I always wondered what would have happened if the Animorphs had trapped David as something else. Obviously nothing too powerful, or anything that would be able to walk into the Yeerk pool and say: "Yo. I gots some information for ya'll."
Feel free to include pictures of what you think they should have turned him into--especially if some of us have never heard of them before.
Feel free to think up creatures better or worse than his rat form.
If they had access to the Mariana's Trench (not the band, obviously), I'd have them acquire, morph, and dump him there as this:

Not only would he be far, far away from humans, and prey to much bigger fish, but he'd go mad in the deepest, darkest depths of the ocean. Suddenly the rat doesn't seem so awful.

God, I swear that's a real-life Pokemon. Sorry, a little tired.
What about a gnat? In a frog-infested swamp?

A thing that can fly is always the WORST idea,I think.
-
Yeah, which is why I wouldn't turn him into the most omnipresent species here - the crow. I was thinking more on the lines of a small, flying insect. A flea, maybe. Or a mosquito. , turn him into a mosquito and drop him off in India - there'll be enough annoyed people armed with the skill of swatting the little buzzers. (And then #48 wouldn't have happened, lol. ;) )

Saffa, have you ever tried to kill a flea? It's not an easy task as they're damn near indestructible. He'd be able to escape rather easily, considering how easily fleas can go unnoticed.
How about . . . um . . . oh, a male deep-sea anglerfish? >:D
-
I think we discussed that in the Totally Random Animorphs Thoughts thread, actually.
-
^Actually where I got inspiration for this thread.
How about this:

ya'll realize they didnt want him dead right?
-
That's why I suggested flea. Like Cloaky said, near-impossible to kill.
-
How long does a flea live?
-
not long, but really, they aren't that hard to kill: roll them a bit between your fingers. If that doesn't kill em, it's as good as: breaks all their legs, they get stuck were you drop them and they starve. Last even less long

Turning a rat into a rat has some sweet justice to it. I think that what they did was the perfect option really. It might have been nicer to turn him into some sort of jungle animal and drop him off in South America. Way too much work though. I think killing him would have been the best thing to do.
-
Assuming I wouldn't have shown mercy and just killed him, I'd have him turned into something short lived. Probably an insect. Still, I think that's about the worst thing you could do to a person.
-
as ugly as that naked mole rat may seem, they are actually evolutionary wonders...
i am thinking a caecilian would have been a hideous alternative to the rat

Traitors are also called snakes.

Guys, don't forget, whatever he's morphing has to be something he can easily be tricked into, with the belief that it's part of a mission. They only got him into rat morph in the first place by having him think it was somehow necessary.
Agreeing with Russell, here: rat is both believable for mission purposes and a decent way to keep somebody from doing much travel-and-communicate.
****roach would've been better, though. :P
-
Of course, killing him is the safest and most effective way of ending the David issue. This is a perfect example of how doing the right thing is sometimes the hardest.
-
Turning him into an ear wig would also be pretty bad.
-
How bout a clam? Do those even move on their own?
-
Keep in mind that anything that ends up near people could make trouble for the Animorphs, since he can still thought-speak.

That's why I suggested a male anglerfish, for if he succeeds in finding a female one (the sole goal of the male ones, iirc), he'd spend the rest of his life fused into her side as sack of repro. . . well, never mind.

hmmm either a fly or a ladybug
-
turn david into a roach they all have roach morphs make him morph the roacxh and trap him in a box smaller than a person for 2 hours  RoAcH wOuLd Be AwEsOmE >:D but david is a ratty RAT who RATTED on the Animorphs so rat was cool 2!!! (to kill him if they hade 2 go 2 taxon place make him a :taxxon: and give him a wound... heh
-
Wow you people are too nice. Let's go all the way with this one!
David was such a tool. It's a shame he and other "Mercenary"-types (such as Visser Three's twin) couldn't tag team. They would've been perfect. David gets an insane amount of money to find and capture delicious yeerks for his cannibal partner. He gets revenge, he gets rich, and Esplin gets dinner.

ewwwwwwwwwwwwww 2 that pic
I stil pick wounded taxxon if they wanted 2 kill him hrmph.
-
You want a wounded Taxxon, you have to go to the Yeerk pool. They don't really grow on trees. And you wouldn't really want to go there unless you had an alternative, now, would you? Personally, I wouldn't. Even reading about it gives me nightmares.
Thank you. I could've had plenty of better ways to start the day than looking at that picture.
-
;D
But he's soooooooo friendly, how can you be so mean. Mr Blobfish, kitty didn't mean it.

I give up
