There's a debate going on about what form a proposed Animorphs movie should take, but assuming the humans are live action, who would play those roles?
Since it's common Hollywood procedure to have young characters played by actors who are a few years older, I'm guessing whoever portrayed the five human Animorphs would be in the 16-19 age range. So, who would be a good choice to play the following roles?
Jake (My friend thinks Zac Efron could pull this off...) :-X
Rachel (She thinks Kristen Stewart with bleached hair for this one)
Cassie
Marco
Tobias/Human morph Tobias
Ax's human morph
David
Tom
Taylor
The Ani's parents (I know it's not the biggest role, but I'd personally love to see Salma Hayek play Eva)
Loren
Chapman
Melissa
Erek's human hologram
Anybody else you can think of...
-
see.. this is hard for me.. i do like who played Jake in the tv show. i dont think it looked like him.. but it worked.
the actors would have to look or be young. like they're supposed to be. so it's hard for me to think about it.
i honestly don't agree with kristen stewart being rachel.. even blond. she was okay in the joan jett movie, horrible in twilight.. she looks too awkward to be rachel.
I think the YOUNG Antonio Banderas makes me think of Marco. Those lovely eyes and golden skin... ;)

as i said last time this thread was posted, you have to go with unknowns, otherwise you are getting miley cyrus as rachel, and the jonas bros as jake marco and tobias
-
Not necessarily, there's a middle ground between 'complete unknown' and... that.
And he's obviously too old now, but I think Matt Lanter is a great image of an older Jake.

Your friend needes to be burned in hot oil!
Hmmm.....who could play the Anis?...I don't know any actors from age 13-18 who could pull it off. If They did make a live action show/movie they'd need to take a page out of M Night Shaymalan's book(Even if the man did ruined a beloved franchise) and hire a bunch of unknowns or actors who haven't had any publicity.
-
This has been discussed ad nauseum (<- a fave richard quote of mine lol) in two different threads in the past. The general idea was that none of us could really agree on who should play the animorphs and most actors are too well known to fit what we feel the animorphs should be like.
So I'm gonna agree with my boy blue.

not in the age group of animorphs. well i guess you can go for some of the other disney stars, hit up the icarly cast or something, or have zach from zach and cody as tobias. hmm maybe that girl that played hitgirl for rachel? that could actually work in a few years.
-
First, I already said he was too old but is my vision of OLDER Jake. Second, iCarly is Nickelodeon, not Disney. And Third, Jenette McCurdy, Sam on iCarly would actually be a pretty good Rachel in both attitude and look.
-
I actually like the idea of one of the Cole twins playing Tobias, and maybe that other kid froom iCarly, the boy... Dunno his name, never really watched the show, but, anyway, him for Jake maybe? He sorta looks like a geekier version of Jake, but the attitude is wrong from what I've seen of him... But, actors act, and attitudes change. :P

Sorry. I didn't realize I was rehashing stuff that's been done to death already. :-\
-
The girl who played hitgirl definitely would make a badass Rachel in 3 more years or so.
-
Add pics, guys ^^' Please... I don't know the actors/actresses you're talking about, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one ^^'

She isn't hot enough to be Rachel :P

Maybe she could be Melissa.

If only Shia LaBeouf had some Hispanic in him, I think he'd by my pick for a great Marco.
I dunno who else I'd want yet though...other than, as long as we're talking a big film thing for it - Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort in Harry Potter) as the voice of Visser Three. I can smell the win from here!
-
The idea of Zac Efron and Kristen Stewart playing Jake and Rachel could physically pain me. Unknown or Relatively Unknown characters for the win.
The actor who plays Sheldon in Big Bang Theory should be Ax in Human Morph.

