Title: The Asylum
Post by: DinosaurNothlit on February 14, 2009, 03:17:57 PM
The Asylum was a large complex that had been built near Sacremento, California, and looked like a cross between a hospital, a psych ward, and a nursing home.  Sterile rooms, dull hallways, but at the same time, a few odd nick-nacks that made the place feel a little more like a home than most hospitals.  And that's because, for many creatures, that's what it was.  This was where the misfits of the galaxy were sent, those too hopeless to live on their own.  Andalite vecols, poor souls of various species who had been trapped in horrifying mid-morphs, Yeerks and Taxxons who for whatever reason couldn't gain the morphing technology, and even the odd mentally-unstable Leeran.  The misfits of the universe gathered here simply because there was nowhere else for them to go.

Living within these walls was a young female Andalite who seemed, at first glance, to be perfectly healthy.  Her name was Torashan-Kuirkell-Shralin, but most of the other patients here had simply shortened her name to Tora.  She didn't look like there was anything wrong with her, but she was still considered a vecol by her people.  You see, she had a mental condition that, while uncommon, was not unheard-of among Andalites.  Most Andalites have some psychic sensitivity, which allowed them to percieve and send thought-speak.  But Torashan had a version of schizophrenia that intensified and perverted this psychic ability, leading her to recieve any and all thoughts that came her way, not as spoken words, but as vivid hallucinations.  She could not distinguish the thoughts of those around her from reality.

She had been shunned from society, like most vecols on her home world.  But for her, that was not enough.  Andalites projected their thoughts too harshly for her fragile mind, their words like a painful cacophony of images to her warped perception.  So she was moved to earth, to live among humans, where their thoughts were just the slightest bit gentler.

Still, she'd had no idea how to take care of herself.  She wandered around in the countryside for a while, lost and confused, never knowing what was real and what wasn't, or where she was, or what she should be doing.  So she was eventually put in the Asylum, the one place where she might actually find some semblance of belonging.  Or at least, where she wouldn't hurt herself or anyone else.

At the moment, Tora was in a huge grassy courtyard surrounded by the brick walls of the Asylum building.  Everyone in the Asylum was here, the Andalites running on the grass while everyone else sat at picnic tables with trays of whatever their species ate.  It was lunch hour.  And Tora hated it.  The Asylum's wardens always herded everyone together to eat, and while the social time was good for most of the patients, it was all Tora could do to withstand it for the hour that it was required.  She stood off in a corner, away from the crowd, holding her head in her hands and rocking back and forth, as she ticked off the seconds and minutes until she could go back to her room where she could be alone again.

((Welcome to the Asylum.  ;)  Anyone is free to join!  You can play a warden or a patient, of any species you like, or perhaps even a canon character if you so desire, so long as there's a reason for whoever you play to be on earth and in the Asylum.  You can post your character descriptions in paragraph form as I have done, or in a list format, just be sure to include a) Your character's name b) their species and c) what they're doing in the Asylum))

Rules:

1.  No godmodding, powerplaying, or Mary Sues

2.  If playing a canon character, please stay accurate

3.  Try to write well, and preferably more than a sentence per post, but I'm not a huge stickler for grammar

4.  This last rule is probably the most important, so listen carefully . . . have fun!

Name: Zoshonel
Race: Howler
Reason for being there: One of the many Howlers left after book 26, who changed from wanting to kill to wanting to kiss. So he came to Earth to show Humans the passion of love. Unfortunately, as Howlers can be intimidating, the police were called and he eventually wound up in the Asylum. Diagnosed with a mental instability that causes him to want to make out, and make love to, anything that moves.

(How is that?)

Zoshonel woke up in a white room with padded walls. He was somewhat depressed that the Humans had put him here. They did a psyche evaluation and found him to be a danger to himself and others. He didn't even know what that meant. Many Humans fled from him, but he once found a place where Human females would kiss him in exchange for Human currency. Mostly green, decorated paper. With all the recent aliens showing up after the Yeerk forces were defeated, his appearance hadn't been overly shocking.

He told the law enforcers that the last woman he kissed was enjoying it, but they still sent him here and gave him medication. They wouldn't let him leave, but since he needed a place to stay anyway, he didn't fight too hard to get out. The nurse that brought him food kept talking about wanting to remain professional when he asked if they could kiss. He didn't know what that meant either.

Name: Darren
Race: Changeling
Reason:  Interdimensional criminal and conman who is now in hiding as a warden in the Asylum.  His training and abilities allow him to become who he needs to be and create personas when he needs to.  At this moment, he is hiding at the center.  His premise is that nobody would suspect him to live with the misfits of the galaxy.

(think "The Pretender", but not as noble.)

((Interesting.  Is "changeling" a race, or a profession?  IE, did your character naturally have this ability, or did it come about through technology?

Oh, and post whenever you like.))

Zoshonel was allowed outside of his room for exercise. There was a large grassy area with a bunch of different aliens. They had several different things to exercise with, and he went to the jungle gym. climbing around on the bars felt pretty good after being cooped up in the room. He also ate some meat. He also flirted with some people, but was scolded for it by the same nurse that was in his room before.

((Race from star wars actually.  Zam Wessel, the assassin from episode two was one.))

Darren walked from room to room, handing out medication and monitoring several patients.  He smiled a bit, thinking how several of the more hyperactive patients had had their medication swapped out with sugar pills.  The place was overmedicating anyway.  He knew he wouldn't get caught because he had swapped the bottles and not dosages.  several other nurses and wardens would get the heat, it might be him too since medication delivery was usually decided randomly according to whoever annoyed the boss the most.  Today would be a fine day.

(May I add characters later on?)

Name: Damien Marce and Lispion 3124
Race: Human/Yeerk
Reason: He was one of the few humans who had received the morphing technology while he was a controller. Ironically his yeerk was apart of the yeerk peace movement. The morphing technology affected his body strangely causing him and the yeerk to blend into one being. His yeerk was unable to leave Damien's body and had lost the need for Kadrona Rays. To other people this has caused him to have 'multiple personalities', when he tried to explain no-one believe him since his three-day limit for Lispion was over. He is still able to morph but the process has became painful instead of the normal painless morphing, the only good thing that has came out of this is that he is able to surpass the two-hour limit for morphing. He is still just a teen and is currently age 16. He lives in the asylum with his pet husky, Blizzard, who had somehow became sentient after the yeerks were defeated. Damien and Lispion suspect it has something to do with the the morphing technology. He is sometimes spotted talking to his dog.

