Title: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: wildweathel on April 29, 2009, 01:07:39 PM
http://rafaudio.nfshost.com/drupal

Simplest case: you're happy with your current username, you display your e-mail on your profile, and you've checked in to the cast list: just post
Quote
I'm in.

EDIT: Usenames may include letters, numbers, dot/period, dash, and underscore.  Thus, some RAF usernames may not work.  Sorry.

If you don't want to share your e-mail with everyone, please post here and PM your email to me.  That way, I don't forget about anyone.

If you usually use a username different from your current one (say, you've temporarily switched names with another RAFian), please say so to avoid confusion.

Finally, if you're not an actor, I'll have a signup thread real soon for non acting roles.

Now, let's get this party started!

(Hells yeah! Here we go!)

By the way, usernames can include:
Letters (case sensitive), numbers, dot, hyphen, underscore, and space.  This is slightly more restrictive than RAF.

Welcome, 'Mr. Guy 36' to Drupal.  You should receive a one-time login to your GMail account within a few minutes.  If not, let me know.

Wait, how do we register?
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: wildweathel on April 29, 2009, 07:06:02 PM
An admin has to add you. (currently only me.  Richard will be an admin once I add him.  I think I can grant permission to add users without granting the whole shebang, in which case I'll give that to Morf and Guy.)  Also, you need to pick a username with no punctuation except for .-_

Drupal doesn't like the ()

I'll add you as soon as you pick a name.

Signed in this morning and Drupal wants to be updated.

I installed 6.10 yesterday.  (minor frustration)

I'll add everyone once that's taken care of.

Update's done.  I'm getting better at this.  Only 45m downtime :)

Now adding people.

Added

Let me know if you don't get your email.

Also, added Terenia.

So when do we get the ball rolling on this? FYI you might have to shoot me a PM as a reminder. I sometimes forget to check the audiobook threads because I've been so busy/inactive lately. I check my PM's regularly though.

You might want to have RAF send you notifications when posts or new topics are made on important threads or boards.  Also have e-mail notifications sent to your e-mail.  That's what I've been doing and I have all e-mails from RAF automatically sorted to a seperate folder.

Still waiting to be added. I've got a bunch of lines ready...
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Terenia on June 27, 2009, 01:15:00 PM
I have a few lines ready myself, but I'm still not entirely sure how to navigate the site and submit lines.

*prods* I think we need to reboot efforts here a bit. Get people excited and involved. Maybe we should try and arrange a meeting in RAFchat between as many audiobook participants as possible? That way we could kind of go over things in a quicker, more efficient way and get the ball rolling...
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Mr. Guy36 on June 27, 2009, 06:01:34 PM
Weathel, morf and I just talked about the few things that need to be prepared before the site is running fully. We've been PMing each other alot, but really haven't been telling anyone else because it's a lot of random detail that nobody needs to know. The RAFchat is a good idea, or maybe Skype if everyone has it. I find it easier to discuss ideas with people out loud. Rest assured, though, we are working on it.

The answer for where to send lines right now is nowhere. There will be a whole system to distribute everything to the right people, so once that is running, you will be able to upload your lines to the site.
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: morfowt on June 27, 2009, 07:57:53 PM
in other words, for now, keep the lines on your computer and back them up unless you're willing to redo them on the chance that your computer crashes.

Yeah, guys, I'm sorry.  My bad.  The thing is I need to put in some serious work soon to make stuff happen.  Hopefully, once I've put in the activation energy self-organizing chain-reaction sort of way--

--wow, silly chemistry analogy.  I'll see what I can do Sunday, and definitely have time Monday; it's usually a bad idea for me to spend weekends on the computer.  (Silly parents...)

right, so that being said is the list of taken characters actually current? also I suggest a list of needed characters for anyone like me who has just found out about this and wants to contribute.
edit crap I just saw that it is in the cast list. However I have no idea if it is actually current because it hasnt been edited since August (not sure about the year)
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Serraph105 on December 09, 2009, 12:50:41 AM
If someone could sign me up for Marco's Dad that would be great. Also if Elfangor is up for grabs (the cast list says he is) I'll take him also because I think it would be great to have a more substantial part if only for a few books.

