Title: Favorite Animorphs Shipping
Post by: Astarte on November 23, 2013, 08:49:56 PM
The title pretty much says it all. There were many shippings I liked. Like my son, and like poparena, I also believe Dak Hamee and Aldrea were a lousy shipping because it makes sense for him to feel that way, at least in the beginning, but not for her considering how manipulative she was. But my favorite shipping is Elfangor/Loren. There was just something really endearing and sweet when they spent time together, getting to know each other and the worlds they come from, and Elfangor growing accustomed to touch. My second favorite shipping would have to be Marco/Collette. The poor girl...

I really, REALLY loved the whole Ax & Estrid thing.... It was... JUST.. SO... FREAKIN'... CUTE! Maybe that's because Ax always acts sorta freakin' cute. I mean, he was acting like a little boy falling in love for the first time :D lol. The cuteness! The cuuuuteneeeeeess!

And, really? Why? (Not that I can't toootally see them being together but what is your reason?)

Ah... it's just that the other Animorphs are paired off with one another. And... they're just soooo cuuuuuute! It could never be canon though because of all the "I DONT WANT MY KID TO BE GAY" idiot parents. But still. Look at this quote.

Marco: May we join you?
Rich Lady: There's only one chair.
Marco: It's okay, we're very good friends. (yanks Ax down to sit on his lap)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I TOTALLY forgot about that quote! :D I THOUGHT when I read it it sounded a bit friendly.... Oh gee, how am I gonna read that to my friend without bursting out laughing?! lol

Btw, poparena says he is part of the "small but dedicated" ship for Marco and Rachel. Which I find myself shipping whenever I'm bored.

Animorphs/Homestuck crossover. Homestuck is a webcomic with a plot that is, for lack of a better word, a complete mind screw. Use Google next time.

My personal opinion is that the given options are... kind of boring. All right, so the Rachel/Tobias pairing has a certain charming enigma to it.

I <3 poparena, but seriously, Marco/Rachel is blasphemy imho. Gotta get behind the enthusiasm there, though!

That said...

...

Ax/Marco is EVERYTHING, and all the people I've encountered who ship Ax/Marco make a compact tumblr constellation of sunshine rainbow farts!  :kitty:

I don't know about that -- I think a compelling case could be made that Marco at least is holding down the B in GLBTQ.  ::)

But you're right that Ax is written ostensibly straight! I do think yet another compelling case could be made that gender-based attraction is less of a big deal to Andalites than it is to humans, though.

Anyway, I don't necessarily ship Ax/Marco because it makes sense... I ship Ax/Marco because it's AMAZING.

Would you prefer that MARCO be the one to morph a woman?

What kind of revolution is an Ax/Marco shipping revolution?  Will it end homophobia, or bring about equal wages for women, or end corporate domination of politics, or introduce a radical new type of boat?

You should add Ax/Marco. I don't ship them, but there were a few times when it seemed as if the author(s) were.

I'm paraphrasing, of course, but do you remember something like the following?

Seating arranger butler guy: (to Ax and Marco) I'm sorry, but there's only 1 seat left.
Marco: It's okay. We're very close friends. (sits in chair and pulls Ax down onto his lap)

Very close friends? VERY close friends?

EDIT: I guess you guys beat me to mentioning this pairing. I should have read the other posts.

Ax has mentioned being distracted by girls in school, and he was attracted to a girl Andalite in "The Arrival".  Marco has also expressed attraction to girls.

I propose the following ship: Tidwell/Illium.  Illium knows Tidwell quite intimately, and serves as Tidwell's best companion, and could serve as a replacement for Tidwell's late wife.  He would just need to morph into a human woman!

PP 46-47 of The Pretender: Marco is griping about never getting any time off.  Rachel says "When do we get you to shut up?  When do we get to switch you off?  I mean, good grief, Marco, you act as if you have something better to do.  Before we became Animorphs your entire day consisted of figuring out which girl to annoy next."

Marco grins and says "Now I always know which girl to annoy next", and puts his arm around Rachel and lays his head on her shoulder!  This is a boost to Marco/Rachel shippers!  Do you know of any other indications of a Marco/Rachel ship?