Name: Blizzard
Race: Husky
Reason: He had became sentient after the yeerks had left in defeat. He can communicate in thought speak but only communicates with Damien and is well aware of Damien and Lispion's situation. The only reaosn he is at the asylum is because Damien didn't wouldn't go willingly without Blizzard.

"I don't want any medicine." Zoshonel said when the warden came to deliver it. "Medicine implies that I am ill, and I'm not. So I don't want any."

He doubted the medicine did anything, and one dose actually made him hyper. He didn't trust it. He wanted out, but he also felt sorry for many people who were inside. He felt that their lives must be sad.

(I forgot to add the part about Damien's husky and was adding while you posted...)

Damien walked slowly through the grass with Blizzard. <I wish I kept my big mouth shut about sharing a mind and body with oyu Lispion,>Damien said inside his head,<then we would have to spend out time in this place, I want to go home...>

<I honestly don't know how to respond to that...>replied Lispion,<And oyu mean we should have ept your big mouth shut, I could have stopped you>he teased.

<Yeah, yeah, you had to rub that in huh?>Damien muttered. Blizzard just seemed to ignore the two even though he could pick up on their conversation. <...Lets go get something to eat, deffintly not coffe, for some reaosn I"m already jittery.>

<Yeah taking medication for something you don't have does that to you,> Lispion reaplied.

Torashan watched Zoshonel with a curious stalk eye.  He was a newcomer here, she knew.  She'd never seen a real Howler before, only the ones that came from the minds of others.  Of course, it was entirely possible that this one, too, was just another figment of someone's imagination.  Normally, that would have been Tora's assumption, but there was something that told her that he was real.

And that something was the multitude of images that had flooded into Tora's field of vision the moment Zoshonel had come within range.  It was like he remembered things that . . . no, no living creature could hold that many memories.  He must be one of those species with a collective conscious.  But one image seemed to dominate above the rest.  Standing in front of Tora, as plain and as detailed as if they were really there, were a pair of humans, a tall boy with brown hair, and a short, black girl.  They were doing what humans called 'kissing.'

Tora watched the pair of hallucinatory humans for a while, interested.  She'd never seen a kiss before, but somehow the emotion behind it was plain to see.  They were in love.  Was the Howler in love, too, Tora wondered?  And if so, what was he doing in a place like this?  This prison was no place for lovers.

Tora saw Damien walk by, and looked away from him, moving off towards the other end of the courtyard.  Tora had occasionally seen him during meal times before, and she didn't like him.  She didn't know him all that well, but she simply didn't want to be around him.  Not only was he a controller, which was automatically a strike against him for any Andalite, but his thoughts were the interconnected thoughts of two different individuals, and that duality of mind was often painful for Tora to experience.  So she stayed away from him.

Which just happened to bring her closer to the Howler.  At this range, his memories were overwhelming, but Tora managed to put up with it.  Her curiousity overcame her fear, and she said, <Are you real?> just as one might talk to a figure in a dream.

Damien glanced at his right and noticed an andalite. For some reason she always seemed pained and confused whenever he came even close to her... no wait... anyone, he wished he knew what was wrong with the andalite but noticed that see seemed to avoid him.

<She knows you're a controller,>Came a new thought speak, almost as if it had read his mind. Damien glanced down at his pet, he was looking back with intelligence in his eyes.

"Don't do that, its creepy, almost like you can read our mind,"Lispion said using Damien's mouth. Damien was mentally exhausted, he didn't know why, maybe he really was becoming insane. He was about to pass out, that is why Lispion took control. "Something is wrong with Damien," Lispion told Blizzard, the husky.

<Could it be the medication?> asked Blizzard tilting his head the way dogs seem to do. <Drugs have different effects on different people, and considering he doesn't need it and he has became fused with a yeerk it could be having unseen effects on his mind...>

Lispion sctached his/Damien's chin,"It could be... I have a feeling it is somethign else... anyway I'm going to go get somehting to eat for us,"Lispion muttered meaning him and Damien. "Be right back," and with that Lispion jogged towards the food area.

Blizzard nodded and glanced towards the andalite and howler, they sparked his curiosity, slwoly he rotted towards them, being careful to appear as awandering pet dog. He wanted to know why a perfectly healthy looking andalite, and a creature that appeared to be made out of lava, were doing here.

"Yeah, I'm real." Zoshonel said to the Andalite. He placed a hand gently on her cheek. Touching an Andalite's face with a hand was how they kissed, which he had learned from another Howler through their collective thoughts. "What are you doing here? You don't seem to be all there. You and other must be lonely, cooped up in here and not be let out." He took his hand away after speaking.

Darren stood far off, well hidden in a tree.  None of them were acting much stranger than usual, in fact, nothing was.  "This is boring, all that risk and no reward."  He put his binoculars into his pocket and hopped down from the tree.  He glanced at the howler and andalite.  "She reads mind and I still don't know if I can block that, don't want to reveal my hand too soon anyway.  Guess it's the dog and the boy today."  He muttered to himself and strolled towards them.

(To who? Damien/Lispion or Blizzard, they walked away from each other)

Blizzard sat down and gazed at the howler and the andalite. He could hear the howler perfectly form this distance, but he was afraid he wouldn't be able to hear the andalite since they used thought speak.

Lispion continued walking, Damien was fast asleep in his subconscious, his mind remained blank, no dreams. this worried Lispion, usually Damien's conscience is quiet active in his sleep. Something was definitely wrong. <Damien,> he tried calling out to him. No response, why would there be? He needed to get to people who would believe him and quickly. And everyone here thought he was crazy. But how? Morphing? No, there was no place to morph without being noticed... A worried look spread across his face, Damien could be dieing and he wouldn't know. of course Lispion always had the flaw of being over dramatic, he should just try calming down.

Lispion's looked up at Darren the worried looked fading a little. "N-no... I mean yes!,"he said quickly not making sense even to himself,"I mean... you wouldn't understand, or believe me if I explained it,"he continued and rubbed his forehead,"Or just think I"m crazy like everyone else here..heck I might even be crazy and not know it..."he seemed to be talking to himself and became aware of Darren's presence again,"uh... I'm as fine  as I can be in this wacky place." he said shaking his head. "So.. uhm.. anyway, why are you here?"

