Title: "This Is War"
Post by: EverEstreen on November 20, 2012, 11:20:12 PM
"This is War" by 30 Seconds to Mars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q-Ps-OD_1w#ws)

So I saw lots of people making connections between the different roles mentioned in the song "This is War" and fictional characters from various series, and I thought, hey, if there's any fandom that needs to join the bandwagon, it's the Animorphs fandom!

Basically, you match a role to a character. The ones mentioned in the song are: Solder, Civilian, Martyr, Victim, Prophet, Liar, Honest, Leader, Pariah, Victor, and Messiah. Which Animorphs characters do you think best suit each part?

My take is:
Soldier - Ax
Civilian - Marco
Martyr - Rachel
Victim - Tom
Prophet - Cassie
Liar - David
Honest - Erek
Leader - Jake
Pariah - Tobias
Victor -
Messiah - Elfangor

I thought Cassie could also be the "Honest" since she acts as the moral voice for the group, and Erek could be the Prophet since he hands the Animorphs missions on a couple occasions like a higher intelligence telling them what to do. Then I got really stuck on the Victor, because no one really won from the war. Maybe Alloran for getting his freedom back?

Full lyrics below if you're interested.
A warning to the people,
The good and the evil,
This is war.

To the soldier, the civilian,
The martyr, the victim,
This is war.

It's the moment of truth, and the moment to lie,
The moment to live and the moment to die,
The moment to fight, the moment to fight
To fight, to fight, to fight!

To the right, To the left
We will fight to the death!
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
From the last to the first

To the right, To the left
We will fight to the death!
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world!

A warning to the prophet,
The liar, the honest,
This is war.

To the leader, the pariah,
The victor, the messiah,
This is war.

It's the moment of truth, and the moment to lie,
The moment to live and the moment to die,
The moment to fight, the moment to fight,
To fight, to fight, to fight!

To the right, To the left
We will fight to the death!
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
From the last to the first

To the right, To the left
We will fight to the death!
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world!

I do believe in the light
Raise your hands into the sky
The fight is done, the war is won
Lift your hands toward the sun
Toward the sun
Toward the sun
Toward the sun
The war is won

To the right, To the left
We will fight to the death!
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
From the last to the first

To the right, To the left
We will fight to the death!
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world!

A brave new world
The war is won
The war is won
A brave new world

I believe in nothing
Not the end and not the start
I believe in nothing
Not the earth and not the stars
I believe in nothing
Not the day and not the dark
I believe in nothing
But the beating of our hearts
I believe in nothing
One hundred suns until we part
I believe in nothing
Not in sin, not in God
I believe in nothing
Not in peace and not in war
I believe in nothing
But the truth of who we are.
The Human race won. Even a phyrric victory is still a victory. I'm not sure I'd know an individual who won most, unless it's the Ellemist. Even then I'm not sure.

err... actually the first book Cassie narrates is The Message...  :P
I wonder which character the Ellimist would be grouped under?
Come to think of it, he rather fits the Prophet a bit.

Oh, and did I mention? I love this song.  :)

Whoops, that's embarrassing! Ahem... that never happened.
I thought maaaybe the Ellimist could be the victor? Since he at least won in the ordeal over the Yeerks taking over Earth, which is still a victory even if it's just a battle in the huge scheme of the war with Crayak.

Toby was the victor.  She got everything her people had fought for generations to get.

Hard for the Hork-Bajr to consider themselves victors when they suffered slavery and death for multiple generations.

I'm not great with lyrics, but I do love this one, definitely the best 30 Second to Mars song.

The guy who pulls all the strings and then says he's victorious? Can I just quote Marco - the Irony Gods, man.

I guess I would think it'd be hard for them not to consider themselves victorious when they finally beome free of that. :P

Yeah, but the ellimist makes such a good prophet...

You might as well change the name of the thread! To 'Who really was the victor in the Yeerk War' ... :)
