I don't know if she told her mom that she had a relationship with a bird. I don't know if her mom even spoke to Tobias. All I know is she tried to leave with Sarah and Jordan, and was the most freaked about what was going on.
Did she say anything about Tobias, or know her daughter was dating a bird? If not, how do you think that would go? What do you think would have, or could have happened?
I realise it wasn't really important to the overall plot or anything, but I'm thinking of new things to talk about. This question, unlike the three year thread, won't have just one answer. Or shouldn't.

I think that even if Rachel didn't tell her mom she would've found out shortly after the was was over anyway. And at Rachel's funeral everybody let Tobias fly away with the Urn so they have to have known.

I agree, she probably found out herself.

I doubt that Rachel would have told her Mum something like that, especially as they had much more pressing issues at the time and Rachel had some disagreements with her Mum towards the end. However, I would assume that Naomi figured it out by herself, or somebody besides Rachel told her.

Naomi has mom intuition on her side, coupled with being a lawyer.
She figured it out. Rachel probably wouldn't ever tell her mom. Especially at that point in the war, but maybe even earlier in the war (if for some reason it had been feasible for Rachel to tell her mom). I just don't see Rachel as someone who would tell her mom about her personal life.

I can't see Rachel hiding it from here mom once they told there parents about it.
It wouldn't be all sit down "Mom I'm dating this guy...." but I can't see her running off an making sure she never catches them together.
Though this would be an awesome sitcom

I can see Rachel mentioning it in passing, but I doubt she would call him a bird. She was a big 'ole softy deep down. Thats why shes dating a guy that is arguably the most self pitying character in the series.

Yeah, she stresses at least once that he's Human underneath. She never thinks of him as more of a bird than a Human, even though he does himself.
I'm thinking of making a short fanfic about a female bird coming to Tobias' territory, and there being a kind of love triangle between those three. It could be funny.

"Oh, it's no big deal it's just that..."

"YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND!?!"
'I guess you could say that but he's not, exactly a boy, I mean, he is but, he isn't, he can become one for two hours at a time but..."
"JUST SPIT IT OUT!!!!"
"He's a hawk."

*Rachel explains happy to have found out that her mom is NOT a controller*
"Are you taking drugs?"
"NO! Mom! What kind of person do you think I am!?"
"I-"
"Scratch that, Tobias!"
A bird flutters in.
"AHHHHH!!!!"
Naoimi faints.
<I told you not to.>
"I know, I know. Wanna go see that new 90 minute movie?"

I think its funny that the general reaction seems to be that Rachel is taking drugs, like in The Separation.

That's where I got the idea. It was either that or alchohol. My mom works at a package store so I thought it best not to offend her.

If you really want to do a competitive fanfic, we can work out the rules in PMs.
It would be fun, but unless you want to wait 3 weeks for one chapter to be finished then I don't think it'll work. And besides, I have to finish my "Ax the Prostitute" story first and who knows how long that'll take...

They all lived in the Hork-Bajir Vally and when they found Loren Tobias was in his human form more often. I think it would have been difficult to hide that they were together and Naomi saw them together.
I don't think Rachel told her, but she didn't hide it either.
And on Rachel's funeral Naomi gave Tobias her permission to take the urn (I'll never understand that. What kind of mother would someone let take the urn of her daughter?), so she I'm sure she knew.

What else can I say? Everything seems to have already been said. What we SHOULD be focusing on more is Naomi's reaction. Seriously, for all she knows, he's a sentient bird that has morphing powers. Did they ever tell her about the Ellimist? I really don't think so, as they did have more pressing concerns. Then again, Naomi doesn't really understand how morphing works, so I don't think she'd really know Tobias was trapped and then given back his powers. Hmm...

I actually thought it redeemed her, considering how irritating she was during the final arc. She loved Rachel, but she didn't understand what she had become. By the end Naomi saw her as most of the other Animorphs saw her. She loved her, but she was a stranger to her at that point; she missed out on her daughter's steady growth of her eagerness for brutality. I think her allowance of Tobias carrying away her remains was a silent acknowledgement of the fact that Tobias knew Rachel much better and, not to reduce or compare a mother's grief for the passing of her eldest daughter, that he was more affected by her death. She was his only solid tie to humanity and the only consistent human relationship he ever had.
So, kudos to Naomi for not being irrationally possessive like most other mothers would have been. I'm impressed.

She might have told her but I'm not so sure. Tobias spent most of his time in the Hork Bajir valley in his Human morph so, if Noami noticed the interaction between them I think she would have figured out that those two were more than friends. K.A said in an interview that they couldn't dot every i and cross every t due to page constraints so I guess that explains it among other things like Rachel dad not being at her funeral and so on.