"I work here.  I'm just checking up on the patients, it seems somebody swapped out some of the medication for sugar or caffeine pills, it's weird.  Have to make sure nothing too crazy happens.  Wish it would though.  Nobody here is really crazy like I expected.  I started her to help but everyone is borderline normal.  You shouldn't be here, the andalite shouldn't be here, and your dog definately should be somewhere he can show off."  Darren shrugged.  "It's like they pulled all the interesting people off the street and made them boring."

"We're not turning Blizzard into a freak show, even if we had the chance,"Lispion growled meaning both himself and Damien and soon realized his mistake,"I mean... I'm not..." He shook his head,"Besides, why wouldn't they put me in here, I"m a freak that think he has another living being in his head!"For some uncontrollable reason Lispion felt himself becoming angry and soon realized it was Damien's anger. He took a deep breath. Wait a minute... "How did you know about Blizzard? You said he should be somewhere where he could show off... what do you mean by that exactly,"he said suspiciously. "Are you spying on the patients here?"

Tora pulled back from Zoshonel's hand, confused and startled.  Among Andalites, that gesture was reserved for those that were deeply in love.  You would never touch another's face unless you meant it.  What was this Howler doing, stroking her like that?

After a stunned pause, Tora finally put the pieces together.  Her first reaction was disbelief.  This Howler was in love with her?!  Why?  How?  They were from different species!

It simply didn't make sense.  And things that didn't make sense . . . tended not to be really there.

<I think you're lying,> Tora sighed, sounding disappointed.  <You're not real.  You can't be real.  And there's really no point talking to you if you're not.  You'll just disappear.  Like all the others.> the Andalite said sadly.  <Sorry.  Um, nothing personal.  I'm just sick of losing friends that way.>

Lispion laughed hollowly,"Yeah right,"he muttered and turned away from Darren,"Just leave me alone, I'm already high strung already I don't need any extra help form you."

Blizzard took a few steps closer two the andalite and the howler. <I think you may have upset her howler,> he said simply and sat down yet again. His mind could somehow pick up on private thought speak, the same happened with Lispion and Damien's conversation. Blizzard still kept his distance from the two. He focused on Tora but was careful to keep his thoughts to himself, he was somewhat aware of her mental ailment and didn't want to upset her further with his thought speak. These two really made him curious.

Darren shrugged.  "At no point did I say I was going to help.  I simply said I'm here to spy on you.  I honestly don't care about..."  He paused for a moment and looked up.  "You're the yeerk kid.  You have one in your head but you don't.  I read your file, but you aren't one of mine.  This makes things much more complicated.  Do you smoke?  Or maybe it was the dog."
Title: Re: The Asylum

"I honestly have no idea what you're talking about, other than my 'yeerk'"Lispion growled,"and I do not smoke, I value being able to run and not run out of breath and I'm not about to fall into that gross habit, and Blizzard can't smoke, he is a dog,"he continued and began to walk away,"Oh and it isn't considered spying if you tell them about it,"he called over his shoulder.

(Mind if I add someone who works for Darren?)

Name: Mark
Race: 'Werewolf'
Reason for being there: He is a 20 year old ordinary human. Or until he came in contact with morphing technology. The first morph he has ever received was the wolf morph. Unfortunately he had passed the two hour limit and tried morphing back. He got stuck half morph, a perfect blend of human and wolf DNA. He had became an anamorphic wolf, a werewolf if you will. In a desperate attempt he tried receiving the morphing technology yet again. it worked, somewhat. He can now change between his human form and his 'werewolf' form. He began working for Darren out of boredom and because the majority of people shunned him from society.

"That didn't go so well did it?" came a raspy voice form the shadows of a building. Two yellow canine eyes glared at Darren from the shadows.

"I was just being friendly." Zoshonel said. He assumed the dog was a morphed andalite, but wasn't sure why he was morphed. "I think she doesn't believe I'm real. How do I prove to a delusional girl that I'm real?"

He started going over the connected memories of his people. He looked over the way the Humans interacted. Then something else came up. It was something he hadn't done in a while. Blood dripping from his claws, and the death moans of the helpless being as his eyes dulled. But that memory was blurred and fractured. It made him uncomfortable. He noticed his claws were unsheathed, and he stared at them like he was unfamiliar with him. Then he remembered he wasn't alone in the room, and composed himself.

"Uh...so what's your name? Mine is Zoshonel." He said to the dog.

Okay here goes,

Name: Taxi (more of a nickname his regular name is not pronounceable)
Race: taxxon nothlit/ jaguar
Bio: he used to be a guard at the taxxon reservation. he took a jaguar morph and eventually was trapped as a jaguar but just as he was morphing back one of his red taxxon eyes emerged but were smaller than usual he actually managed to keep his job but eventually was admitted to the asylum.
Personality: He dosen't miss his taxxon body infact he loved the jaguar's agility and speed. He really hates being confined and has tried to get out more than a dozen times. Because of this he is considered one of the more toublesome patients.

((Welcome to the roleplay, Galladerotom!))

Blood.  Oh god.

Blood.

Blood and death.

Tora closed her eyes, her breathing quickening, trying desperately to block out the image of the dying creature that Zoshonel had just remembered.  She could see it, her vision blurring when she looked at it, but she could see it and hear it and smell it and oh god it was bleeding and dying and its eyes, its eyes were clouding over with that hideous blank stare of the dead.  Oh god.  She took a few steps back, trying to get away from it.  Closing her eyes had done no good, she could smell the hideous stench of blood and death.

<Stop it.  Stop it.  GET AWAY!> she suddenly shrieked in very public thought-speak.  A few of the newer patients looked around, but most of the veterans of the Asylum paid no mind to Tora’s voice.  Such outbursts, while annoying, were fairly typical of the Andalite during the lunch hour.

Tora was shaking, backing up like she was getting ready to run, but she moved like a trapped animal.  For she knew that these hallucinations followed her, they always did.  She could never get away.  It was pointless to run.

