Odd title, I know. But upon reading #33 The Illusion, I came across this quote:
I turned, and with a retching sound expelled the morning's grass.
It's a part of Elfangor's memories that he gives Tobias, to ease his death.
So my question is, how on earth does an Andalite retch and throw up without a mouth?
-
Maybe through their hooves. Although that doesn't make much since :P
-
I'd assume it's through the hooves somehow. Unless it's a memory from his early days as a human on earth and he tried to eat grass lol
-
Somebody, write fanfic about teenage andalites projectile vomiting on yeerk pools to troll them.
-
On a related issue, how do Andalites poop?
-
Tim, I'm pretty sure that the andalites have butts.

Seerow: Please don't barf on the Yeerks! It really annoys them!

Actually, from an evolutionary perspective, it makes a LOT of sense for Andalites to be able to throw up. It would probably happen through the hooves, just because it tends to be easiest for food to go out the same way it came in.
See, throwing up is nature's way of expelling toxins from the body. You eat something you weren't supposed to eat, and suddenly you dun feel s'good. And, next thing you know, that thing you weren't supposed to eat is no longer, um, eaten. :P
And think for a second about how Andalites eat. Granted, I figure, given that they eat off the ground constantly and almost never actually stop and look at the things they eat (they eat as they run, they don't have the time to stop and analyze every blade of grass to make sure it isn't actually some kind of poisonous plant), they probably would need to have a MUCH more robust digestive system than most terrestrial animals. It would probably take a lot to kill an Andalite.
. . . Which, now that I think about it, explains SO MUCH about Ax's eating habits in human morph.
But, still. Every creature has SOMETHING that is toxic to it. And, in evolutionary terms, plants actually don't like to be eaten, and will generally evolve exactly those toxins that will keep things from eating them. So, Andalites would need a way to expel from their bodies those few things that have managed to become poisonous to them. Thus, they would have to be able to, um 'toss their cookies/tango with the toilet/technicolor yawn' as Marco might put it.

I wonder if the Animorphs ever considered trying to poison the grass Visser 3 was scheduled to eat.....

Pour some instant maple oatmeal on the ground...

Then we would have a CRAZY Visser 3!

So we'd have the same guy.

A crazier Visser 3 than we had already! Also the oatmeal would eliminate all hope of starving Visser 3 out of Alloran!

That pissed me off when they ambushed him and didn't save Alloran. He could have morphed to flush out the poison, or Ax could have killed him like he had asked for and at least prevented Visser 3 from having morph capabilities.

Why didn't AX urge Alloran to morph something small?

I suppose Alloran wouldn't have been able to focus very well at that particular moment, not enough to be able to morph, and even if he could it's doubtful he has any particularly small morph other than maybe the 6-winged bird most Andalites first-ever morph. I doubt Visser 3 was ever interested in small morphs. Always wanting to show off.

Alloran would definitely have the kafit bird morph. I know this because Visser 3 morphed that animal in book 18!

. . . I don't think I've ever seen a thread derail into something more sane than the original topic, but I'll be damned if that didn't happen here.
Anyway, I seem to remember a book in which Ax mentions eating a snail by accident, but I can't remember which one. Maybe I just made it up in my head, I dunno. Point is, does anyone remember if he said anything about the shell? Because that might give some insight into the lovely topic of Andalite vomit.

That sounds vaguely familiar... honestly I just imagine an Andalite hoof to just "drop" anything that gets in that shouldn't. Sort of like putting something in your mouth, not liking it, and allowing it to just drop out of your mouth... though that's more of a "spitting out" than "throwing up," hmm.

We could download all the ebooks and code something to filter through them looking for keywords. I know some JS and HTML, neither of which could help us unless we make a website for that.
Heck, once I have enough money and skill maybe I will. I'm too lazy and peasant-y, but I honestly think this is a good idea. Opinions?
-
I thought all the ebooks got taken offline due to copyright stuff?
-
They exist on other websites.

I do remember Ax saying something about eating a snail. I want to say it was in #18? Maybe #8. It was one of his earlier books, anyway.
In that same book, I also remember him commenting on accidentally eating worms, too. :P Which kinda goes to show what I was talking about in my first post in this topic (before it derailed into 'sanity,' BOOO), that Andalites, being a species that has so little control over what they eat, are never grossed out or sickened by just about anything, at all, ever. Any reasonable species would have been like "Oh my god I accidentally consumed slimy-alien-invertebrate-snakes get them out of me blechh!" Instead, Ax's reaction was to casually comment that "too much protein tends to keep me awake at night," and then mention a snail he ate once.
For goodness sake, I grew up on this planet, knowing what worms are, and I even eat meat on a regular basis, and the idea of eating worms STILL grosses me out way more than it does Ax.
Point being, that, while Andalites can probably vomit, it is most likely an extremely rare occurrence. Hence why, in #12, Ax says that they don't even really have a word for it.

Do the ebooks have typos? Because they're available on RAF now and I could download them in case the project is ever completed.

I was thinking that Alloran might have been able to morph say a kafit bird if verbally encouraged by the Animorphs. The Animorphs verbally encourage each other to morph and demorph to heal injuries all the time!