a post grad playing a pre highschool student?
-
yeah , I almost agree with red except for actor Jim Parsons's obvious age difference, and the fact that human ax was supposed to be strangely attractive and well, Sheldon is just not attractive.
And there is no way Dylan or Cole sprouse from Zach and Cody could pull off Tobias! And Zac Efron and Kristen Stewart playing Jake and Rachel? UGH!!!
-
In terms of personality, I would love to see Ax played by Sheldon! ;D
Generally speaking though, I agree that they should be played by relatively unknown actors.
-
I think a big problem with choosing a cast for the Animorphs is that the characters are sort of mature beyond their years. Everybody we can think of who would be the right age seems too immature! The trouble with casting the Animorphs actually reminds me of what some Broadway actress said about Shakespeare's Juliet: "As soon as an actress is old enough to understand the part, she's too old to play her."
-
Ax would be really hard to place character-wise, 'cos getting someone that looks at all like him from the book description would be haaard. They didn't even try in the TV show XD
-
If he were younger and you did stuff to his hair, Danny Pudi would probably make a good Ax. He plays Abed on Community, and has a good handle on the "inquisitive, detached observer" style.
-
I've been thinking about this waaay too much. My brain is 40% screenplay.
Since the main cast would be from unknowns, the supporting cast would have to be famous types, to draw in an audience who have no idea (or possibly great interest) in the Animorph contempt. Think Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman in Juno or practically all the parents in Skins. Food for thought? I'm thinking Steve Buschemi as Chapman.
Brooke Nevin was annoyingly perfect for Rachel. Can we un-age her?
-
Ack, I hated Brooke Nevin as Rachel. Somehow Rachel went from bold and sassy in the series to flakey and vacant on the screen. Ugh. Granted, the dialogue she was given didn't help.
-
Yeah, I totally agree about her character. I just meant lookswise, she was pretty spot-on compared to the actor they got for Marco :)
-
Boris Cabrera didn't match much lookwise, but at least he had some moments of decent acting; the Visser One arc moved me from "who IS this kid and where did he put Marco?" to "okay, fine, he needs to lay off on the hair gel but I can live with this". Compared to all the other kids, who ranged from having no screen presence at all like Nadia Nascimiento as Cassie to being some of the most wooden actors I've ever seen on television like Christopher Ralph as Tobias, Boris Cabrera was an okay pick. That said, it took him about ten episodes to realize how to deliver a comical line, so it's not like he didn't suck at the beginning. I'd much rather they go by acting ability than by "look", because Brooke Nevin is just an awful, awful Rachel to me.
I actually really liked the actors who played Peter Jeremy, Visser One and Cassie's mom. They still were dealing with an awful script, but it's kind of like they could turn garbage into gold. The scenes with them are easily some of the strongest in the series, and they tended to bring out better acting in the other actors too.
-
Ah, I'm only four episodes into the tv series and going on that and my memories. I shall have to watch more for Marco moments! The script annoys me so much though, it's like they put barely any effort into it at all!
-
Ugh, don't even get me started on all the things that were wrong with the TV show! The sad thing is that if they'd had a half decent budget and writers who had actually read the books, it could have been truly awesome.
-
I'm up to the second season and oh, yeah, the script is terrible. And sometimes the delivery of lines that worked totally fine in the book series is just cringe-worthy when delivered by those actors. I mean, does Shawn Ashmore ever sound like he's not reading off a teleprompter? And can Christopher Ralph deliver anything without that weird botoxed-looking stare of his?
Boris Cabrera is never a good actor by any means, but there are moments where he's competent (mostly because he's the only one of the kid actors who understands the importance of facial expressions besides "mildly slackjawed"), which puts him leagues ahead of Ashmore, Nevin and Ralph. I really like the scene at the beginning of episode fourteen and he gets his moments where he gives a really cutting death glare or a a good suspicion-face.
And oh God, Eugene Lipinski as Visser Three. My friend and I have taken to imitating Eugene Lipinski at random, because he's either just scraping the level of passable actor and then he'll bust out with some really, really bizarre, over-the-top delivery of a line. "NO! MORE! FAILURES!"
-
Okay, none of the actors from the disney channel please.
You are going to need to find actors who are competant, which is hard for the younger generation.
Unknown actors are much better for the main characters, and then you have a supporting cast of decent adult actors. Personally I think they could bring Ashmore back to play tom, in the episodes where he was controlled, he played an excellent villian.
Also the Juno actress is a big no, she can only portray the emotions of your average stupid teenager.
There is a small chance that you are going to find an effective juvenile actor. If you saw Star Wars I: the Phantom Menace, Natalie Portmans first big role, then you know what I'm talking about: an inteligent fourteen year old leader of a planet who is constantly worried about the suffering of her people, but at the same time is highly curious and has a gentle human touch = difficult role.
The animorphs are going to be hard parts to play, even in the television series they couldn't get most of the characters right. Aside from Marco and Jake, the characters were done wrong. My theory is that the script writers for the television series either simplified the characters or they simply didn't read the freaking books.

