Title: Good Evenin' All
Post by: Thea on October 01, 2009, 03:26:45 PM
Greetings. I draw things, I sleep at inappropriate times, I read things, and insult cats. I wear a hat, pay no attention to anything resembling an intelligent plot, obsess over werewolves, drink tea, and refuse to get a haircut. My heroes are Anton LaVey, Stan Winston, and Edgar Allan Poe. That's all there is to know about me.

If ever you behold a short, skinny, dazed-looking goth with brown and black hair down to her arse with all manner of shiney things on her and through her complete with a perpetual in-built scowl who seems to have wandered to her current location purely by accident, you're probably looking at me.

Probably.

I'm new here and suitably scared and confused. I will spare you the predictably generic 'I LOVE ANIMORPHS' and will instead greet you with a 'I REALLY REALLY LOVE ANIMORPHS' instead. If you mention the TV series to me I will cry, and at University I was known as the girl who would stand there in corridors drawing these weird blue centaurs all over her notes. I got a few of them hidden in here. http://theraevyn13.deviantart.com/

How're you?

Hey, good to see you here!  You already know me from DeviantArt, of course.  Here I am known as DinosaurNothlit, but you can call me Dino, DN, or Nothlit.  Most people seem to pick the first two.

By the way, from your description of yourself, it sounds like you will fit in wonderfully here.

However, you might want to be cautious about insulting cats.  Some of the cats around here will insult you back.

'loooo Jess.

Damn, those kitties and me are at war. I chased one today 'cos he both crapped and peed in my garage, but I didn't catch the thing. He sat just behind the hole he sneaked in through and stared at me, taking a good ol' crap as he did so. I'm gonna get 'im.

..kitties don't like me a lot

*swirls his cloak, enters the room.*

Hello, Raevyn.  My name is Cloaky, the local Realm Walker and Master of the Six Elements.  Be sure to check out the RAFized songs!

*begins to swirl his cloak before remembering to mention something.*

Oh, your sanity.  The seal will be after it.  She is persistant, so resistance is pointless.

*Swirls his cloak and leaves the room.*

And, cue the seal!

Why hello there!  I'm the seal, but you can call me Horsie, Horse, Or Seal.  Welcome to RAF, or the Loony Bin!  I'm sure you'll have a great time here!

But I do need your sanity.  Please.  No-sanity rule around here, it's for...well, sanitary purposes.  Do you know how hard it it to get sanity out of fur?  REALLY HARD.  So, you'll just lose it over time, so can I have it now?  Please?  Cause once Cloak got it on his cloak too.  So,

Again, welcome!  RAF's a great place to be, and I look forward to seeing you around!  :)

Aw, seal! Cloak was right. You can have it, I'm gonna quote Poe at you - "I have gone insane with moments of horrible sanity." he uttered that when he was in one of many massive depressive periods. Was in so much pain he went nuts from his anxieties and neuroses, that it was when he was sober and sane that he realised how bad things were. Poor sod. I do love him.

Another raven lover? I heard there's another, I hope I don't look like a copycat, really I just adore corvids and associate with them very much.

Welcome to raf, you remind me of someone. Did we meet in a past life or something?

'lo! Perhaps.. What's the someone like?

wHELLcome, Raevyn!!!
First, I wanna say it's good to see a new goth, new drawer and new English here ;) Your drawings are very cool, and I hope you'll join http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,26.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/board,26.0.html) Project!

About the projects, I have to tell you (because I'm the guide of the RAFprojects ;) ) about them:

- The Ebooks project: [Help wanted!] Animorphs (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0)), Remnants (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,157.0.html) <= finished) and Everworld (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,331.0.html)); we need somebody to scan the volume #10 of Everworld, and the other Everworld/Animorphs ebooks need to be cleaned a little (mistakes, we don't know where the chapters begin and finish, etc.) so if you wanna be a correcter... call me, I head that projects.