Tora could hear Blizzard’s thought-speak, though intended to be private, just as if he were speaking directly to her.  For once, though, she was happy to be receiving another's thoughts.  His voice gave her something to focus on, something other than the horror of the Howler’s memories.  <Randomly?> she asked curiously, though her voice still sounded very much shaken by what she‘d just seen.  <You mean he’s done this to others?>

Taxi
He was tearing appart the quarters he had nearly finished. When he saw an Andalite was in distress. He looked around none of the guards were helping her. He was disgusted back at the reserve if something happened like anti-alien fanatics came to the amazon, or loggers, or even if one of the local villegers lost a kid they helped to put things right. It was the law of the land that human quote he so remebered "ask not what the people can do for you but what you can do for the people" or something like that. So he put the meat in the cooler and headed up to Tora. "<Relax, imagine you are in a quiet forest the soil beneth your hooves the quiet drip of a slow rain. All is well.>"

Zoshonel thought over what Blizzard had said. Then he heard the andalite scream, and looked around to see why she was so frightened. She cried for something to get away from her, but the closest people to her were ignoring her. He ran to them, and told the to get away.

"What are you going to do if we don't? Kiss us?"

He unsheathed his claws, bared his fangs, and made a loud hissing noise. That got them going. Soon the orderlies were coming, and he ran away from them. He knew if he acted up too much, they'd stick him with a needle and put the jacket on him again.

Darren was getting bored with it all.  The andalite was having a breakdown again, nothing new there.  The howler was running around doing whatever it was he did, and the dog never did anything exciting.  He wondered if the cute nurse from one of the other wards was hanging around.  He needed excitement.

He looked at the guards. "<You probably blame me for this. Don't you look I am just trying to help. Oh those guys oh good so I am not in trouble>" the guards surrounded the howler and the boy.
Taxi looked at the andalite she was a bit more calm now. The guards were destracted. Tree by the wall could he jump it? Only one way to find out. He made a mad dash to his gateway to the outside world.

"I didn't do anything." Zoshonel said to the orderlies that surrounded him. He had a headache, and wasn't sure why. Memories shifted between beautiful scenes to creatures in love, and bloody scenes of carnage. Kill. Kiss. Kill. Kiss. Kill. Kill. Kill.

The orderlies took aim with tranquilizer guns, and fired. Zoshonel screamed in confusion. "KEEEEEEeeeeerow..." Then he collapsed.

He woke up later in his room. He was groggy, and his arms were bound by the straightjacket. He was alone. "I think something is wrong with me." He muttered nervously.

<RELAX, IMAGINE YOU ARE IN A QUIET FOREST THE SOIL BENEATH YOUR HOOVES THE QUIET DRIP OF A SLOW RAIN.  ALL IS WELL.>  To Tora, the Taxxon-nothlit's words were a combination of deafeningly loud thought-speak and bright images and sensations.  While the images were obviously meant to be calming, they were too strong, too sudden, and the voice hurt Tora's head.  <Please.  Don't,> she whimpered softly, her hands over her ears.  She knew he was trying to help, but she wasn't sure how much of his 'help' she could take.

Suddenly, Tora heard a loud hissing noise.  She looked up, through the illusory trees and rain that Taxi's words had conjured up for her, and saw Zoshonel frightening some of the other patients.  What?  What was going on?  What was he doing?

Unsurprisingly, the guards came quickly.  As they surrounded the Howler, a barrage of visions suddenly enveloped Tora.  The entire courtyard had disappeared.  It was replaced by a dizzying montage of places and things, wars, bodies piled high, intermixed with beautiful scenes full of tender emotion.  It was like a movie trailer, rapidly shifting scene to scene.  Each landscape would simply change to another in the blink of an eye.

Right before the end, a startlingly loud noise broke through Tora's hallucinations.  "KEEEEEEeeeeerow..."  It hurt her head in a different way than before, this was a physical pain.  She covered her ears again, but at that point the sound was gone.

Then the three-dimensional psychic slide show was over, and the courtyard came back.  Tora was standing exactly where she had been before.  The Howler was unconscious; that had to be why the visions had stopped.  <So you were real,> Tora said wonderingly.

<Mind reading is a pain isn't it?> Blizzard asked quietly walking next to the young andalite. <As you may know by now that howler has conflicting memories in his head, one of love, and many of pain, death, and suffering, made that much more worse by its species collective memory...> he made his thought speak as gentle as possible. <It is amazing what you cna pick up with super sensitive ears and mind,> he continued all the while trying to confort Tora with gentle relaxing images. <It must be hard for you...>

Freaks! Nothing but freaks!

A lot had changed after the war. Dannika knew that. But this? She signed on the the Asylum to help people. And what were these things? Freaks. Dannika's white runners scuffed at the ground on her way out of Rowan's room. Just another freak, though a human one. Rowan was one of the few humans at the Asylum. The girl was a controller during the war, one of the hardest hit. Her former Yeerk, Estern 372 was a well-known name in the galaxy. A torturor. From what Dannika had heard about the slug, Rowan was lucky to be somewhat functional. The girl could be completely normal one minute, then fly off into an episode. Gave the staff a run for their money. Dannika punched her security code into the wall by the girl's door. Rowan was sleeping inside. Giving the patch on Rowan's arm a quick check, Dannika woke the girl and took her outside. Rowan was given the morphing power as a controller. The BioCheck patch had to be in proper working order at all times, it monitered any time the girl's DNA was altered and tracked her location. A few months ago, she became a fruit fly during her outside time. All the staff could do was wait for her to demorph... Dannika cursed under her breath. Freaks!
An orderly passed Dannika a tray, filled with small cups. Medication time. Tora was closest. "Tora!" Dannika bent down with a cup filled with pink, sticky liquid. "Hoof."

{OOC: So I've got Danni and Ro. Feel free to interact with Ro, I was going to play as her in this post as well, then thought I'd leave it till next time. I'm really hoping for her to talk to Tora}

He was about to jump freedom at last. Then he looked back everyone was calming down. Then several volts went through him. Fell to the ground. He looked up. "You're losing your touch taxi boy. Saw you go off like a rocket you lazy son of a..." That was it! This southern accented moron was not going to be smiling much longer. They put a muzzle on him. It was degrading and depressing. He was back out during lunch and exercise time after that day, but he had to wear a muzzle in case he started screaming again. He watched everyone while sitting on a bench, feeling dejected. He was currently going over some memories that past egenerations had done. A species called Pamalites playing with their Chee in wonderful cities and woodlands. It was serene and peaceful. He would go over some images, then rewind and go over them again. He always stopped before a certain point. The point before everything fell apart.

