My name is Jeff. I can't tell you my last name.
But I can tell you that I'm Tyler's brother! I'm also a lifelong Animorphs fan. I read the books way back when, and I've never forgotten them, or Applegate's incredible, engrossing characters. The Team has stuck with me. I love Animorphs, possibly even more as an adult than I did as a kid. It's a "kids" book series, but one that never pulls punches, never talks down to the audience, and gives an unflinching view of child soldiers in a brutal war for survival. I'm rereading the series now, and listening to The Hindsight, a really awesome animorphs podcast that I highly recommend.
Anyway, I look forward to chatting about one of my favorite book series of all time with all you fine folks. Cheers!

Hey there, Jeff - welcome to the forum! Happy to have you here :) Have a look around the boards, and if you need anything, don't hesitate to PM a staff member.
How's Tyler these days? :)
-
Hey there Jeff
When I was 8 a cassowary pecked my hand so hard it started bleeding
.... Anyway, welcome to the forum
-
:o You touched a Cassowary??? I'm so jealous! They're my favorite animal. I don't think they'd hold up well against Hork-Bajir, but I'd definitely take it into battle against Taxxons or human controllers. I bet a Cassowary would open up a Taxxon like a tin can.
Anyway, Tyler is doing good. He's working and watching after mom since dad passed away last year. He misses you guys and he was excited when I told him I was joining RAF. I'll pass along your salutations.

Hey, whattup? :D
-
Not much. Rained out of work today, so I'm going to try and pound out another chapter in the fic I'm writing.

They're pretty insane. The one I was feeding was at the zoo, but I've some on the side of the road when driving up north. They'd definitely tear taxxons apart XD

Hello there, and welcome to RAF! So cool to have a legacy member of sorts. :D
-
oooooh new members we haven't had that in a while
-
Hopefully we will see more soon. I don't know why, but I've got a good feeling about the future of Animorphs. I feel like something is going to happen soon. It's too good a series to go quietly into the night. It needs a new audience.

Welcome Jeff, tell Tyler we said hi :)
Cassowary would actually be a pretty badass battle morph. They're surprisingly dangerous and aggressive animals, plus they look terrifying. I used to volunteer at a zoo with free roaming emus and they scared the hell out of people even though they were big wusses, lol.
-
Welcome to Jeff, RAF. Dah, I mean, welcome to RAF, Jeff.
So, I assume cassowary is your species (http://animorphsforum.com/index.php?topic=2154.msg892190#msg892190), I assume? ;)
-
I would totally morph a cassowary for battle! Razor sharp claws, bony head cask for butting fools outta my way, and a seriously bad attitude.
You know, cassowaries are one of the *very* few animals on the planet that can actually feel hate? It's like Humans, hogs, hippos, cassowaries, orcas, and water moccasins.
-
From what I've heard about them, it wouldn't surprise me. Depends how you define hatred though, as it's kind of difficult to prove what emotions animals are capable of. I'm currently studying animal behaviour and a common problem in the field is people projecting human feelings onto animals (or even inanimate objects), even though most animals probably think very differently to us.
-
Emotion isn't uniquely human. Many other mammals share the necessary parts of the brain to experience complex emotion.
-
Obviously other animals have emotions, but they don't tend to display them in the same way we do. For a lot of animals "smiling" is an aggressive sign, showing off their teeth as a threat.
-
::smiles::
-
Smiling is hard to convey with a beak, in my experience. :P
-
As a dargon-owl hybrid, I know this pain :(
-
As a Cassowary, I never smile. I just glare balefully at the world.
-
And the world flees in terror :P