- RAFipedia: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=22.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=22.0), an encyclopedia headed up by Estelore, our star (a true star, who make light and burn in space... but she has a body to come on Earth);

- the Audiobooks project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php?board=15.0), a full-cast audio version of Animorphs who need more "actors" and voices, headed by Kit Cloudkicker (Jess), MrGuy, Morfowt, and Wildweathel;

- the Translation project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1907.0.html), a recently started project/mutual support group for translations into other languages; currently only in French (Tocade, Anidragon and myself), Chinese (Morfowt), Indonesian (Nat), Swedish (Mira and Zana), and Esperanto (Wildweathel); we translate only the volumes never edited in our countries/languages, to make the ebooks;

- the Graphic Novel project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,416.0.html) and http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2276.0.html), a Webcomic headed by Gafrash.

- the RPG project: a role-playing game (on table, with paper, pen and dices...) about the World of Animorphs; I head this project, and it'll be write in French at the beginning, but we need help to find, class and write everything we know about the species, the planets, the powers we see in Animorphs, fix them, see what we keep and what we can't keep (because of the KASU, not clear, exception for the main characters/books, etc.), complete the knowledges about species/planets we know and even create new species/planets...; this project will be on my own website, so if you wanna join, ask me the link ^^ ;

- the Smiley project: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,1691.0.html), we make Animated gifs, smileys about Animorphs (Andalites, Hork-Bajirs...);

- the RAFkaraoke: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,3150.0.html), where we make songs and sing them... It's pretty new... But please sing with us!

I also invite you to add your species on this list: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2154.0.html) 'coz everybody isn't Human here. And we like to know who is what... For example, as you'll probably see, I'm a Controller.

My heroes are Anton LaVey
It's really rare to hear that ^^ And I can't stop myself to ask you if you're satanist or if you follow some satanist's precept. Of course I'm talking about LaVey's satanism, totally different to the sect where people revere Satan etc. etc. (I say for the few RAFians who are still shocked by some things... they're really few ^^')

At least, YOU won't be shocked by my amazingly cute avatar ^^ Gloomy Bear rules!!!!

Holy hell, wHELLcome is possibly the best greeting I've ever heard, thank you! Firstly, I gonna read that list but yer going to have to give me a few hours to do so, haha, is intense!

Aye, Satanist here. Been one for yonks. I am still reluctant to say it out loud because, as you said, 98% of the population don't know the difference between a Satanist and a Devil worshipper. As in, we know the devil doesn't actually exist, nor do we kill cats or people and every time I read a newsarticle stating 'Young boy killed in Satanist ritual' I start to go purple and *POPS*

Ahem. Are you one too? Be nice to find one who appreciates Animorphs aswell, that's unique, haha.

Sadly I have not heard of Gloomy Bear. I am willing to be regarded as a failure for this. However, I gonna look into him now!

Haha ^^ Don't worry, take your time. You're already one of the few new members who answer to my welcome message ^^' I'm not even sure 50% of them read it and go to check the projects. So I'm already happy you do it ^^

I usually say I'm atheist, not satanist. But if you prefer, I'm an half-satanist ^^ I just don't really care now.
Don't worry, you're under my protection ^^ Nobody would attack Esplin's (future)wife's protégé ^^ (about it, come to our marriage, please: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2438.0.html (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2438.0.html) (it'll be this WE, I hope))

Don't worry about Gloomy Bear, it's just a Japanese fashion bloody "teddy" bear... ^^

Have fun on RAF!!!

PS: If you like video games (and particularly survival horror), you'll be my RAFlittle-sister ^^

I am a massive fan of computer games, though I tend to do more fantasy and anthro. I got one sort of survival Horror, it's called Project Zero and it once frightened me so badly that I swore, jumped, turned it off and shoved it under the bed where it remained for six months.

Japanese horror. Scares. Me.

