Greetings, thought I'd pop in and introduce myself instead of just lurking.
I'm Casey, and I'm old enough to do most things where I live except rent a car. Lately job-hunting has been the complete pits, so I reread Animorphs. I actually hadn't read the last dozen or so books before, so I experienced the series finale for the first time. I think I'm one of the few people who actually liked the ending, not that it was perfect, but I was overall satisfied.
My favorite character is Rachel and #2 was the first book I read. Elementary School Me was more interested in the cover with the girl turning into a cat than the one with the boy turning into a lizard, though I grew to love all of the main characters. Rereading the series as an adult, I was completely blown away by the mature issues addressed in the story and now I think Animorphs is more amazing than ever. When I was little I didn't know anyone else who read them, but funnily enough I've discovered that many of my current friends are also fans.
I tend to read more fantasy than sci-fi. Other favorite authors/books include: Tamora Pierce, Diane Duane (Deep Wizardry is possibly my favorite book ever), Lynn Flewelling (I prefer the Tamir trilogy just a bit over the Nightrunner books, surprisingly), George R. R. Martin, and more.
I'm also a fan of anime, manga, and video games. I listen to a lot of Japanese and Korean music, as well as watch a lot of Japanese and Korean dramas. I am occasionally inclined to write fanfiction, but recently I've been more inclined to try writing a book. Emphasis on try.
Believe it or not, I am trying to keep this brief. I sort of have a tendency to talk a lot, so I suppose I'll stop here.

Hiya rebel, nice name :D I'm Tara, welcome to RAF! If you have any questions feel free to ask!
My boyfriend has been trying to get me to read the Game of Thrones series for almost three years now...I swear it's on my to-do list!
-
Ello there! I am Bladeh Mercury!
#2 was the first book I ever remember reading. It was simply because it had a cat on it. (That was a long time ago, and I still remember it) I still love cats.
Japanese is epick! I read a lot of manga and watch anime in my spare time! ;D
And I tend to talk a lot also. I am known among my friends to rant. About Freddie Mercury and Andalites, mostly.
-
Myitt: thanks! The name comes from a song by Onitsuka Chihiro. It's actually been a while since I sat down and reread ASOIAF--awesome series, but super depressing, too. Glad that you're planning to read the first book (eventually lol).
Bladeh Mercury: I'm a cat person as well with two of my own; a temperamental Siamese and a long-suffering DSH. Have any favorite anime/manga series? The other day I was reading about the Bleach plagiarism fiasco... Crazy stuff.
-
Cool, I'll have to see if I can find it. I have a few friends who have lived in or were born in Japan, and we went to visit them in 2008. They really got me into Japanese music outside of whatever I might've seen in anime (most notably I was already into The Pillows--looove them).
And yeah, eventually I'll read them haha...it's only fair, I made Dave finish reading Animorphs!
-
Hi
-
Hi Casey! Welcome to RAF. I also recently reread animorphs as an adult and loved it as much as I did when I was younger. I also really enjoy George R.R. Martin's stuff...I really wish he would release the next book! Anyway, hope you enjoy it here :)
-
Hi there! I'm Jess. Welcome to the forum, we're glad to have you. :)
-
Hi there, I'm Marie! Welcome! We're glad you came out of lurking. Good luck with your novel; that's quite a task, but you can do it! :)
And yes, Tara, you should definitely read Martin's series. Talk about awesome character development...
-
Yeah yeah yeah I'll read them eventually XD Maybe all these Martin fans will finally get Dave to post. The jerk.
-
Hey! Welcome to RAF! I'm Gaz, nice to meet you.
-
*swirls his cloak and enters the room.*
Hello, Rebel, and welcome to RAF. I am the regal, debonair Cloaky, master of the Six Ele-- Shadow if you spray me with that Silly String, I will make you regret it.
*turns back to Rebel.*
Please forgive my neice and Elements Apprentice -- she has a mischievous side. Rebel, you'll find that we here at RAF have a mythos all our own. And it's just a matter of time before you find your niche.
Oh, and before I forget, we all have a RAFspecies -- mine is Realm Walker -- and we need to know yours. (It can be orginal, like mine, or a pre-existing one, like Myitt's (Yeerk).)
-
Hey there! Welcome to the forum! I'm Terenia/Teach and I love Tamora Pierce. :) In addition to Animorphs, of course.
