XD I've been the hand holder before...and I'm pretty sure that was more painful than the actual tattooing process ::)
I like the idea of the Animorphs "A", but it reminds me a little too much of the TV show. Still, it's discreet and does the job...if I got an Animorphs tattoo it'd be something small like that. Everyone already knows I'm a ridiculous Ani-nerd, they don't need a big sign pasted onto my forehead to get the point across x3 A little sign would suffice. I wish Animorphs had a language script like Tolkien has, but barring weird nerdy sci-fi writing I'd probably get a little grey-green Yeerk with some little swirlies--that way people could just be like, "hey, nice uh...slug...thingie ..."

I wouldn't want to get "Animorphs" or the "A" or anything b/c I feel that that is TOO recognizable, you know? I want something that only a true Ani-fan would recognize and everyone else would think is just a little inspirational word with some funny symbols next to it. :P

I already have my first tattoo planned (The Triforce, from Legend of Zelda), but I'd love to get an Animorphs tattoo... Maybe a Hork-Bajir or an Andalite or something.
Luckily, the job I want as a career doesn't usually care about tattoos, so I'm good on that front. XD

And for the job... if they can't accept my tattoo, then... I can't delete it, so...
If you really want a discreet tattoo, I think the best is your sentence <Hope...>: it's a good idea, Animrophs fans would understand and other people will understand something good too ^_^ The red-tailed hawk is also a good idea, but the tattoo will be biger, I think. But I don't agree about the logo ^_^' I wouldn't like to have a logo on my skin, as if I was wearing an advertising... it's like T-shirt with a number on it, I can't wear that ^_^'

I want a tatoo but they would look gross when I'm 50. I like the idea of attaching one of those erasable pads to my arm for erasable tattoos, like Joel in MST3K for those familiar with it.

Don't just do it because we think its cool, do it because you wanted to as well. Take our suggestions into consideration but remember chances are we'll never probably meet so it doesn't matter if you get it or not because we'll never know.

Tattoos gross me out if I think about them long enough. But some are pretty cool so I can't truly knock them.

As for those saying about tattoos looking gross when your 50... I'm getting my triforce in a spot that won't stretch -- the back of my neck. Wrist tattoos, shoulder blade tattoos, or ankle tattoos usually don't stretch, either...
Although, the places that don't stretch are also the most painfull, since there's less muscle there. lol.

Honestly, if I were to get a tatoo, it'd be on the back of my neck. But, as it is, I have like NO pain tollerance. So, the only way I'd get one or two would be if I was profoundly drunk or on some really awsome pain killers. And I kinda like the idea of the <Hope...> thing. That's pretty cool.
I don't know what I'd get, though, if I were profoundly drunk or on pain killers. Maybe the "A" design. Though it would definately be on the back of my neck, right below the hair-line.

no. I meant the ones I read in the da vinci code, according to the book, there are older symbols. the male is ^ or a triangle with point up. the female is v or a triangle with point down (or in other words a heart).

Ah, that explains it. My friend asked me pretty much the same thing you asked earlier when I mentioned the talk of the tatoos and the HIM symbol. I haven't seen/read the Da Vinci Code.

Don't worry too much about the pain factor.
If you really don't wanna feel pain, don't do it where it causes pain (wrist for example)...
Mine is on my left shoulderblade. When she was making it, I was reading a book, and I didn't feel too much. When she finished, it burnt a little. But with the cream, it was ok.
During the next 2 weeks, it isn't easy to take a shower without put any water on it ;)
But, really, it's ok ^_^ Just don't think too much the tattoo-man do a million bites in your body ;)

Because you know in Heroes how some of them have the marks on their neck? The two little lines? Well I really want that as a tattoo.
I think I'll get that tattoo and the animorphs one.. but in a few years..
plus, I am hopefully going to continue to regularly donate blood, and you can't if you just got a tattoo.. so yea...
I watched someone get a tattoo on their back last year. A girl a year and a half older than me, and she said it hurt alot, but still it didn't look so bad..

