Title: Hork-bajir mythology
Post by: Galladerotom on November 18, 2009, 07:25:20 PM
According to the origional myths of the hork-bajir the earth was created by father deep and mother sky and where father deep resides is where where monsters are.
The beginings of greek mythology are almost the same: it began with nothing but chaos then Gaia the earth goddes and Uranus the sky god they had many children but many of these children were horrible monsters.

Strangly enough the Hork-Bajir mythology is also a metaphor, the arn in the deep created the Hork-Bajir and the sky and the trees and valleyes gave them their way of life and nursed the Hork-Bajir to become a dominant species but peacful.

Finally the Andalite creation of the quantum virus is very similar to opening of pandora's box all the tragety missery and distuction is finally unleashed but Jara Hamme and Aldrea gain one thing: Hope.

I honestly never thought of that, but you're right! Well spotted. I'm a fan of Greek mythology (and metaphors) so I like this idea. I'm actually a little embarrassed I didn't spot this myself.

It's possible that it could be a coincidence (at least the first part) but the similarity between Pandora's Box and the container that held the quantum virus is actually very noticeable now that you've pointed out. Since the Pandora myth is so well known, it's quite likely that this was intentionally symbolic of the Greek legend. Especially since KA clearly has an interest in mythology (eg. Everworld) and has shown other metaphors in the series (eg. Ellimist and Crayak being the obvious symbol of good against evil or God versus Satan).

Especially when you consider that like Pandora's box the Quantum virus was released by Dak and Aldrea that they had taken from Alloran (Zeus)

Pandora didn't steal the box from Zeus. He gave it to her (or in some versions her husband/lover) to look after.