Meep
Title: Re: Good Evenin' All
Post by: Dameg on October 02, 2009, 10:44:09 AM
Hahaha Project Zero is awesome!!! ^^ (for American RAFians: Project Zero = European name of Fatal Frame)
OK, I've decided, you're my RAFsister now ^^
I also like FF and some other RPG games. In fact, take a look at this: http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2997.msg272468.html#msg272468 (http://animorphsforum.com/forum/index.php/topic,2997.msg272468.html#msg272468)
I'm totally addicted to video games... I'd need a cure ^^' But I don't care! I love survival horrors, and I can help you to find some less-scary games, if you want. I also know some who are half RPG half survival horror, or "horror RPG" (don't know how to call them...).
Title: Re: Good Evenin' All
Post by: Thea on October 02, 2009, 10:56:08 AM
Whoo! Also your survival horror list is almost as big as my entire range of computer games. Although I did recently get addicted to buying old catridges for the old Game Boy and playing them until I fell asleep. Mario and Yoshi is my drug.

I always wanted to play the Suffering, mainly because of the stupid news articles about it (boy plays it, goes out kills people, naturally it's the game's fault). Abe's Oddysey! Exoddus! I used to line up all the Mudokuns in a row, then kill one of them to make the rest depressed. Then I would smack each one of them and then watch them smack them in the head until they all died. Alternatively, I'd smack one, he'd turn round and smack the other, then the other, then..smack smack smack. Then sometimes I'd possess a slig and beat the liddle mudokuns. Sometimes I'd fart right next to the slaves so they moved away, and sometimes I'd activate the invincibility cheat and let the fleeches slap me with their tongues over and over but getting no meal.

Sometimes I'd actually play the game properly.

I did all those FF games, I fell ridulously in love with Kimahri and bought a massive anthro statue of him. X is da favourite. Though I want to put Wakka in a blender. Ya? Although the fight gameplay on XII was kinda fun. Good for the lazies
Title: Re: Good Evenin' All
Post by: Dameg on October 02, 2009, 11:55:23 AM
lol You had fun with Abe's games ^^ Those games are amazing, very funny, and it's sad they don't make more games like that.

About FF, VII & VIII & X are my favorite. I also love the intro music of FFVI!!! >_< Can't stop listening to it! Maybe it's why I began the game again and again and never go far lol
You really loved Kimahri? Funny ^^' My favorite was Rikku, in FFX.
Final Fantasy and Shadow Hearts are my favorite RPG series. Shadow Hearts is the one I called a "Horror RPG". There are 3 games, they're amazing, but... rare now ^^' You can't have them easily and for a good price now, unless you're very lucky! Another who is half-RPG-half-survival-horror is Parasite Eve. You can find the 1st game in emulation, 'coz it was on console only in Japan, but the 2nd one is on PSX. About the less scary survival horror: Silent Hill 2 (it isn't really scary 'coz the monsters are usually easy to kill, except the boss like pyramid-head), Aloe in the Dark 1 (the oldest ;) not scary at all), Resident Evil (all of them, it's surprising, but not really scary), Rule of Rose (the monsters are little children... it must be OK ^^), and maybe also Obscure ('coz you can play with a friend, so you're 2 to fight the zombies... must help you too ^^). You also may like Primal, it isn't a survival horror, but it's funny AND goth (the main characters are a gargoyle and a goth girl!) ;)
My problem with Project Zero (you can see I didn't finish any of them) isn't that I'm scary, but that I ALWAYS loose my way in the houses!! After a while, I just don't remember where I come from and where I go, what I should do and what I already did!! >_<

'lo there, nice to meet you too. I can't remember when I started fangirling Poe, I sorta just realised ages ago that we're really similar. We go through lots of the same things, hah. Um, except Tuberculosis, but other than that..So I went and read all his works and decided that I wanted to marry him. Every time it's his birthday I run around declaring 'Happy Birthday Poe!' and did it extra loud on his last one, which was his 200th. God bless the manic depressive anxious tortured generally doomed sod. Love 'im.

Which is your favourite story? I'm a fan of The Premature Burial, because it's just sheer horror. Really, it's so horrible. I get ticked off that The Fall of the House of Usher is widely considered to be his best and most famous work, I thought it was kinda lame compared to a lot of the other ones.

