This is an idea i got after reading this fic (http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-11944/Mediancat+Martian+Manhunter.htm). What if the Ellimist gave David a second chance at life after Crayak abandoned him? The thing is it would be in another reality, the Buffyverse circa 1998 to be specific. Thanks to the nonuse of actual years in Animorphs I can explain away that he was really into the show and committed to memory everything that would happen from the point he finds himself in the Buffyverse all the way to 'Not Fade Away' about six years later.
I envision it as one fic for each "season" plus two extra.
The first one would be exclusively Buffy season 3 with David trying to find a place in the 'verse.
The second would the extra one and would be him on a quest for something (I know what it is, but I'm not telling til I get a good way into the first fic. If you think real careful you might guess.)
The third would be season one of Angel with a possible trip to Sunnydale at some point.
The fourth would be a mix, though primarily Buffy rather then Angel.
The fifth would be a comparatively short piece set at the end of seasons 5 and 2 of Buffy and Angel respectively.
The sixth would be mostly David away from both LA and Sunnydale before leading back into Angel towards the end of season 3.
The seventh would be Angel season 4 up until a canon transition over to Buffy season 7 all the way up to the end of the series.
The eighth would have him showing up at Wolfram & Hart for season 5 of Angel.

I've not seen many decent David fics, but I think this has definite potential. I've seen enough of your work to know you can write well, and I'm a big fan of Buffy and Angel. :)
Also (and this applies to your other Buffy fic too) I am interested in seeing if you plan on making vampires/demons compatible with the morphing technology. Magic and technology don't tend to mix well, not to mention the fact that vampires are technically dead, but I'm sure you could find a way around that.

in theory, acquiring a vampire would turn you into a human version of them. demons would probably work as expected. vampires and demons arent really magic per se.

Vampires are a negative, no heartbeat = no bloodflow therefore no DNA acquiring. Certain demons like The Beast from S4 of Angel probably don't have blood. Of course David's getting sent to the Buffyverse as a human and without powers, so take the fact that I've considered how is would work as you will.
Also, magic and tech have very little trouble mixing in the Buffyverse. What with Willow's magic hacking and that one time she accidently summoned the demon on the internet.

It's been specifically said that they couldn't acquire dead animals, and in the Buffyverse vampires and demons ARE magical.

what if at the end of book 48 rachael does put him back on the island. some time later he gets off and after some wandering he stumbles on to the time matrix. then he goes back in time to the events of book 20 and tells himself not to be a douche and get drunk with power.

I'm glad your doing this personally David gets a really bad rep but he wasn't so bad........if you count out trying to kill the crew multiple times lol
