I never read the Alternamorphs spin-off series. Apparently it was horrible. Does anyone think it's possible for a good gamebook based on the Animorphs series? Or was it just a stupid idea from the get go?
-
It's probably possible. The idea behind it wasn't bad. It was the execution that was terrible. And heck, the first alternamorphs is halfway decent. The second one is just crap.
-
I don't remember what I thought about the books, though I believe I read them. I guess it depends if people like those kind of books.
-
Those choose your own adventure books always bothered me. When I was younger they were just confusing.
-
I will never forgive Alternamorphs #1 for screwing up the Visser One plotline right out of the gate. And I will never forgive Alternamorphs #2 for the phrase YOU HAVE ANGERED THE ELLIMIST and for ruining #26's story.
They're terrible. Out of character, bad timelines, loser 'You', un-engaging, pointless. Some day I'm going to do a written review of everything wrong with them. Did you know Alternamorphs #2 actually copy-pastes entire paragraphs from Megamorphs #2?

I used to like the idea of "choose your own adventure" stories until I realised that they are almost always bad. Sadly Alternamorphs was no exception. The second was far worse, but honestly they both read like bad fanfics.
-
2 was so bad, i actually found it necessary to start a thread about it after reading it. vegemorphs was more true to the characters than it was.
-
I liked them at the time. When I was younger, I hated Goosebumps except for the 'choose your own' books, so I was all over Alternamorphs 1. Never even knew 2 existed.

Agreed on the Visser One plotline. Sort of agreed on the angered the Ellimist bit.
To me, it was forgivable because they weren't a part of the main plotline and it gave fans what they wanted. A chance to "be" an Animorph. Since all of the fans knew about Marco, it was fair to say that a good chunk of fans wanted to be the one he trusted with his secret as much as he trusted Jake. And what were the alternatives? Being Tobias' long lost brother/sister? Being Rachel and Jake's cousin/foriegn exchange student relation?
I enjoyed the first one more than the second one and I died about sixteen times before I found the winning plotline. But for the most part, my collection wouldn't have been complete if I didn't have them.

Same here, I read them each once, when I first got them back in the day when they came out. But they do complete my series, so I'd never get rid of them.

I'm confused, I read both of them but how does number one screw up the Visser One plotline?