Something was wrong with him. He didn't know how to fix it, or if this place could even give him the help he needed. This realization scared him. He wasn't having much fun anymore. He saw the Andalite girl again. She seemed so fragile and alone. Maybe that's why he was drawn to her. The other people had friends they always spent time with. They had small groups. She and he didn't have any groups. They only had themselves.

((Welcome, agentAK!))

Blizzard's voice, while gentler than most, still stung Tora's delicate mind.  <You speak as one who knows what it's like,> she said softly, but stiffly, almost bitterly.  As if she resented the idea that a dog could think it understood her.

She looked as if she might go on, however she was interrupted when Dannika came around with medications.  Tora hated her medication, but knew quite well by now that it was pointless to resist taking it.  She obligingly stuck her hoof into the pink liquid, feeling it slide thickly up her leg.  It felt disgusting, and Tora had never felt like it even made a difference.

In a way, Tora was glad.  There was a part of her that didn't want the medication to work.  As terrible as her visions often were, there was a part of her that didn't want to find out how much of what she saw and heard and felt was actually real.  As long as she was crazy, she could tell herself that none of this might be real.  She might not be in some freak-show mental institution at all.  She might even still be at home.  She might be in her familiar scoop, living with parents who still loved her . . .

She closed her eyes and shook her head, drawing a shaky breath as she tried to pull herself away from those depressing thoughts.  When she looked around again, she saw playful, doglike creatures and canine androids running around, having fun.  She watched them curiously, purposefully distracting herself so that she wouldn't have to think about all the 'could-have-beens' of her life.

<Hello, I'm back,> Blizzard said walking behind Lispion/Damien,<Is Damien still out?> he asked.

Lispion turned around to face the dog and frowned,"Unfortunately... yes, I haven't been able to wake him up at all, something is seriously wrong, I feel so alone without him... maybe we should-" he was cut off, pain struck his face. He grabbed his head and fell to his knees and screamed. His thoughts became messy, blurred, and unreadable even to him.

<Whats happening!?>Blizzard asked frantically and rushed over to Damien's side. He began barking to get someone's attention. Almost instantly a human gaurd ran over and grabbed Lispion dragging him to his feet. Lispion offered no resistance since he was soon out cold.

Blizzard stared with dread, this never happened before, what was wrong with those two!?

Mark grabbed Taxi from behind and held on tight. He wrapped one hand around his neck and sqeezed,"Let go,"he growled. He wasn't in his human form since he didn't have a death wish.

Zoshonel noticed a Human giving medication to the Andalite. She didn't seem to like it. Neither did he, and he turned away from it. At first he disliked it because he was certain he wasn't ill. Now he wasn't so sure. Unless the medication was what was making him ill! He didn't remember having this problem before he came here. This place was making him ill. He got up and tried to leave the room, but the guards wouldn't let him. He didn't want anymore medicine. He wanted out! He tried to find a place to hide. He needed to escape from this place.

Taxi
He let go. He did not want to hurt a patient. It was the guards he hated they in his opinion weren't guards but, enforcers.
The patients were the people under siege the only ones that really needed to stay were the mental ones. Too many physically challenged were traped some weren't even challenged why that werewolf could survive easily. Even among the mentally challenged some could get along in the right conditions that andalite could easily lived at yosemite or canada.
"<Okay! Alright!>" he let go as an afterthought to the howling guard. "<Think about that next time you send a 1,000 volts through me.>"

Five minites later he was in a straight jacket in solitary. "<This place is enough to make you go crazy.>" he said to himself.

Taxi
They sent a psychiatrist in. He was an older human aged nearly sixty years. "I am Dr. Fransis. It is nice to meet you." "<How the heck do you manage saying that with a striaght face. I am in a freaking straight jacket and besides I am not a looney.>". The doctor continued "Since your taxxon name is unpronouncable I will call you taxi. Short for taxxon I assume." "<Yeah but it is mostly the fact that when I first entered the guard I ferryed children back and found them if they got lost. Thus Taxi.>" "Anyway on to buisness. Why did you bite the guard?" "<He shocked me.>" "Could you be a bit more specific?" "<I was pissed at him I was just laying in a tree when he volted me.> the doctor raised an eyebrow. "Laying?" "<Alright I was escaping. I hate it here. Logicaly I am still perfectly fit. I got shiped here because of some stupid law.>" "You have tried to escape twelve times before and you frequently have confrentations with guards. I believe you have trama issues do to your past life as a taxxon." "<Well I would if knew what I did my life back then I don't recall it that well the first memory I have is the speech Jake Berenerson made.>"

The Psycologist asked some more questions then he went off. They let Taxi out after they fitted him with an electric colar. "<Honestly,>" He said as he walked away "<it took you guys this long to come up with this?>"

Zoshonel saw the cat with weird eyes. He had heard that one had made several escape attempts. Maybe he could help. When no one else was around, he went to him.

"Hey. I'm Zoshonel. I want out like you. This place is doing weird stuff to my mind. I know you're kind of a failure at getting out, but maybe we could try together. Yes?" He said, while looking nervously around. He hoped the cat could understand him clearly, since he wasn't able to wrench the muzzle off.

He went to his room pacing. How to escape. Distraction? too obvious. Power outage? No tried to do that the first time, maybe in cojunction. Wait, what about would it work yes maybe if. Yes they would need a few things but it would work a few others and yes. It would be just like his first battle in the forest...

"Okay, the intruders have surrounded the area basicly. Groups three and four attack this point right here. Fight tooth and nail for it the those terrorists will notice if it's a decoy. If we can lure most of them here and here then the others can surround them with the villager millitia."

... seperated but united afterall they outnumbered the guards by three to one at least. It would work.

It wasn't until the doglike creatures disappeared that Tora took note of what was going on around her.  A sudden dizzy spell overcame her . . . or was it a hallucination?  Whatever it was, the world suddenly looked blurred and strange.  But it was over almost as soon as it began.  And the funny thing was, the change in Tora's vision had precisely corresponded with a scream from Damien's direction.  However, as soon as the Andalite turned a stalk eye to notice the now-unconscious controller, she realized who it was that had screamed, and, with a disdainful sniff, decided that she didn't care.

