Here is a copy of the message I sent to Issam (Essam 293 on these boards) at the Hirac Delest:
Issam, I was wondering if you could help me out with some "emergency" research. Do you recall in which book the Yeerk character "Dracon 1423" was mentioned? (Page number would be nice to know, too.) I think it was in Visser that he was mentioned. Dracon 1423 was the creator of Dracon Beam technology, but somone with an IP address of 64.252.198.96
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/64.252.198.96 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/64.252.198.96) )
deleted references to this character on Wikipedia because they say he "does not actually exist". I am sure that I read about this character somewhere, because I'm the one who added that a few months ago. Here are the edits where Dracon was removed:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_minor_Yeerks&diff=next&oldid=446439413 (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_minor_Yeerks&diff=next&oldid=446439413)
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_species_(Animorphs)&diff=next&oldid=446603692 (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_species_(Animorphs)&diff=next&oldid=446603692)
Some web searches also revealed that I'm not the only one who read about this character:
http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Dracon-1423 (http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Dracon-1423)
http://www.hiracdelest.com/projects/reviews/calebweapons.htm (http://www.hiracdelest.com/projects/reviews/calebweapons.htm)
http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Dracon-1423 (http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Dracon-1423)
Obviously, I can't really cite any of those pages for Wikipedia, so could you help me remember what book Dracon was mentioned in? I'm going to ask this at the RAF forum, too. Thanks in advance!
Can any of you guys help me find this character, Dracon 1423?
:dracon:
-
did a quick search through all the chronicles books as well as visser, did not find any mention.
-
I'm almost sure it was in one of those books. Vissers One or Three were narrating about the history and development of Dracon Beams.
If it isn't one of those books, then it has to be in one of the earlier books, like book 8 or something. Maybe Ax talked about Dracon 1423 at one point.
I know that the character exists because of all those examples I linked to in my original post! He's there somewhere!
-
Might be in the hork bjair chronicles. Nothing too important just a brief mention of a scientist
-
Yes! That's it! I'm 99% sure that that's where I read it, during one of Esplin 9466 Primary's narration. If I had a copy of that book, I'd see the page number it's on. All the same, thank you!
(I'm not fixing the Wikipedia pages until I know the page number.)
-
Well personally, I don't recall a character name Dracon ever.
I checked HBC, they don't have a Yeerk with the name
It's repeatedly said that the dracon beam is a modified form of the andalite shedder and in HBC dak says
the dracon beam is "a blending of Andalite shredder technology with some Ongachic particle-wave technology"
But no, I don't think the dracon beam itself is ever given a name creator: I've never heard of Dracon 1423
Probably a fanfic
-
Ooohhhhhhhhhhhh. That's probably where I heard it. -_- Just goes to show you how easily a good and well-written fan fiction can mesh with your perception of canon.
Then again, I can't find a specific fan fiction that mentions that name a search of "Dracon 1423" site:fanfiction.net reveals nothing, but I did find this:
http://www.freewebs.com/morphzclub/weapons.htm (http://www.freewebs.com/morphzclub/weapons.htm)
-
We would probably need to skim through teh whole series for it
-
i really remember they mentioned it in the HBC, though, but i couldn't find it there
-
He's like the mystery phantom character that no one can find, yet they think they know they've read about him before... (somewhere)
-
I dont remember him. Though I havn't read ALL the books.
-
Well, fortunately for you, I have every single book in e-book form on my computer.
However, unfortunately for you, after doing a keyword search for "Dracon", with hopes of finding the Yeerk's name, there was no reference to that name in ANY of the 60+ books. There was no mention what-so-ever of the Yeerk that modified the shredder. Sorry.
Here's a bit of trivia, in books 6, 12, 22, 27, 32, and 40, there isn't a single refence to a Dracon. No Dracons were fired, or even threatened.
-
really? Curious
-
Probably a name written in a FanFic, like someone suggested earlier.
-
Why "curious"? He himself theorized that he read it somewhere in a fanfic and mistaked it for actual canon.
Also, Dracon-1423, It just sounds made up.
-
well, all the names are made up.
And the name is on http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Dracon-1423 (http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Dracon-1423) so i'm not sure if it's made up then
-
yes nobody bothered to write down where he was found
-
Yeah, he's not in any of the books. And that entry didn't list any refernces as to where they got that info. It had to be from some fanfic or something that some random decided to add it to the Wiki to try and cement it into the Animorphs canon.
-
Might be a prank. You mention that was never in the book. People wonder where you found it. They get vague memories of reading about it.
-
If you look at the homepage for that Ani-alt-uni-wiki, it's things like "add & build" onto concepts, and overlays Seerowpedia so it doesn't have to detail canon info.
I think this is a site for fans to expand on the Animorphs universe, but it still is the realm of fanfiction.
I just did a reread- and the Andalite Galactic museum this site mentions (http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/The_Andalite_galactic_museum (http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/The_Andalite_galactic_museum)) is nowhere in the books, I promise
-
Wasnt KA supposed to release 6 more books? Maybe she released some of the information that was going to be in them.
-
I doubt it. Either way, wiki isn't fact, it's user generated, so I'm sure not all that's in a wiki is official canon.
-
Also, we may find the name familiar, because we've constantly read the words DRACON BEAM. Maybe that's it.

its basic memory writeback. when i thought about hork bajir chronicles, i thought i remembered reading it too.
-
No worries. Since we found a source, questionable thought it may be, and determined that is indeed NOT in the official canon, would it now be prudent to lock the thread? The question was answered and there's no real need for further debates or discussion.
-
darth has a point
-
Also, Dracon-1423, It just sounds made up.
Aren't all Yeerk names "made up"? :-\ :P
-
Yes, but made up in the sense that somebody just took the word dracon and rolled a couple pairs of dice to decide the number
-
ok...so it isn't from the books... apparently
and i can't find it on Wikipedia (the yeerks section)
-
It's not from the books. :)
-
Alright. So, someone tell the mods to lock this then.
-
Dogman, do you mind if the mods lock the thread? Was your question answered? 'Cause I can't see any reason to keep debating when we already have all the facts. Other than where you saw the name originally, of course.
Only found reference to "Dracon-1423" (http://animorphalternateuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Dracon-1423)
No "Dracon-1423" found in any of the Animorph books (http://animorphsforum.com/index.php?topic=8524.msg665926#msg665926)
-
Yeah, I guess we can lock this. I got in my last comment about how all the Yeerk (and all the other alien) names are made up anyway. I'm just sort of bummed that it wasn't a real name because it sounds like a totalyl plausible origin story for where Dracon Beams came from.
I'll just close with this nice little GIF:
:dracon:
:)
Thanks, everyone.
-
We try our best.
-
Sorry I didn't see this earlier, I have pretty good knowledge of the series (and own all the books) so I could've answered your question. As several people have already said, there is no mention of any character named Dracon in the series. If you recognise it, he must be in a fanfic.
Oh, and for future reference you don't really need to make a thread for a question with one answer. It doesn't require discussion so this thread is fine: http://animorphsforum.com/index.php?topic=823.765 (http://animorphsforum.com/index.php?topic=823.765)