My question is this: Is this forum all hopeful, idle speculation? Or has someone heard something about a future in the Animorphs franchise that I am not aware of??
-
^I'm pretty sure this is just speculation.
I think Animorphs would work best animated. As for voice actors, there are many to choose from of course, but either Tara Strong or Grey DeLisLe could play Rachel.
For Live Action, I would go for unknowns.

Maybe if the re-release is a success..
All speculation aside, I don't know how I'd feel about a movie. I'd be too scared they'd ruin it.
-
Me too, although they can hardly ruin it worse than the TV show!
There was a rumour about a movie a while back, but nothing ever came of it. Hardly surprising since even KA herself said it was unlikely. Hopefully if the re-release is popular then we'll hear news of a new TV show or movie, then we can cross our fingers and pray it doesn't suck.
Ideally, I'd like them to do a real TV series, as in not aimed at little kids. If they had good writers, an okay budget, some decent actors and made the episodes 45 minutes long like most shows then we'd be getting somewhere. I also think they should make the characters at least 16. Partly so that they could get away with slightly older actors, but also because they could then make it less suitable for kids.
-
I agree. I've always thought that a live adaptation should be adjusted to be High School age instead of middle school. As good as the series was, in an adaptation like that the 12-13 year old crowd just doesn't seem all that plausible as a group of superheroes. Storylines wouldn't even need that much adjusting, really. :) Should work out nicely
Re-release, huh? I had not heard about that.
This pleases me. Is it possible that they could be changed to fix various KASU's? I know some 2nd and 3rd editions of other novels and series will do this.

Like a really awesome Roswell High :)
-
Roswell's got nothing on Animorphs! 8)
-
I did like Roswell as a kid but there was always something missing... Andalites! :p
-
Exactly! Every book and TV series needs more Andalites! :D
-
Off topic!
This forum is speculative.
Anyways, yes it should be high school, mainly because older actors would be more able to play such deep characters.
And I reapeat the TV show was a horrible mess. Tobias was picked on all of his life, and he is a whimp before he becomes a hawk.
In the TV show they turned him into some sort of cool loner that Rachel falls head over heels for.
-
OMGSSSSS!
I really believe, that with the below actors and actresses (Because, yes, Tobias's actor is NOW an actor! A horrible one, but he is!) Animorphs will become loved by the entire world.
Jake:

Rachel:

Marco:

Tobias:
[spoiler]Bieber Fever! With him, Animorphs will become huge!

Cassie:
[spoiler]The girl from Proud Family!

PS
Please don't think I'm serious with this....
-
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Can you imagine? :p
-
Hahaha. Maybe they could make Animorphs! The Musical.
Though, isn't Zefron in a real movie now? Maybe he can actually do serious stuff!
-
I'd be okay with actors as old as 18-19 playing the Animorphs. It's not unusual for Hollywood to get people in their 20s to play high school students, why not get high school age kids to play middle school age kids? And really, the Anis exact ages are barely ever mentioned. They could easily be in high school and it wouldn't affect the story.
-
Hahaha. Maybe they could make Animorphs! The Musical.
Oh yeah! I want it now! :P
-
Featuring hit songs like "Interspecies Romance" and "Don't Morph That Sentient Creature"!

Seriously, don't even joke about it! :-\
Zeffron? Serious stuff?

I sense a RAFian rock band in our future! ;D
-
Featuring hit songs like "Interspecies Romance" and "Don't Morph That Sentient Creature"!
YES!!
-
With "Blue Centaurs like Cinnamon Buns" and "My Girlfriend becomes a Grizzly Bear when she's Angry!" playing in the closing credits of course. :P
-
And hit ballads like "Mama Mia (is a Visser)" and "Ballad of the Missing Shoes and Sweaters".
-
Huw Proctor for Jake. Look him up.
William Miller for Tobias. Look him up.
Nik Castillo for Marco, but he'd have to play younger.
Willow Smith- Will Smith's daughter for Cassie- this will bring more audience in.
Spencer Locke for Rachel
That's all I have.
-
These are really good choices for a younger cast!