But, as she had been looking for the source of the sound, she had happened to spot Zoshonel talking to Taxi.  She didn't know why, but the Howler intrigued her.  She knew she should stay away from him.  He was confused, his thoughts a mess, and thus he was dangerous to her.  But . . . he was real, and he had seemed to care about her.  More than care, even.  He had stroked her.  And that was enough to make him as attractive to the attention-starved Andalite as a candle to a moth.

Tora's hyper-sensitive mind could easily hear Taxi's thought-speak, and therefore knew that he and Zoshonel had been talking about escaping.  Her hearts leaped at the thought.  Escape!  Back to a simple life, running through fields and forests, without a soul to bother her.  Oh, so long had she been in this prison, she had almost forgotten the beauty of the outside world!

Tora made a mental note of what Taxi had said, about meeting in the attic the next day after lunch.  She would be there.

The next day Zoshonel tried to remain calm. He tried not to think too much about the escape plan, for fear of word getting out. He also tried not to act suspicious or crazy. He had a nightmare the night before. Some voice in the background kept saying the word kill over and over. In the dream he went on a rampage, killing creatures he had killed in real life. He woke up sweating and startled. He didn't know what he was anymore.

He sat on the bench and tried to clear his mind. He tried not to think about anything, which was hard for one with a child-like mind. He wondered why some people didn't like affection. The Human he kissed before liked what he did, as long as he gave her Human currency. Was that it? People like to be payed for affection on this planet? Was that why the Andalite, whose name he discovered was tora, was put off by his touch? Should he give her something?

He wondered if he should tell her about the plan. But no. Even though she was often as far away from people as she could get, it was too risky. so he just continued meditating on the bench during lunch.

Damien and Lispion awoke at the same time, they found themselves laying on a bed in their room. Sunlight shone from the window directly on their face. "What happened?"Damien asked groggily and sat up, his vision was blurred and he could hear a constant ringing.

<Well,>Came a voice from next to the bed. Blizzard lifted his head off his front paws, he appeared to be sleeping,<First you passe dout mentaly leaving Lispion alone in your body, then he suffered a strange migrain and passed out. You were in medical care and now you're here... the doctors detected nothing wrong with you...>

"Something is happening to us, and we need to getout of here before this place makes it even worse... or it is the cause of these incidents,"Lispion said taking over temporarily, Damien has gotten quiet used to this and it was easier than repeating everything he said so Blizzard could hear.

<My thoughts exactly, that is why we need to get in touch of the 'patient' who tried to escape right after you had left, we might be able ot help each other out,> Blizzard said bluntly and stood up on all fours, beginning to walk out of the room Damien/Lispion followed.

<Oh Damien, I forget, which morphs do you have...?>

Rowan sat on the ground, picking the at the grass with her hands. Growing bored with her impromptu gardening session, Ro went off in search of companions. Hmm.... She thought, turning her attention towards the Andalite. The female could have been about Ro's age, but it was so hard to tell sometimes...What was the her name? Names were such a funny thing. Why did it matter what her name was? She was her. Without the name, she was still her. This was a lesson that took the doctors years to teach Ro. One of the first things Estern would do is to take his hosts' names from them.

Tora. That's it. Rowan made eye contact with the Andalite's main eyes.

Zoshonel started leaving after lunch period. For some reason he looked back at Tora. He felt that there was something ebtween them, but he didn't know what. It was stupid to think, since they hardly knew each other. Some one was talking to her.

"Bye Tora!" He called out whith one hand raised. Then he left for the attic. When he got there, he noticed Blizzard and someone else was there.

Tora looked at Rowan, as though simply waiting for her to go on.  She gave no indication that she believed the girl was crazy, even though someone else, somewhere else, could have easily thought so.  Maybe the girl was real, and maybe she wasn't.  But in either case, a repetition of her name as a greeting was hardly the oddest way that Tora had ever met someone.

<Actually, my name is Torashan-Kuirkell-Shralin,> she corrected casually when the girl was done speaking, simply making idle conversation with her.  Might as well.  She could be real, after all.  <But they tend to shorten my name here.  What is "Japan"?>

Then, Tora happened to spot Zoshonel waving to her, and her main eyes widened, as though she had suddenly remembered something.  <Oh!  The meeting!> she exclaimed, then took off after the Howler.

Tora was hardly ten feet away when she paused, suddenly lost in apparent indecision.  After a moment, she shrugged, a gesture she'd picked up from the few humans she knew, and called out to Rowan <Hey, um, you want to try to help us escape from here?>  It wasn't at all like Tora to invite a near-stranger to come along with her to something like this, but she had realized that, if they were truly going to try to get out of this place, they might need all the help they could get.

((This should be interesting.  I agree, let's just wait and see how this plays out.  Psychos on the run would be fuuuuun.))

<Alright then.  Follow me,> Tora said to Rowan, and began to make her way to the attic.

As she approached the attic, the hallways of the Asylum around Tora were suddenly replaced with the dank walls of the tunnels that ran underneath.  She sighed in annoyance, but fortunately she knew the area where she was well enough that she could find her way to the attic anyway.  She moved slowly, knowing that if she walked into a wall in her hallucinating state, she wouldn't even be able to feel it.

And she recognized the area that she was seeing around her, as well.  She'd been there a couple times, and even before she'd ever been there, she had seen the Asylum's underground tunnels.

Tora knew this facility better than anyone else ever could, for she could literally see it through the wardens' minds.  Anywhere anyone else had ever been, or thought about, she knew.  And, as she had come to realize the previous day, this would make her a very valuable asset to any escape attempt.

Tora's vision cleared, and she saw Zoshonel and Taxi, already discussing escape plans.  She stepped cautiously into the attic, her stalk eyes on the lookout for trouble, as if expecting an attack at any moment.

She was afraid.  She knew she could not afford to be caught.  If she tried to escape, and failed . . . well, that had happened once before, actually.  All it took was once, and Tora was too afraid to try again for years afterward.  The Andalite was altogether too easy to punish, even to torture.  All one had to do was think of something painful, and Tora would be wracked with all-too-real pain.

Tora shivered, remembering that terrible day, the last time she had tried to escape.  But she forced those thoughts out of her head.  She wouldn't fail this time.

((BTW, for future reference, try not to assume that someone is already somewhere when they haven't actually gotten there yet . . . ))

Tora listened carefully to Taxi's plan.  It was a good plan.  Those tunnels had always been a weak point.  They never put very many guards in there.

