Title: Greetings Earthlings!
Post by: Pokey on March 12, 2011, 09:40:47 PM
Greetings all!
My name is Lauren, I'm still a closet diehard animorphs fan despite now being 21 and have been in fangirl love with Tobias ever since I was 8 *hangs head in shame*. Now that I've scared everyone off with my first line of my introductory post, for those of you that still remain (probably as an emotional wreck rocking in the corner of your nicely padded cells), I'm from Brisbane Australia where I am currently studying at the University of Queensland, currently completing my BSc honours (gradated last year with ecology/zoology major) and looking at declines in woodland birds in different regions of Australia. When I'm not working of studying, I am off adventuring by myself or with friends, or playing games, I absolutely adore the outdoors and wildlife, and spend as much time outside as in (when study permits). I also love games, all kinds of games, pc games, console games, card games, board games, tabletop RP games, anything that allows me to indulge in that bit of fantasy that real life seems to like to stamp out of people after childhood :P Though I've said it in my post already, I love animals (and have all my life, thus why I am studying zoology/ecology) and am quite passionate about conservation and animal rights and welfare. Because of this I am vegetarian, have my own vegetable patch in my yard and backyard chickens which are rescues battery hens, (it never fails to amaze me that such great characters spent their entire lives in a battery cage, and would be chicken stock along with the rest of their fellows now had they not been rescued). Despite the serious sounding nature of my post (kind of happens when you've spent all day studying before finding this site) I'm actually an really easy going person (so much it can probably be annoying haha) and revel in being an absolute nut-case with my friends :D. After reading other people's posts for the last hour or so, everyone on this site sounds absolutely awesome and I wish I had discovered this site sooner! (I have joined other animorphs groups online in the past but all the members were inactive, and pretty soon after I followed the same trend haha). Anywho I really don't know what else to say, I'm terrible at these introductory things.... So I guess I'll leave it at that, I'm really looking forward to getting to meet everyone here! :)

(This is what I love about the internet, it can bring people with the same interests together in a way that has an absolute blatant disregard for geography! :D )

Hey, Lauren, you sound pretty awesome!  Lol, did you really think people were going to be scared off by your introductory post?  That first couple lines could have easily been written by me.

Anyway, I'm DinosaurNothlit, but feel free to shorten it to DN or Dino.  Welcome to RAF!

Suddenly, a large dark-brown bear enters the room. He appears gentle, and is curious about the newcomer. <Hello! I am Bear. Are you new here? Let me show you around!>

<This is the 'RAF Social' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=29.0) Board. We really get to know each other here. You've already introduced yourself, and you can also have your own Member Profile (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=30.0) here, too!> The Bear lumbers back through the doorway, leading Pokay into a hallway. There are many, many doors here.

<This door is the way to the 'RAF Projects' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=13.0) Board. Lots of RAFians work together on all kinds of cool stuff, like producing Animorphs audio-books (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0) and  "RAF: The Animated Series" (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=3738.0)! It's a really good show....> Bear moves over to another large door.

<Here is the 'Bored Board' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=1.0). We play games and love to waste our time here! It's a lot of crazy fun. You should join us here!> Bear continues down the hall, speaking as he goes.

<These three doors are for the Animorphs Section. We discuss the books, TV show, and anything about the series in the 'Animorphs Forum' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=2.0). The 'Animorphs Role Playing' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0) Board is exciting! RAF always has active RPG's, and lots of cool players. I hope you like to Role-play as much as I do....> Bear's short tail wagged. <And we have some talented writers who share their 'Animorphs Fan Fiction & Art' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=5.0) in here. I like that room.> Across the hall, there is another set of three doors, side by side.

<That is the 'General Board' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=11.0). We can talk about anything there... the weather, funny quotes, or anything you like! We also play all kinds of non-Animorphs RPG's  (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=23.0)in there, and we have way more neat stories and artwork (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=27.0) in that last door.>

<Oh yeah! And there's the 'Media Area' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=4.0), where we talk about movies, TV, the news.... And we talk about 'Other Books' (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=21.0) in that room!>

Bear sits on his haunches and looks at Pokey. <It's a big place, but it's so much fun here! We're glad that you came. Tell us a few things about yourself here (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=6489.0), and what species you are here (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html).>

Bear begins to walk farther down the hallway, which opens into a thick green forest. He looks over his shoulder and says, <You'll see me around. Welcome to RAF!>

Well Howdy! I'm Bear, though we already met in RAFchat. Sorry about the wall o' post there.. well, sorta. :P You see, me and a few other RAFians kinda have this contest to be the first to greet the newcomers with obnoxiously long introductory posts. And... I win! ;D TAKE THAT DAMEG!!!!! ...

