Title: Did you think David would last?
Post by: wolfev on August 31, 2008, 03:49:21 PM
When you first read the David Trilogy, did you think that David would be a permanent member until the end or did you think that he was not going to make it very far in the series.

I didnt see him making it past the trilogy. The obvious answer is cause on the back covers it said PART ___ OF A TRILOGY so I kinda figured it was a trilogy dealing with david and then hes done.

More story related answer, he definately didn't fit in with the team, and from the second they met him they were building up to a climax. I had no idea it wasn't gonna end like that though lol

He was never accepted into the group, so I didnt really expect him to be

I think it was strongly hinted from the very beginning that David was going to be a problem in the group.  As Duff said, because of the trilogy thing, and the cover blurbs and the story itself also had some foreshadowing.

I don't remember how I felt about it at my first reading though, it was so long ago xD and I don't even remember if I was reading the books in order at that point.

I was rooting for him at first but that only lasted until KA decided to make him the most unbelievably aggravating and hateable character is history.  It certainly didn't take long for me to begin hoping that he was eliminated in some way and soon.

I never liked him and it was clear that he wasn't cut out for being in the Animorphs. Personally I'm glad he didn't become a permanent part of the team and I greatly sympathised with Marco's opinion of David when they first met him in #20.

I'd probably would think he'd last longer, but I read #23 before the david trilogy, so I already knew he was gonna be a traitor, so I'll never know.

I didn't think he would last either.

He was annoying and I never really liked him. Until he turned villain. I think I have a weakness for villains XD

This is what happened to me too... sort of. My stupid town didn't get #22 at the time (either that or it was sold out), so when #23 came out, I picked it up off the shelf and started reading it. Anyone who has ever read #23 knows that the ending of #22 is spoiled in like the second chapter or something. Blah. A dumb mistake on my part, but I was young. :P

Originally I thought that he might have a chance, but as I continued reading through 21 and the rest of the trilogy it became obvious that it just wasn't going to work.

I can't remember. But I too read book 23 before any of the others. And when I got into the series, it had already ended four years before. Either way, it's irrelevant.

The real question should be: Do any of you think David got a bad rap?

The answer: Yes, yes he did.

Nope, he didn't, unless you want to argue that he'd be better off dead, which is legitimate IMO. But the kid tried to sell out Earth's last chance at survival over a personality conflict and sleeping on hay bales. Come on, David! I could sympathize with him up until he was all "lol Tobias is roadkill now I watch TVs!" and then I was just counting the pages until he bit the dirt.

No, I did not. I knew IMMEDIATELY he wouldn't last. Face it: The Animorphs DID sort of hand him his fate. They never told him about the blue box, he had no knowledge, and they're surprised when he resists giving it up and then tries to sell it. At least, from David's point of view, that's how it looked. And then Marco HATES him. Having to stay with a group of people who don't accept you from the start, one of whom HATES you, with the same group who MADE THIS HAPPEN, tends to complicate forming a relationship.

I think David was badly done. It's like he came out of nowhere to try to give us fake angst and stuff. SERIOUSLY! He couldn't wait until the Anis stopped the Yeerks from moving against the leaders? And didn't he KNOW if he didn't stop f^$%ing around, the Yeerks would take over everything and make it impossible for him to live in the world? (ROLLS EYES)

Like I said, badly done. But I ALWAYS knew David's fate because I read one of the higher-numbered books before I read #22 (in fact, I had #22, but not #20 or #21, so I only knew how the ENDING of the trilogy went, not the beginning).

I really liked the David trillogy, but I knew he wouldn't last because I read the threat before the discovery.

He was the best villain in the series, by far, because he wasn't 'evil' he was just... A psychopath in terrible circumstances.

I think he was the best villain because he had all the qualities that Visser Three has, but was far more intelligent. I think the Animorphs were genuinely afraid of David.

Plus he could get them at home, where the yeerks couldn't touch them. The Solution is such a roller coaster because Rachel doesn't get any rest. David could attack at any minute.

Nope.I knew right when David joined and had the attitude that he had that it wouldn't worked. But I figured they would kill him and not trap him as a nothlit.

While on the subject, how DID David learn where Rachel lived?