Unpopular opinion: I don't think a character going nothlit for the other for the relationship ought to be necessary for a ship to work out. That sounds like a gigantic sacrifice to me. And what if the relationship doesn't work out?

In the case of a gay pairing, there's not really any point to going nothlit in the first place, lol.
That opinion should not be unpopular it should be the thing

and what do you mean by the second paragraph

Tidwell/Illium: It would be annoying for Illium to have to get out of bed and demorph back into a slug every two hours!

and what do you mean by the second paragraph
Oh I just meant that there's not much of a reason for one or both to go nothlit in a gay relationship since reproduction often isn't expected within gay relationships to begin with, unless they're also trans. Going nothlit to another species and another sex is a whole other can of worms to get used to if it's not what you wanted for your body, and it seems like a huge unnecessary sacrifice to do just for a relationship!

So you are thinking in terms of Ax morphing human, boinking Marco silly for two hours, and then demorphing?
Title: Re: Favorite Animorphs Shipping

Being Catholic, I don't think of sex as a huge part of a relationship. Tim seems to think differently about this.

True, but it shouldn't. In the US, you can't legally do the X-rated stuff 'til you're 18, but I'm not sure how many people know that.

In the US, the age of consent can be anywhere between 16 and 18 depending on the state. I was half-right. However, the minimum age for watching X-rated stuff online is 18 (I think). I can't say that I've checked. :P

The enforcement for nsfw online content age limit is pretty much nonexistent, they just have to /say/ they're 18. And really, have you even met a teenage boy?

Age of consent means "the age at which a person's consent to sexual intercourse is valid in law." It's the same regardless of whether the parties are under 18.

1. They probably wouldn't. I was giving a hypothetical question a hypothetical answer.
2. With all due respect, and there's no nicer way to put this, you are being quite rude. I'd hardly call myself naive. Naiveté and celibacy are different. Being (hopefully unintentionally) rude? Viewing me as a two-dimensional being? I'd call that naive.
3. I agree.
4. I haven't seen Avenue Q, but I know the song to which you are referring.

I've already made my comment on naiveté. I should let you know that I have reached puberty. I do sometimes want to do what we all want to do, but I don't because of my religion. I feel strong when I fight it. I feel intelligent. Puberty makes you physically mature, but not mentally. I assume you've hit it. You don't seem to be mature at all.

I'm not an idiot, nor am I part of a flock of sheep. I believe in God. It's strange, it's illogical, it's a very odd thought. I choose to believe in God because I have hope. I have faith. I don't think you're wrong for throwing that away. I'll accept that we are different. Instead of mashing your keyboard in an angry retort to what I have said, accept that we are different people with different opinions.

3. Certainly. I don't think that it was ever a religious flame war. Just a heated debate that turned a little religious. Sorry if I sparked a war. Thank you for not feeding the fire.

I never post in this form but I had to add my two cents in this discussion. The bolded statement is so untrue.  ::) For one thing, I'm waiting, and I'm pretty sure I'm "somebody" which negates the nobody. Haha. Abstinence and celibacy are very good values to have. I think saving yourself for marriage is awesome. And I certainly don't believe that saving sex for the person you are going to be committed to for, hopefully life, will lead to an unhappy marriage. I would be honored if my partner did that for me, even though in this day and age, it isn't going to be likely for me to find someone like that. Why? Because of people who make virginity seem like something you have to get rid of or you're a loser. There is nothing "naive" about celibacy and believing in God. Yeerksalad, you sound very mature, and I think you're absolutely doing the right thing for yourself.

Anyway! I don't have a favorite shipping in Animorphs. I've never liked Rachel and Tobias together. I actually tried to skip over their scenes together. :/ I did like Jake and Cassie until #54, when I realized they couldn't have loved each other that much if they were both able to let each other go so easily. As for the others, I haven't read all the books, so I can't really say.

Rather than saying "<url>blahblahurlthing</url>," you can do "<url=blahblahurlthing>insert name here</url> to make it more delicious.

