The Fifty Shades series essentially began as Twilight fanfiction.
I know there are more than a few book quality Animorphs fanfictions on this site and I wonder how many of you have considered changing a few names, making a few adjustments and trying to go the Fifty Shades route. (I mean, without the eroticism part, naturally)

Ohh, interesting. It might be possible, but whatever elements find their way in there might have to be fairly heavily modified. The aliens of the series, as well as morphing itself, are very distinctly Animorphs- and those are elements that find their way into 99% of Animorphs fanfics, I'm sure (could you even call it an Animorphs fanfic without that?)

I have, actually. But I don't think I'd actually do it. But who knows? Maybe an Animorphs inspired book? And let's not knock the erotica :p

I've thought about it many times. I have some really compelling characters that I would love to write about, but the problem I always have is separating the universe. So many of my characters are dependent on the idea of two minds in one body, and it's hard to recreate that in a way that does not feel like a rip-off.

Well, keep in mind, the idea of a parasitic alien that controls the host body didn't begin with Applegate. Everything is deriviative of something else, even if it wasn't intentional.
The Doctor Who movie has a scene that's very similar to an end scene in the book The Man Who Fell to Earth, but it doesn't mean one ripped off the other.
