Title: Account Deletion
Post by: Visser One on February 24, 2010, 09:41:18 PM
Hi! I'm not sure where else to ask this, so sorry if it's in the wrong place. I got an email that said my account would be deleted (probably since I haven't posted in a while). Is there a way to prevent this? I usually lurk around, but I don't have much time to post on a lot of stuff right now. Thanks for answering!

Once you've posted your account will not be up for deletion.

Thanks for answering, although I just got another email saying my account would be deleted yesterday. Do I have to post every month or once every so many days or something?

Come on guys, you should post every once in awhile without the threat of deletion hanging over your heads to do it. Jump into a conversation. If you're lurking long enough, you should know that no one here bites.

I know, I know. It's a great forum. I come here periodically if I have something to say, but I'm in law school now and it's gonna be finals week soon. I just don't have time. Please stop with the deletion emails, I swear I'm not an absentee member.

The thing is, it's probably an automated system. I could be wrong, but most likely it's just a matter of the system periodically purging inactive accounts.

How exactly does it work? Because there's about... 20 pages of people who've never posted?

:shrug: I'm just curious.

It doesn't work. The system threatens users who haven't posted. It doesn't delete them until I say so. And I am not deleting anyone (yet).

Ohh. Okay. ^_^ That makes a lot more sense to me.

Dunno if it's too early for me to have a say in such matters, but I'll just tip-toe in here, I guess.

From what I know of this forum, it seems heavily relient on member interaction and donation (as are most forums).
Sure, lurking may be great on certain imageboards, but they don't have to worry about user donation when they get money for advertising on their site.

Personally, I didn't lurk when I got here. I found these forums, and with a cry of "AWESOME!" I was a member.
If too many people lurk, the forums risk getting stale and we all lose out. The automated deletion message seems to be a way of saying "You know you're allowed to talk here, right?".

Anyway, this is an Animorphs forum (for the most part). If you've read any of the books or anything by K.A., you've already got common ground to talk about. And even then there's the general discussion board.

</10 cents worth>
