Im not good when it comes to introducing myself, the 'spotlight above my head' thing isnt very appealing to me. So when it comes to introducing myself to a group of people, I tend to tell them a story about my life, no doubt an embarrassing story but it makes the process a bit more bearable for everyone.

My name is Ellie. And this may seem a bit sad to you, or maybe you can relate, but my first crush wasn't exactly what you would call 'normal'. It wasn't a hollywood movie star, or the boy in primary school who would always put paint in my hair. It wasn't the hot music teacher or the boy next door. It was. . . Marco. Sweet, funny, charming, cute, witty Marco. But there were problems, how was an 11 year old year old girl meant to elope with the boy she adored if she doesn't know his last name. The phone directory was not going to work. Oh and how was this relationship going to work when poor, adorable Marco was a fictional character from a book? Of all the boys out there who I could be crushing on, I had to pick one who wasn't even real. So, I spent my teenage years looking for a boy who was cute, witty, charming, indifferent, clever and sarcastic all in one. If I couldn't have the real deal then I wanted at least someone like him. Marco was perfect for me, everything I could ever want all wrapped up into one person. But throughout those horrible teenage years, I never found him. 'So not fair' I thought, all my friends in highschool got to date boys who they liked, and although I dated, it wasn't anyone who I liked enough. So highschool finished, I graduated and I realised something. Out of the 50 girls in my year I was one of the two girls who had not gotten pregnant. (New Zealand does have the highest teenage pregnancy rate, and my school wasn't exactly a school owned by nuns.)Sure my obsession for a boy who didn't exist was pathetic, but it made me so determined to get what I wanted, that at 17 years old I wasn't knocked up, had been accepted into university and wasn't in rehab for a drug or alcohol addiction. Isn't it amazing how one book can affect your life so much? Now at 21 years old I am married to the most amazing guy. He is witty, charming, cute, funny, loving. . . .etc . . . , and I owe it all to the Animorphs. :)

Aw, it's too bad you never found Marco.  I'm sure he would have died of happiness to hear that a girl was so taken with him.  Then again, being Marco, he probably would have said something like, "Take a number."  But congratulations on finding his real-world counterpart.

Welcome to RAF Ellie, hope you enjoy it here as much as the rest of us do. :)

I know what you mean about Animorphs having such a big impact on our lives. Animorphs was the first book series I ever really read for fun and now I read all the time and plan to write my own books someday. I also love animals, took a college course in Animal Care and now work at a zoo. I've also met some awesome people here on RAF. Who knows how differently life might have turned out without Animorphs?