Really, that says absolutely nothing about Marco and Ax. That's like saying that since you and I are both gay, we're a thing. Which if anyone is confused, no. We're not.

I never got the Marco/Ax ship at all, really. Yeah, they're the only two main characters that never had a lasting relationship, but both of them seemed pretty exclusively interested in the opposite sex. Of course, I'm not one to question Michael Grant himself on this sort of thing, but even aside from that, when did they ever show any feelings toward each other aside from being friends and partners in the war?

To me, Marco/Rachel would have made a great couple. They had a lot of moments together, especially early in the early parts of the series, and they just had great chemistry.

tbh, I honestly kinda neutral when it comes to Max shipping. I mean it sounds cute and ****, but I'm pretty sure that Ax is straight (Based on 38).

True. But you and YeerkSalad totally are. I ship you two like I ship the Titanic. Where you guys both drown and die.

There's quite a lot of subtext, but I can relate to not noticing slash subtext because of being too busy derping around with het.

I have a headcanon that Andalites don't see gender as a factor in considering relationships, but that's probably just my shipping goggles and homestuck tra****ude talking.

Yeeeeeah, but that het stuff was canon. Max isn't... (or at least their not a full-fledged lovey-dovey relationship) There aren't actually a whole lot of romantic Max moments...

Quote from: book 35
We yanked off our uniforms. I looked around frantically. Empty chair! Just one, but it would do.

"May we join you?"

It was a table full of old people in suits or dresses, depending. One of them may have been our mayor. I'm not sure.

"There's only one chair."

"It's okay, we're very good friends." I sat down and yanked Ax down onto my lap.

just let me be a yaoi fangirl and you can stick to your not-really-a-shipper normality. it takes a real shipper to extrapolate from subtext.

You can take any line out of context and say it supports your ship. I've also seen it be done with Jabias (TobiasXJake, I also think that ship's cute but that's aside the point). They take random lines from the books and say it's ship supporting.

just let me be a yaoi fangirl
And no, I won't let you be a Japanese genre of fictional media focusing on romantic or sexual relationships between male characters, typically aimed at a female audience and usually created by female authors fangirl >:D

Your username fits you! You're really articulate for being so young. (Also SmartGirl is twelve according to her profile so like, maybe take that into account when trying to debate her? Chill pill, guys. Let's be the responsible adults here and not tell a kid what she likes is stupid or wrong or impossible.)

I just want to offer you some support from an older shipper to a younger one, lol. Please don't let 20-30 year old people in a fandom space telling you your observations or opinions about something are wrong discourage you. What you take away from the series is just as valid as what they do, just because they can't see it doesn't mean you're pulling something out of nothing. That kind of analytical, detail-oriented mind it takes to pick apart subtext, especially in the context of looking for LGBT or other representation where there is very little, is super important to hone! It's useful even outside of fandom space! It's downright scholarly, in fact. Did you know that's a very popular thing for people who study english literature to do? It's considered perfectly academic and legitimate to read things like The Great Gatsby or some other famous novel and interpret the characters as being gay, or people of color, transgender, etc etc. A very famous interpretation of Gatsby supports decades-old theories that the narrator is gay, based on subtext. English professors and people who do that stuff for a living sign off on that interpretive reading and consider it a legitimate observation to be taken into account! I think fandom spaces should adopt these academic ideals. :P

Anyway, we're kind of outnumbered on this forum so far as actually thinking of subtext as legitimate and something to pay attention to, much less the shipper aspect. So if you wanna talk more about Animorphs shipping in a space where people won't fight you about it, you should shoot me a PM and we can chat!

Eh, it varied from reviewer to reviewer. I won't say that it was my best piece, because I wrote it days after reading The Beginning. And I hadn't figured out the nuances of Fanfiction.net's formatting system, so it was basically a block of text that I wouldn't force captured enemy spies to read.

Really, it just played on the idea of Crayak's focus on Rachel. I could rewrite the idea and expand on it, but I've been avoiding fanfiction of late to focus on my original stuff.