I would be willing to do other parts also so long as they don't interact with those two characters as I feel that would be far too obvious that the same person is talking.
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Darth Revan on December 09, 2009, 03:00:44 AM
Well, You should do a little audio editing to make Marco's Dad's voice sound older, and Elfangor will have the thought-speak effect, so it won't be too noticable.
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Slushie Man on December 09, 2009, 08:22:14 AM
I was thinking today that it would be cool, if alongside each released book, we can release a file that has various bloopers and such that we make while recording, for that book. I think that could be pretty funny and a nice little 'Bonus Feature' for each book.
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Darth Revan on December 09, 2009, 12:45:34 PM
That would be funny. So if we screw up a recording, save it and upload it to a special area?
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Slushie Man on December 09, 2009, 12:49:25 PM
If those in charge like the idea, then yeah.
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Kit Cloudkicker on December 09, 2009, 01:43:47 PM
It's a good idea, but would make for a lot more work.

Part of the problem that we have is that EVERYONE is willing to record, but no one is willing to help out with the managing and directing aspects of the project. Those are the parts that require significantly more work, and would be significantly easier and move the project along much more quickly if we had extra people helping. As of now, we really don't have any directors who are reviewing submitted lines, and Adam and I are trying to do all of the management portion on our own.

Until we have people who are willing to help out with these things, the project is going to continue to move forward VERY slowly. If anyone is interested in helping out with these aspects, let me know ASAP and we can set up some times where I can go over expectations and procedures with you.
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Serraph105 on December 09, 2009, 09:00:31 PM
I can help review lines to make sure they are correct but I probably can't edit them together.

We are working on MM1 at this time, and do not need anymore voice actors for this book. We've also set a requirement that anyone new to the project must be willing to help with directing/timing before they're allowed to put in for an acting role.

Awesome. What we need people to do is listen to the lines that have already been submitted, compare them to what is in the book to ensure that it is EXACTLY the same, and that the lines are intelligible. This is the director role.

The other role is timing, which is splicing all of the lines from different actors together in audacity. From there Guy will help with special effects. Please let me know what you're interested in, and pm me your e-mail address, and I will set up an account for you as soon as I can.
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: yunyun on February 05, 2011, 05:14:44 PM
both are fine, but for directing i might have too wait a while because my dad took away my animorph books for a month and most books i get from the library and if my dad finds out i have any animorphs books he is gonna get so mad...yeah, i could do it if e books work (i'm still gonna buy the re-release books though)
Title: Re: RAFaudio site sign-up
Post by: Kit Cloudkicker on February 05, 2011, 05:24:57 PM
Both jobs might be difficult then. You need the books for the timing job as well because you need to get the lines spliced together correctly in the order of the book. Let me know when you get your books and I'll set up an account for you. :)

would the e-books work because i know i downloaded mm1 since i never read it before, it seems ok, just some random numbers in certain places and it happens that the library doesn't have mm1(the last time i checked anyway) if e-books don't work then i guess that i could think of something...

we're still on mm1 right?i have book 8 though...i could do book 8,  my friend said that mm1 IS in the library the last time she checked...i'll check again

or you can just tell me when we do #8(the alien), i have that book

It will probably take us 10 years to get to #8. I'd be wary about using the e-books because they tend to not always be 100% correct. If you can get your hands on a copy from the library that be best!

I'll get mm1 in a month or so, it's my very early birthday present

lol at the current rate of 3 chapters a year (and yeah I'm being generous as the first chapter came out in December of 09) it will take you 12.3 years just to get through this book. And that calculation is probably too short considering Mr. Guy can't even get anyone on the team to record 6 words so he can get chapter 4 finished up. Quite frankly knowing all that information makes your post incredibly hilarious. book eight in 10 years *chuckles to self* so funny.

I'll some how let you know when I get the book, I think I'll just post again when I have which is I think sometime before march 24 (how long is shipping for eBay or amazon if you're in Canada ?)