<Six o' clock is the best time to do anything,> Tora pointed out.  <That's when they change the guard, and usually the day shift leaves early or the evening shift is late, so we often get a few minutes with fewer guards.  Plus, that's also when supper is served, so whatever guards are actually on time are occupied guarding the other patients.>  It wasn't until she was done speaking that she noticed that Zoshonell was gone.  <Or . . . you know, noon is a good time, too,> she said hesitantly.  She sighed.  She wanted to make absolutely sure this was done right.  A good escape plan needed not to be rushed.  But maybe Zoshonell was right.  Maybe it was better to just get going with this.

Tora headed towards the basement.  She tried to act disoriented, like she didn't know where she was, so that any guards that saw her wouldn't question why she was going to the basement.  Her tactic seemed to work.  None of the guards gave her so much as a second glance.  She descended the stairs, and then headed to the northwest side of the dark, concrete basement.  She opened an inconspicuous-looking trapdoor in the floor, in which there was a ladder leading down to one of the smaller side tunnels.  Awkwardly, she descended.  Andalites absolutely were not made for climbing ladders, but she'd done this before, and somehow managed not to fall.  Reaching the bottom, she realized she wasn't sure what she was looking for, besides just 'a good spot to start digging'.

Tora walked down the dimly lit tunnel, stalk eyes scanning for any gap in the concrete casing of the tunnel.  There!  She spotted a block of concrete that looked like it could be pried loose.  She turned around, and wedged the blade of her tail into the crack, and slowly, slowly worked the block away from the wall.  The hole left behind was filled with soft dirt, and looked to be just the right size for a Taxxon.  Tora gave the hole a satisfied eye-smile, and headed back to the attic.

He smiled that andalite was a very thoughtful person. though she had probably slipped up when she said there were already tunnels. Then he climed out of the attic negotiation was not always his strongest attribute although a fellow taxxon would be much easier to coax.

(I'll have Zoshonel return to the attic after finding a suitable spot. I like the idea of us roleplaying as the Taxxons that Taxi talks to.)

Zoshonel found a spot in the farthest, darkest corner of the basement. Water was leaking through the wall, which would make it easier to dig. He went back to the attic with few troubles and told Taxi what he found. "So I have one more question. How to get Tora into the hole. aren't they all generally claustrophobic? Or was that a rumor?"

((I already came up with a Taxxon character, so I’ll just go ahead and play him, shall I?  Even though Galladerotom seems to have already taken the initiative to get the roleplay rolling again.))

A Taxxon gnawed hungrily on the bones left behind from his meal, not even really listening to the conversation that was taking place nearby between Taxi and another Taxxon.  Until, that is, he heard a mention of appamene.  His head suddenly whipped around, and he was sure he drooled a little.  Good god above, he loved that stuff.  A drug that could subdue his raging hunger, without even needing to eat?  Of course he was interested.

And it seemed that, at least from what the Taxxon heard from the present conversation, appamene would be provided to any Taxxon who helped out with . . . something.  Snake couldn’t quite make out what that something was.

Snake’s real name was unpronounceable, of course.  But most people called him Snake, due to the scaly diamond patterns etched into his slimy Taxxon skin.  And that was why he was here in the first place.  After the war, he had only ever managed to morph part-way into an anaconda before suddenly being distracted by a wounded animal that had happened to stagger by.  He didn’t even remember what sort of animal it had been.  Being a Taxxon, he immediately lost his focus on the morph in the frenzy that overcame him at the sight of the creature’s blood.  By the time he finally came back to his senses, the two-hour time limit had long-since passed, and he was trapped in a form just barely even a mid-morph, yet still unable to regain the morphing power.

He had eventually been found roaming in a forest, deemed dangerous to society, and brought to the Asylum.  He didn’t even care.  Life was good here.  They gave him food, and even better yet, that wonderful substance called appamene.

Snake listened carefully to Taxi’s conversation.  If there was a way to get extra appamene, he would find out how.

He shimmied over to the conversation, and screeched, “Shyyyyyyrrrraaaaaaaaashhh kliiiiiiiiiiichhhhh hhhaaaaaaaaaaarrrrr rrrr,” which could be roughly translated as “What is it you need help with?”

((Yeah, I realized that the Taxxons already got appamene.  Snake is just greedy.  He figures that if a thing is good, more of it must be better.))

"Shrreeeehhhhhhhhh sneeeeewwwwwwiiiiii ii ssssaaaaaaaaaaaahhh hhhhrrrrraaaaaaaaii iiiiiii aaaschhhhhiiiiiii," Snake replied, which meant "I've done some work on bug fighter flight systems before.  Is that the kind of experience you need?"

Meanwhile, Tora had returned to the attic only to find that the others were no longer there.  A little confused, she headed back out to the courtyard.  The lunch hour wasn’t over, and Tora was still hungry.  Despite her intense dislike of the lunchtime crowds, she had to eat, after all.

As she ran across the grass, she spotted Taxi talking to two Taxxons.  She overheard Taxi mention something about needing an Andalite with programming experience, but Tora knew she would be no help there.  She had never even so much as touched a computer in her life.

<I found a good spot for them to start digging,> she noted in a carefully guarded, private aside to Taxi.  <It's in the passageway that leads to the boiler room.>

A Taxxon awoke from sleep to hear people talking. What were they talking about? He sleepily scrapped along the floor to see what was happening. Maybe one of them would come close enough for him to grab a leg. The Andalite nearest him had four. He watched them quietly, while imagining chewing on the andalite female. If he could bite her tail off, and drag her into the room with him, then he'd have a nice meal. Too bad the gate was in the way.

His given name was Teeth. His employer always called him that, not that he had significantly more teeth than an average Taxxon. After the Yeerks left, he found himself out of a constant supply of food. He didn't feel like becoming an Anaconda, and didn't trust the Animorphs. He searched around for food until he found some crazy gang leader. The Human thought he was an animal, and being a glutton himself, thought it amusing that Teeth ate so much of so many things. At one point the police came, and took the Human to the Asylum. They took Teeth too, which is why he was here. He was fed meat and given apamene, but he missed the outside world. He missed the hunt. He missed rooting around in the dirt after a good feed.