I recently read his biography, just been published, you seen it? Sadly I can't go and look up the title because I recently took off from home and had to leave all my books behind, but it's, ah, white. It's pretty good. Goes into great detail from cradle to grave. Speaking of, how do you think he died? There's so much confusion and sometimes conspiracy about that, did he kill himself, did he overdose, was it consumption, did someone he owed gambling money to off him..all that stuff. Personally I'm convinced that he killed himself, I believe it to be impossible to have such a mind and demeanor and life as him and to not! Prolonged severe depression, alcohol abuse, father issues,  being a failed author until the very last second of his life, all the women he loved died, overwhelming anxiety and neuroses, and above all, the most dark, depressing, horrific, psychologically deviant literature ever written. And it was so much easier to get ahold of various barbituates and general drugs in those days. his entire life sort of led up to it, the way I see it. Ah well that's my conspiracy, hah, what's yours?

Honestly, as cliché as it may seem, I adore The Raven. But, aside from that, my absolute favourite has to be The City By The Sea, ever read it? Amazing poem.

And I believe he killed himself. Honestly, no one that was that tormented his entire life could rightfully have died any other way. Suicide was/is a fitting end for a man like Edgar.

And, to admit something rather embarrassing, I've never actually read The Fall Of The House Of Usher. >_<

I haven't read a great deal of his works, never really had the time. I've been reading quite a bit of them recently, though.
I'll read Premature Burial and The Fall Of The House Of Usher next. :)

I've been a fan of his ever since I was 7 and my Mother read my and my Brother The Raven on Halloween, I knew then that I loved his work. :)

What's your favourite line from one of his works?
Mine has always been "Deep into the darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before".

How're you?

That intro is one of my top faves now..

Welcome to RAF, Raevyn :) I'm Ash, feel free to hit me up whenever.

Hi Raevyn, welcome to RAF! Apologies for the late response to your intro, but you sound cool and it's a pleasant surprise to see a fellow Brit on here. Being a night person really pays off on here if you live in England because that's usually when our fellow RAFians are online!

How're you?

Hi Raevyn, welcome to RAF! Apologies for the late response to your intro, but you sound cool and it's a pleasant surprise to see a fellow Brit on here. Being a night person really pays off on here if you live in England because that's usually when our fellow RAFians are online!

Your drawings are awesome by the way.

Hallo, fellow Brit,  jolly good and wot wot and tip top and all that! *bows*

Okay, I must be having early on-set senility. I could've sworn I posted here.

anyhow, I officially welcome you to RAF! (Even though I swear I've done so before  >:( )

I, again, am Spartan-281

Nice to, once more, make your acquantance.

As I've stated in chat and/or What's your spieces, I love Poe's work, though I've only read 2-3 of his poems.

I don't think I could be called a fanboy for anything. I love certain games, but not to the extent of knowing EVERY thing about it.

I believe the only subject I could POSSIBLY be called a fanboy for, is HALO. I love me some HALO. I've read the book series (save the last two releases), I own every HALO game released, I even own a few *cough-several-cough* HALO merch; and display it openly in my room.

I also love two other VG series, but can't be labeled a fanboy about:

One is Final Fantasy, my all time fave is FFVII. I wish upon wish that they remake VII for the PS3, I'd buy a PS3 for that game alone. I liked VIII, but it seemed lacking compared to VII (Drawing Magic pissed me off). FFX really kicked ass, especially with the audio track! FFX-2 was decent, very girly, but after I got passed that, it was a cool game. FFXI was a rip off if you played it on Xbox 360, and FFXII was disappointing to say the least. I'm really excited to play FFXIII! I like the Barrett-esque character.

The other VG series is Metal Gear Solid. Hideo Kojima is a god! I played that game so many times that I began dreaming in the game's format!
Hideo's direction and stories are amazing. And Solid Snake is just the coolest hero since Batman!

anyway, there ends my rant.

Hello! Be proud to be a Halo fanboy - I got a couple of massive computer game figures in my room, including my Kimmy (Kimahri) which i shipped from Canada. I've never played Halo but I likes the look of it, shooting stuff over and over can seldom go wrong.

I was a little disappointed by FXII, I enjoyed the gameplay a lot but wasn't amused with the politics and oh my god the ending they killed the only two characters that I liked! Noo!

I seen lots of screenshots for a potential VII remake, I fear that they'll only remain potential though, sadly.

There's an FFXIII?