...so anyways... nice to meet ya! And yeah, isn't the internet great? I love it hear. Here's hopin' you will too!

Hey-lo, Lauren! *shifty eyes* Welcome to RAF, officially. A note of warning. There are a few things you need to look out for. *nods* ..if you haven't met them yet.
1. A French talking Yeerk.
Yep, that's right. But she speaks English too for...English speaking reasons? *nods a few times* Careful with her, she's kinda spooky. :P She'll lead you down a hallway and introduce you to the RAFipedia, the Audiobook Project, Graphic Novel, smiley project, Animorph translation project, RAF: The Animated Series, RAFparody animation project, Project Planet, Animorphs: The RPG, Animorphs Command-line game (another video game), an Animorphs Body Count, the musical aspects of RAF, One RAFian, one volume of Animorphs (a really interesting project), and then little projects. And she'll mention how to add your species, age, where you live, and how to go to school. Yep, we have school here. *nods*
2. A telepathic Bear.
He looks gentle. But be careful. He can get really mad. Of course, he won't tell you that. But if you anger the bedtime bear, or anything...let's just say that bears cause some damage. *nods again* He'll tell ya about RAF social, and just in a sentence about the RAFprojects, who you can turn to Dameg for more detail. Then you'll see about the Animorphs stuff. There's the Animorphs forum, Animorphs Fanfiction and Art, and Animorphs Roleplaying. You should check those out. *nods again until his head starts to spin* Ow...sorry 'bout that. *clears head* Then he'll lead you to General Board. It's just what the title says. Anything general. There are also, as he'll show you, non-Animorph RPGs. Several, actually. And more fanfiction too! And finally he'll tell you how to say some more about yourself. Pretty easy stuff, actually. *nods again, but his head is so loose it finally falls of* Uhh...you wouldn't mind picking it up for me?
3. Finally, 2 kids out to take your sanity.

Oh wait, skip that last one! I'm here--along with Myth, when she gets here--to take out all of your sanity, whatever you have left of it. It's what we do best. *nods* She'll be here shortly. Pardon her rude bumping into walls habit. ::) I have to deal with it. *sighs*

So....did I ever say welcome?

*ignoring Bear* Pfft!

wHELLcome, Pokey!
I'm Vis... I'm Dameg, another RAFian. Come with me, please, I have something to show you. It's here, after this door *Open a heavy door* We call them the RAFprojects. *Lead Pokey to a long and dark hallway, with many doors, some in the dark, some with light coming from the other side. Arrive near the first door* Here at your left...

- RAFipedia: http://rafipedia.wetpaint.com/ (http://rafipedia.wetpaint.com/), an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);

Next it's...

- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0), a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel;

Facing it...

- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html), a Webcomic headed by Gafrash.

You also have...

- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html), we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...);

here and facing it is...

- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html), a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks;

Next door is for the special project:

- http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html): the adventures of the RAFians;

At the end it's for the little projects:

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html);

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html) to make the planets we hear about in Animorphs;

- the paper-RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^;

- the RPG project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html) to make a video game about Animorphs, with RPGmaker;

- the Command-line game project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html) for another kind of video game about Animorphs;

- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html) where we count all the people killed by the Animorphs;

- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735), where we make songs (and sing them?)...

- the One RAFian On Volume project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5317.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5317.0) where everybody take a picture of him/herself with a volume of Animorphs... <= We need a lot of RAFians to participate! You only need a volume of Animorphs (rented if you don't have any) & a camera/webcam

and some other projects who come and go. Please check the list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html)

*Standing in front of Pokey* I hope you enjoyed your visit. Oh, and I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html) 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller. ... and if you want, you can add your age too: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html)... and say where do you live here: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5049.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=5049.0) so Marie can add you on the RAFworld Map!
We also opened a http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=36.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=36.0) to teach to each others our languages and other stuffs.

Now I have to go, I don't invite you for the meal, sorry. *Beginning to go down dark stairs. Pokey can hear a cry coming from the cave.*
Have fun!
*Dameg disappears into the darkness, Pokey is now alone in the hallway*

Anyhoo, hey-lo, Pokey! I'm Mythgirl, but you can call me Myth. We met in chat last night, but just suffer through my ramblings a bit longer. I'll stop eventually, I promise. Probably around the time I die.

Well, now that I'm here, J and I will take your sanity. Sorry about the beginning of my post, I have an unfortunate habit of running into walls, which my partner-in-crime J has already told you about.