"Should I go with him?" Snake asked Taxi in his slithery Taxxon speech, as an aside, lowering his voice in hopes that Teeth wouldn't hear.  "You said you didn't trust him, you want me to watch him for you?"

Snake was trying to make it sound like he agreed with Taxi, that he didn't think Teeth could be trusted either.  But that wasn't really his motivation for siding with Taxi on this.  In truth, Snake was thinking of one thing, and one thing only.  Appamene.  Going along with Teeth was the perfect excuse to steal some for himself.

Eventually one of the guards came with some meat to feed Teeth and the others. However, he used all of his will to lay in the corner, and not pounce on the meat. He even looked at it like he wanted it, but didn't move.

"What's the matter with you?" She asked, and opened the gate. She took a pole, and nudged him a bit. "Come on and eat, Taxxon."

At just the right moment, he lunged! The guard shocked him with a taser bolt from the pole, but he stunned her. He stole her keys and swallowed them before she recovered, and when she did, he glared menacingly. "I don't want processed cow meat. I want living, bloody flesh!" Of course he doubted she could understand him, but the point came across. She screamed and fled, shutting the door behind her.

He then brought up the keys, ate the meat, made his way out, and went to the storage room. He found eight cases before he heard people coming down the hall. He raced back to his cell, removed the stuffing from his bedding, and shoved the cases underneath. Then he closed the door, threw the keys outside, and lay on his bedding.

"...and I think I dropped my keys. No I don't want to go back alone. There they are. You behave, you vile disgusting animal!" She said, then left with the other guards.

"Mission accomplished." He said to himself.

Tora, now finished eating, followed Taxi back to the attic.  She listened to Taxi explain the new factors in the plan, and although she didn’t say anything, it was easy to tell from her expression that she wasn’t happy about the Taxxons’ new demands.  She tended to dislike Taxxons almost as much as (if not even more than) Yeerks.  They were so frantic, so demanding and their thoughts . . . their thoughts were like a perpetual nightmare.  She was somewhat disgusted that they would be relying on their help to escape in the first place, and even more so that they were now catering to their demands.

Tora looked, first with a stalk eye, then with her main eyes, at Zoshonel, noticing his muzzle for the first time.  Why were they treating him like some kind of animal? she thought angrily.  It wasn’t fair.  All he’d ever done was fall in love.

<Maybe I can help,> Tora said.  She brought her tail blade up to Zoshonel’s face.  <Hold very still,> she said softly.

Zoshonel had seen Tora come in after Taxi. He felt nervous when she asked him to hold still, and brought her blade to his face. What was she going to do with that? Cut his muzzle? He had already tried his claws. He wasn't sure if it would work, but he held still anyway. He wanted to trust Tora. She was pretty, and smelled good.

Darren yawned and decided it was a good night to wander.  He'd had nothing but basic duties in a while and it was getting monotonous.  Of course something big was going to happen soon, he'd heard it on the recordings.  Bugging most of the rooms had served as a nice distraction in the past and it was paying off now.  While any news attention it would draw would be bad for him, it might bring just enough excitement to let him leave.  Darren began to whistle as he wandered through the grounds.  It wasn't a tune so much as a few chords over and over again.  He smiled to himself as he imagined the panic there would be very soon.

Teeth was a bit nervous as he sat on the cases of appamene. If Taxi didn't get there soon, he could get busted. Especially since his nextcell mate was an appamene junkie. Of course he liked appamene too, but he never got into a frenzy over it since it didn't smell like blood. He knew that Snake had seen him enter the cell with eight cases. He just had to be strong, for the sake of freedom.
Title: Re: The Asylum

Tora daintily, ever so carefully, placed the sharp edge of her tail against the wire of Zoshonel’s muzzle, careful to keep the point away from his skin.  She pushed, gently at first, then harder and harder, until she couldn’t press any harder without hurting Zoshonel, and it was at that point that she heard a soft ‘crack.’  But it wasn’t the muzzle that had given way, it was her tail blade.  She gasped in pain as she carefully drew her tail away from Zoshonel’s face, watching a tiny trickle of purple blood seep from the cracked tip of her tail.

<Sorry,> she apologized, holding her tail in her hands and wiping the blood away with her thumb, <it was a stupid idea.>  Of course it had been a stupid idea, she berated herself.  She knew perfectly well that female tail blades were weaker than the blades the males were so famous for (hers, even more so, since she had had so little practice with it), and she should have known that whatever that muzzle was made of would be something that couldn’t be so easily cut.

Maybe it was for the best, anyway.  If the staff happened to find Zoshonel without a muzzle on, they might figure out that something was going on.  Little did Tora know, that someone else already knew.

Snake, meanwhile, was casually hanging around near Teeth’s cell, weighing his options.  He knew where Teeth’s quarters were, and had seen him take the appamene in there.  He could take it, right now.  But could he fight Teeth?  Maybe, maybe not.  That wasn’t the point, anyway.

The point was that it didn’t seem like the right thing to do.  Taxi was the big dog here, the one in charge.  Better not to do anything to upset Taxi, and Snake had a feeling that stealing the appamene wouldn’t make Taxi happy.

Snake was good at playing the politics game.  It was the one thing he’d learned from the Yeerks.  You find the one in charge, and become their best friend.  If they don’t trust someone, you don’t either.  If they want you not to do something, you don’t.  But, on the other hand, if Teeth should have a moment of weakness, Snake would make it his job to be the first to know . . .

Teeth's punishment for his earlier escapade was not getting any appamene. Little did the guards know he was sitting on eight cases. He mulled over whether or not to open a case and take a shot. If he was busted, he'd lose everything. If not, then all he'd have to do was explain why one case wasn't completely full.

Tora smiled with her eyes at the cloth that Zoshonel had tied around her tail.  Truth be told, it wasn't really needed.  The bleed had already nearly stopped on its own.  But it was a kind gesture nonetheless, and Tora appreciated it.

She appreciated it more than she should have, she realized.  Strange.  Why did the mere thought of having something that Zoshonel had touched, touching her skin, fill her with a feeling of . . . no, no, no!  Tora closed her eyes, and for just a brief moment, winced like she was in pain.  She couldn't be falling in love.  The mere thought of it terrified her.  Zoshonel had been nice to her once or twice, and she was so desperate for that affection that she was latching on to him without even meaning to.  She knew this, she could rationalize it . . . but she didn't have a clue what to do about it.