She said it hurts?! On her back? Strange... One of my friend has a scorpion on his chest (near the tit ;) ) and he told me it didn't hurt... in fact with the skin who moved and quake, it was hard for him to not laught ^_^' But another friend told me he needed 3 times! to make his tattoo! And it wasn't a big one... mine must be 4 times bigger ^_^'
Maybe it hurts more some people than other...
I want one on my forearm (like the Mangemort, but different tattoo: a coral-snake in a pentagram), and the tattoo-man said it would hurt maybe... but my other tattoo didn't hurt, so this one must just hurt a little ^_^
About the tattoo of Heroes, I'd really prefer the sign of the sword... Yours is a good idea but... too little and too simple for me! ;)

If I got a tattoo it would be an idea my sister came up with, not Animorphs. Only because the one my sister thought of is really symbolic to me personally.
Still, and Animorphs tattoo would be neat. I'd have trouble deciding what to put though.

If I got a tattoo it would be something relatively small, most likely some kind of ancient symbol since i'm into ancient cultures and civilizations. I always thought the Celtic armband looked good^^...
Or if all else fails I could always tattoo Azguard somewhere on my body! :P (we just started RAF dating for anyone that doesn't know yet lol)

I think just <Hope....> is a great idea. It's subtle yet a great homage to the series. IF I got an Animorphs tattoo it'd be a hawk eye. It'd be my symbol of optimism (I'm being watched over), perserverance (as Tobias kept fighting even as just a hawk), and freedom.

Yes, I think <Hope...> is a good one. I agree with getting something subtle, nothing that screams Animorphs. I also like Esplin's idea of 9466 XD

I think it's a cool idea for a tattoo, Terenia. The text itself is not obvious and is open for interpretation. It is the '<>' that make a subtle signifier that Animorphs fans can identify.
It will be interesting to see what kind of randoms will come up to you and correctly guess. Hehehe.

I always thought a vampyr bite tat would look cool. Or a barcode Dark Angels style. You can also go with the inside cover of Mega-1. Or just a cube. Nothing else, it would look terrible, but would be sorta funny when people asked what it was.

If I ever got a tattoo it would be the outline of a wolf howling at the moon on my hip. Really small, though. That way, only people I wanted to see it could. Plus, I love wolves. An animorph one would be pretty awesome, though.

Many tattoo-artists think it's better to show it only to people we want. A hiden tattoo ;) But if I'd do that, nobody could see it ^^' What is the use? It's why I always want tattoo that everybody can see >< hahaha

Thats a fact. I always liked the idea of a wolf on my shoulder howling, but it wont happen. I hate needles.

the way i got over it is needles inject stuff into you tatt2s are more like a bunch of tiny lil stabs scrapin the skin and lettin the ink set into the scrape..... ^-^

I'm sooooo glad I'm not trypanophobic. That would make life so much more difficult. I have a friend who is, and she has to basically be tied down to get a shot.

Trypanophobic? Is that the irrational fear of needles? *Is too lazeh to google it* If so, then my dad falls under that category. And I'd hate to see the person who would have to try and tie my dad down...As it is, he's not the greatest when it comes to shots, but he doesn't really have to get them anymore.

It's really a mind over matter thing. With few exceptions, tattoos hurt more than piercings yet personally, I'd rather get a new tattoo than a new piercing. My tongue piercing didn't hurt at all, but just the thought of that huge sharp thing going all the way through my sensitive tongue didn't sit well.

I kind of want a nose stud, but I don't want to think about what I would have to do to get it. Plus, my parents would never go for it and even if I was 18, I would have no money to do it.

My eyebrow piercing hurt for about a second..... Tattoos seem like they'd hurt a bit more than that... :P

the <hope...> one is great too though.
oh, and i liked how you got the visser aligned with the '4'. very nicely done in paint.