I hope you enjoy all the completely insane members and awesomeness RAF has to offer, 'cuz once you come here, you can never leave. Have fun!

Hiya Pokey!  I'm Tara, although you can call me Myitt (like My + It) if you're so inclined. ;)

Welcome to RAF!  Don't worry about feeling old and still into Animorphs, I'm almost 27 and many of us here are in our early-to-mid twenties--comes with the territory of reading Animorphs when it came out, I guess! :D  If you like roleplaying in type format I'm pretty active in the Space Bar thread (and I guess I have been, on and off, since I was 14 XD)...it's fun stuff, pretending to get hammered and getting into dramatic mischief, and mostly Animorphs-based.

I was a biology undergrad major, it's cool that you're into conservation!  My focus now in grad school is in museum studies and paleontology, so I'm more into looking at animals that...are preserved, more than need conserving, but biology rocks!  (Or is that supposed to be geology rocks? XD)

Anyway, welcome to the group, hope you enjoy it here!

It's true. Many of us are interested in animals. Some enjoy digging them up after millions of years since they lived. Others enjoy taking care of them. Others, such as myself, enjoy eating them.

first of all, I'm standing right here.

Second of all, those traps are lame. You just have to get your paws in there just right, and they pop right open. They're dern obnoxious, though. If I see a single trap in my territory, Lorem, I'm gonna maul you.

... Ah, but you are forgetting several crucial pieces of information, which you may actually have not known about...

1) Shock has recently exercised his right to arm bears, leaving me with several semi- and full- auto weapons of my own. Granted, I can't manage to load the magazines by myself... it really requires that you have thumbs... but I can sure as heck shoot them. And lobbing a grenade is even easier.

2) I have in my possession a very valuable and very useful "Endangered Species Identification Card". *shows card* I'm not exactly sure how this works, but when I hold it up like this and wave it around a little, the EPA and other government officials immediately come to my aid. They have more guns.

3) I am a Texan. No further explanation needed.

4) Due to certain unique circumstances throughout my life, I have come to have a very interesting relationship with lightning. While I may not be fully electrokinetic, I do have some influence over that. I have been able to successfully use that ability in battle and win. The victims don't often fully recover. Or live.

5) Also, while I don't like to talk about this part of my life too much... the carnie's owe me one. With just one phone call, I can have a small army of angry clowns and acrobats and ... that bearded lady....

6) And less you think that you could catch me sometime while alone, let me assure you, it doesn't happen often. My home is fully bugged with high-quality microphones and cameras, typically used for leisurely RAFstalking, but which can very easily be used for an alert and surveillance system.

So, let me ask you know... you sure you want to do that?

1.) Right to arm bears yes ... but how good is your aim?

2.) The endangered species card doesn't scare me.

3.) Texan? I laugh. I'm a Nevadian. We eat Texans at the Casinos.

4.) Electricity is fun. All I have to do is carry a ground rod, and I'm not all that worried about your lightening.

5.) I will give you that one about the circus folk. I'm not scared of clowns, but that bearded women sure does give me the chilly willies.

6.) There is a 'fair game' policy when it comes to hunting. Not fair for me to enter your home and get you. It's more game to follow you and take you down.

So in response, it would be a fun sport to do this.

I'm not scared of clowns, but that breaded women sure does give me the chilly willies.

6.) There is a 'fair game' policy when it comes to hunting. Not fair for me to enter your home and get you. It's more game to follow you and take you down.

So in response, it would be a fun sport to do this.

1) It's pretty decent. I'm the best sharp-shooter I know. Well, as far as other bears go... But that, combined with the standard American approach of shooting as much as you can in a short period of time gives me pretty good odds.

2) Well duh, the card itself isn't scary... it's laminated card stock. But these people get pretty fierce defending us endangered species. And you DON"T want to know what happens after they call in PETA.

3) Casinos? Really? You've obviously met some very lame Texans. They must live too close to the Oklahoma border or something. I'm talking native Texan. The sheer Awesomeness of Texas will protect me. It's like the Blessing of Ares or something....

4) Y'know, I'm not sure if a grounding rod would help you or not... This Lightening doesn't seem to follow the normal laws of physics. I mean, come on, how many times have you seen a bear be zapped from one place to another by a freak lightening storm? It might work... maybe.

5) Yeah, she's kinda creepy. That's a good part of the reason why I left.

6) Yes, but do also remember there are legal ramifications for a bear such as myself defending itself against a hunter. Maybe for most bears, but I know people in the legal arena.

Alrighty then, let the games begin. Bring it on.