Ebay, it all depends on where it comes from. I've had things arrive within a week, other times it's taken almost 3 or 4 weeks. Amazon is normally within a week or two, max.

At this time we are only looking for people to help with directing and timing. Roles are described below. If you are interested please PM me your e-mail address and desired user-name for the audiobook website.

Please let me know what you're interested in, and pm me your e-mail address, and I will set up an account for you as soon as I can.

just to let you know right now i doubt that i'll get the book since my mom thinks i read too much (which i do) and doesn't want to get me another animorphs book...i'l try a few libraries but i doubt that i'll find the book since the one i know that has the animorphs books don't have it but i'l still try. so if i can't get the book i'll either just help with #8 in 10 yrs or so (considering i still go on RAF then) or wait for them to sell MM1 in chapters or whatever if they will so yeah...i so  wish i could help though

Okay, so... I know that I'd signed up as a timer ages ago... I also know that I've pretty much done nothing up to this point. *fail* I've been having some trouble keeping track of what needs to be done, even with the site. Sometimes it's just a matter of forgetting to check, often for long periods of time. I mean, last time I checked, we had 2 chapters done, but 3 and 4 were nowhere near ready to be timed. Now it seems like 4 chapters are done.

So... I guess what I'm saying is that, I WILL forget to check this stuff. Right now there doesn't seem to be any timing related stuff going on, but when it does come up, I don't want to miss the chance to contribute. I don't suppose there's any way to get a PM reminder when this stuff comes up?

Jess and I are going to do some serious planning (once life isn't insane for both of us) and then we'll need all hands on deck. Part of that process will likely involve PM'ing everybody to make sure they can still work on this.

No. You couldn't miss the point more completely than you just did.

I find myself in a situation. As some of you know, I sent a PM asking people to reconfirm their commitment. Of 15 messages, I got 9 replies. I really don't want to kick so many people off the project

Alright, well all the principal characters are good to go. I took a look at "last active" dates for the people I'm missing, and most of them I think I can safely say won't be too upset with us continuing.
Here's how things should (hopefully) go:
The work for directors and timers will be much more divided up. As of now, I am technically the only timer...

Directors: you now have a handy to-do list like the actors have, informing you of which parts are ready for your attention. Once an actor has posted a part, you are responsible for downloading all pieces, ensuring there is adequate audio quality with no background interruptions, all lines are accounted for, and there is at least one clean take of each line.

Timers: (AniDragon, for now) I would like to try and skype with you sometime to go over the procedure in detail. Once a chapter has all parts approved by various directors, the timer will download all parts and assemble the chapter into a finished product. For now, I would prefer for all final chapters to go through me before they are posted.

I mentioned to Kit that I'd be interested in helping out as a timer, it seems I should check in with you as well.  I have experience with and access to audacity and adobe audition.  I can get started whenever I'm needed.

I think Mr. Guy is a little ticked off right now *calmly pats Mr. Guy softly on the back* but I'm sure we'll be able to kick people into gear.

I want to see this project to the end possibly beyond so I'm beginning to dedicate much of my time trying to be a better voice actor. I even went to the local library to see if they had any books on voice acting but nothing. Time to check the regional library!

Um... *raises hand* I would like to get in on this... I've read through the available cast listings, and I think I would do best as Dak, but only as my Batman Voice. It's because I don't sound anything like Chapman, Erek, Esplin, etc... um, so yeah. *moves forward shyly*

A while back Guy and I decided that  anyone who wishes to do a voice role in the project must first help with behind-the-scenes work such as timing or directing in order to show their commitment to the project. Please let me know which you're interested in and I will set you up for that before we discuss a voice role. :)

Hey, I think I'd like to join in. I could probably do Erek, and I'll see if I might be able to do an Elfangor? I doubt it, but if I could, that would really help get the ball rolling on this.

Hi Beal,

We're not accepting voice actors until they have showed their commitment to the project by either directing or timing a chapter. Please contact Mr. Guy36 by pm and he'll get you set-up if you're interested.