I would be proud of being a fanboy. I just don't believe I qualify.

I take by your earlier mention of liking "Computer games", that you aren't a big fan of console game. :(

Halo is an amazing story, and the gameplay is immensly awesome. The characters are so cool.

There's going to be a FFXIII!!! There should be some clips of teaser trailers on You Tube. All of the previews I saw are on Xbox LIVE.

Actually I've no idea what the difference is between console game and computer game!

Are you being serious? If you've played FFVII, you should know the difference.

HALO: Combat Evolved is also a computer game. You should check it out.

Have you played the FFVII variant games yet? Like Derge of Cerberus?
Title: Re: Good Evenin' All
Post by: Dameg on October 06, 2009, 06:28:58 AM
Derge of Cerberus is totally different to the other FF. I heard it wasn't so good, so even if I really like the character of Vincent, I never try it. Did you try, Parker?
And Raevyn, I hope you heard at least about FFVII Dirge of Cerberus, right? ^^'

Derge of Cerberus was decent for it's own game. The gameplay was complicated because it was new. The story, oh my god the story was awesome! You got to see the other FFVII characters and hear their voices, you got a LOT more insight into Vincent's past and the origin of Sephiroth. If you're a FFVII fan, and want to learn more about the characters, that game is a must. Even if you just rent it. You should definitely try it out.

'Cause with RAFchat, you have to register for that specifically.

Quote
Aye, Satanist here. Been one for yonks. I am still reluctant to say it out loud because, as you said, 98% of the population don't know the difference between a Satanist and a Devil worshipper.

Well, as far as I know the distinction lies as follows:

Devil-worshiper: one who worships a eldil (a supernatural being capable of reason--by the way, did you know that Christianity lacks a good "official" word for this.  We have "angel" and "demon" but nothing for both, so I'm borrowing C. S. Lewis's.) who opposes divine law.

Satanist: a mystic in the religious tradition of Pragmatism, one who sets reason in opposition to all other things.  Satanists in this age often do not believe in the existence of eldils, or anything supernatural for that matter, thus "satanic devil-worshiper" is usually a contradiction in terms, at least in modern times.

Pragmatism (religious thread): one of the four threads of human religion (the others being Trancendentalism, Paganism, and Charismaticism).  Pragmatism is generally focused on the pursuit of happiness through sober realism and rationality.  "God is dead," proclaims Nietzsche, and offers that humans have always sought power, and "ought" (if that word can be used outside of morality) to do so through the most effective means: rationality, scientific engineering, etc.

There are two distinctions that distinguish Satanists from other pragmatists.  First, they embrace the title "Satanist" explaining it as meaning "one who is opposed."  Second, they accept the human need for ritual rather than repressing it.  Is that about right?

Anyway, the werewolf community has occasional problems with furiosaj, those who refuse socialization.  Quite a few furiosaj are quite literally devil-worshipers, since when one myth intrudes in your life, it's hard to dismiss others and next thing you know, some demon is materializing and demanding fealty (since he can).  For the same reason, Satanism proper is rare ("There's nothing but the material word."  Sure a werewolf can believe that--for the three and a half weeks a month you don't feel the moon's call.)  Ugly business, since by treaty, we're supposed to police our own kind with rather harsh penalties if we don't.

Dude, please stop mythologizing me!  I am unusual, but it's not because I have unusual talent.  Just unusual experience and (most importantly) an unusual outlook on the world.

Any RAFian can do what I do*, it's just a matter of reading a lot, learning to touchtype, and practicing "speaking" through text.

*or rather, something having as much quality (if not more), yet different in style.  Everyone develops a different style.  Thank God.  It'd be so boring otherwise.

@wildweathal, hello! You probly do know Stan Winston but don't know it. He's a special effects master, he owns his own studio. He created Terminator, Alien queen, Pumpkinhead, Iron Man, Small Soldiers, Edward Scissorhands, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, Manimal, and a few thousand other things besides. I love him. Sadly he died about a year ago. I still mourn him. He was my idol.

Your definition of Satanism rocks. Is nice to find someone who has a clue, hah. What was that about the werewolves, sorry, I didn't quite understand!