Uh.... *skirts around the bear hunting conversation*

Hi Pokey! I'm Terenia, although I also answer to Teach and T and occasionally even Jessi (ah! A real name!). I hope you enjoy your time here. As Myitt mentioned, we have a quite active role-playing board (two actually, one that is for Animorphs and one that is General). Out of all the rps our most popular is the Galaxy's Edge Space Bar, which you will find me at frequently. If you enjoy forum-style rps and lots of character development (and mean, mute bartenders) then I highly recommend you take a peek! Just make sure you read the first post of the OOC thread before joining. Here are the pertinent links:

Galaxy's Edge Space Bar (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=2089.0)
GESB: OOC Discussion (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=6830.0)

Don't be scared off by the near-thousand pages. The GESB is the type of roleplay that you can jump into at any time.

Let me know if you need anything, rp or non-rp related! Welcome to RAF!

*runs out, once again skirting around the bear conversation*

Hi Pokey! I love your intro thread, and I like you already! I'm Marie -- welcome!

I hope you make yourself at home on RAF, and I look forward to seeing you around the forum! As Myitt and Terenia said, it'd be great to have you in the GESB if you're interested. It's where I spend most of my time on RAF. See ya 'round!

Or live.

1) How do you see to aim?  Don’t Bears have terrible eyesight?  And how do you pull the pins on those grenades?
2) That only matters *after* he kills you.
3) …So?
4)  I think the grounding rod would work.
5) [spoiler]  (http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n543/donut67077/beard_brush_06.jpg) [/spoiler]
6) What’s this “fair” stuff?

I’m selling PPV tickets to this.  I’m taking Bear’s pelt if he loses.  If Ipsum loses…I guess those sunglasses would be ok.

Welcome to RAF, Lauren.  :)

Apparently parts of this have now been discuss, but your inbox is full: post more, it'll increase your inbox so I'll leave this here for you to find

Not so P PM
[spoiler]Santa shouldn't be one to judge. He's thrown rocks at my window every labor day for 3 non consecutive years.
Texting while cycling; I don't think I'd smite you, I find that's actually pretty self smiting, courtesy of those that text while driving.
You're in for a treat; North is one heck of a hemisphere. Granted I've not been to the Southern, but well, come on. I think we both know that that's the hemisphere for storing souvenirs and marsupials in XD
btw though, since it is still in the subject header. there are a few other biologist on the site. Estrid, I think Myitt, though she might be anthro or something, and others, I forget who. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to push you off-this is a hell of a conversation we've been having, but I just don't want someone *cough*estrid*uncough* to start saying "Robert, why you trying to talk her up like you're the only one on this forum that do biology, bunch of other people are in bio too" etc, and cause another ultimate death battle. Kinda how I got into the last 4 ultimate death battles here.
Though those had more to do with my having sole claim to 8th circuit.
Which I do. Or at least should, but-I'm rabbling Tongue
Sorry, I do that
P.S.
You need to post more so your inbox has more room: I don't now how much you have, but apparently it's already full. I'll try to send this again, but know I didn't just leaving you waiting for days.

rob, since when did i start talking like that? :P

But Rob is right, BIO nerdom is the way of life, and you are invited to join mine and Myitt's Bio nerd club and be our PIC (partner in crime). we have a nerdy DNA double helix handshake ;D

*sigh* really wish that could have remained in PM.
but you've always talked like that kat-least to me. I think you're trying to impress me. Not sure what your logic is but, as I've said before (though admittedly it's been a while)
It's okay kat, i know. And I, nor anyone else can blame you

Haha, a bio nerd club? Where might I find such an appealing sounding abode (or is it metaphorical club that I am probably already a part of, only I'm in the upside down section of the club)? Being a PIC is a role I play well.... mwahahahahaa.. and a double helix handshake sounds so nerdyily awesome I'll have to learn it haha.
Oh btw, how many posts do I have to make to get my inbox more than 5 messages? I am super-dooper-ridiculously busy for the next 2 weeks, and was going to try and resist posting as much as possible (as much as I really want to get into the RP etc) until I have at least a draft of my research proposal done :P Anyway I've cleared my inbox a little now ^^ Sorry for that :D

Sure...I'll give you cookies if we can suck out their sanity, 'cuz J and I haven't gotten to suck out anyone's sanity yet. *pouts* I might give you a cookie even if we can't suck out their sanity. Depends on who it is. Rad is known to be sane...so no cookie if you discover her!

Of course you can Rad! Well, you certainly should be able to.

But then someone probably has to help Lorem.

Maybe Visser 3 is interested? :visser3:

I don't think he would, or could, since he's in prison for like another 800 years.

Lorem is on his own!