-
wHELLcome, Casey the lucky rebel! ^^
I'm Vis... I'm Dameg, another RAFian. Come with me, please, I have something to show you. It's here, after this door *Open a heavy door* We call them the RAFprojects. *Lead Casey to a long and dark hallway, with many doors, some in the dark, some with light coming from the other side. Arrive near the first door* Here at your left...
- The Ebooks project: [Help wanted!] Animorphs (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0)), Remnants (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html) <= finished), Everworld (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html) <= almost finished, it's our current priority, we need help to correct the volume #3 and check all the volumes to be sure there is no missing page) and GONE (new project?); the Everworld/Animorphs ebooks need to be cleaned a little (mistakes, missing pages, we don't know where the chapters begin and finish, etc.) so if you wanna be a correcter... call me, I head that projects.
Facing it is...
- RAFipedia: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=22.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=22.0), an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);
Next it's...
- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0), a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel;
and here...
- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html), a Webcomic headed by Gafrash.
You also have...
- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html), we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...);
here and facing it is...
- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html), a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks;
Next door is for the special project:
- http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3738.0.html): the adventures of the RAFians;
At the end it's for the little projects:
- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3810.0.html);
- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3911.0.html) to make the planets we hear about in Animorphs;
- the paper-RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^;
- the RPG project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4069.0.html) to make a video game about Animorphs, with RPGmaker;
- the Command-line game project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3787.0.html) for another kind of video game about Animorphs;
- the http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3773.0.html) where we count all the people killed by the Animorphs;
- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3635.msg245735.html#msg245735), where we make songs and sing them...
and some other projects who come and go. Please check the list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,13.0.html)
*Standing in front of Casey* I hope you enjoyed your visit. Oh, and I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html) 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller. ... and if you want, you can add your age too: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,318.0.html)...
Now we saw that, let's talk about the important things ;) But not here in the middle of the hallway, please follow me to the Pool. *Beginning to go down dark stairs. Casey can hear a cry coming from the cave.* Oh, don't worry, you won't go for a swim ^^ Just forget the cages and don't approach the Taxxons, it'll be OK. We could just sit down somewhere and talk about the drama and the music, and Japan... Do you like Nodame Cantabile ? and what are your favorite Japanese bands or singers? ...
-
Hi Casey. Names *looks at name* Meta Knight, for now. So what games you like? Nintendo by chance? some pokemon maybe or perhaps Super smash bros series?
-
Hey Casey ^_^ Welcome to RAF. It sounds like you'll fit right in here. Look around, enjoy yourself. I'm sure you'll find no shortage of things to do here. Glad to have you :)
-
Wow, nice welcomes from everyone! :)
As far as gaming goes... Growing up I was mainly a Playstation girl, so I'm a big Final Fantasy fan. But don't talk to me about 13 because at the moment I have no access to a PS3 or 360. :( I do have Pokemon Diamond, though, and I've played SSBB (Meta Knight is pretty awesome btw). I also like Halo, Assassin's Creed (played AC2 on my brother's 360 and I've been missing it like crazy ever since), and Silent Hill.
On the anime/manga front, I've been keeping up with Skip Beat!, Kimi ni Todoke, Genbu Kaiden, Saiyuki, Wild Adapter, xxxHolic, and Until Death Do Us Part. Some other long-time favorites include: X/1999 (when is CLAMP ever going to finish this, seriously), Gundam Wing (hurray, gateway anime drug), Code Geass (I will totally admit that I can't watch the ending without crying), and Prince of Tennis (...I don't know what to say for this one). Numerous others, too, but those are probably my basics. I haven't read Nodame Cantabile, though it's been on my to-read list for a while.
Music-wise, my #1 Japanese band is L'Arc~en~Ciel. I also like UVERworld and Bump of Chicken. Some Janne Da Arc and Acid Black Cherry, too. Lately, though, I've been more into Kpop--groups like Epik High, TVXQ, and Big Bang. I highly, highly recommend Epik High:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnjpWgPLxk0[/youtube]
Seriously, they are awesome.
-
George r.r.martin ftw! I can't wait for the next book in his fire and ice series... =) anyway, nice meeting you! Hope to see you around!
-
*_* So cool!! Another girl who likes Silent Hill!! I'm also a Silent Hill girl! And a PSX/PS2 girl! And a FF girl! lol
For Nodame Cantabile, I haven't read the manga nor seen the anime yet, but I can tell you the drama is just awesome! Everybody should watch it ^^
My Japanese favorite bands are Buck Tick, Orange Range and Porno Graffitti. I also like the bands like Dir en Grey... I haven't listen so much L'arc en ciel yet, but if I remember well it's nice too ^^ Oh, and Kanon Wakeshima who is just beginning but her music is sweet:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MR8fHvQu48[/youtube]
Good song you added too ^^
-
:D Silent Hill is awesome! I haven't played Shattered Memories yet, and I've only played a little bit of 5. The combat system in 5 destroyed me. :( I really enjoy the others in the series, though.
Ooh, the Nodame Cantabile drama stars, um, what's-his-name... Tamaki Hiroshi! I adored him in Love Shuffle.
Creepy song, but cool. Vampire Knight, huh? I read some of the manga a long time ago, but it didn't really grab me. I remember liking Kaname, though.
-
You liked Kaname?! :o lol My favorites are Zero and Idol.
I haven't played Shattered Memories ('coz it's new in France, and I try to not spend money...), nor SH 5 ('coz I don't have any Xbox360 yet, for the same reasons), nor Origins ('coz I just don't play a lot on PS2 since I bought it...). But I've finished all the other ones. I make the collection of survival horror games ^^ (if I have the console who go with... so on PSX/PS2 and Game Cube for now, later on Xbox/Xbox360 too). We have a thread for the horror games: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3224.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3224.0.html)
If you like the vampires, we have a thread for them ^^ So even if you didn't like so much Vampire Knight, maybe you liked other vampires? Here it is: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4153.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,4153.0.html)
You can begin a thread for the Japanese music, if you want ^^ even if not so many RAFians listen to this kind of music, I'm sure some people would enjoy it.
-
Haha, I read it years ago, though, so the story wasn't very far along. Maybe if I reread it now I'd change my mind.
I only got to play 5 once when visiting a friend. I got stuck at a boss because my health was really low and I had no healing items. :( Origins was fun, though. I think my favorite has to be 4 since it was the first one I played.
Thanks for the links! I'll check those out.
lol I was thinking of starting a thread to introduce more people to Epik High, actually. I feel like they're accessible to people who don't normally listen to Asian music, but that could just be my bias speaking.
-
Strange that you prefer the 4! The 1st is the best! ;D Well, I did them in order ^^
In the first, I also had issues with the health. Twice I had no healing items, no bullet, and had to go thought streets with monsters (the second time there were a lot of monsters >_<)... It was crazy! lol
-
Yay, another Silent Hill fan! I have: Silent Hill: 0rigins (PS2), an emulated SH1 for the PC (which friggin' crashed :(), SH2 (PS2), SH3 (PS2), SH:H (PS3), and SH:SM (PS2)(haven't played it yet). I just need 4! But I've beaten it before. My SH:H is a super mega glitch-fest on the Scarlet boss though. Can't beat it 'cause it's screwed up. I fail at 0rigins. No health, not much ammo and I hate that you can't switch to 3D movement! I love SH3. It's my favorite. It also has the best unlockables in my opinion (beam saber, hell yeah!). It was also the first one I ever played. But I could talk about Silent Hill all day so I'll shut up now.
By the way, I'm VisserZer0. Nice to meet you, rebelxluck and welcome to RAF! If you ever get a PS3, feel free to add me on PSN. Name is VisserZer0 there too.
-
lol You too? ^^' I also can talk about survival horror games all the day, and make people really bored...
We should talk more together about them!
-
Except that you've played a wide expanse of survival horror while I, however, have really only played SH and RE games. I'll make sure to post (mostly spoiler free) about Shattered Memories when I play it in 1 1/2 weeks! Though I still really want to play Fatal Frame. Sadly, though, I think Borderlands is going to succeed in zapping away the majority of my free time.
*coughshouldstartasurvivalhorrorthreadcough*
-
So play some other survival horror games!
And I didn't play all of them yet! ;)
-
Sadly, I suffer from lack-of-money-and/or-xbox syndrome.
-
So sad... If you didn't have this Xbox syndrome, at least you could play the games the :pirate: way...
-
...unless you know of an Xbox emulator that I could use to play Fatal Frame. They're impossible to find and eBay's tricky.
