I am just now realizing that Toby never got the morphing power. Wouldn't she have been useful on certain missions like Erek was and she was a super genius. I know that she was governing the Valley of the Hork Bajir but she could have helped. I would have liked to see things from her point of view.
-
I would have liked to see more focus on Toby, as well as other things. Some books narrated by her, and whatnot. Morphing ability, yes. And maybe have her leanr how to be a great tactician.
-
I think I remember they considered giving Toby the morphing power in one of the later books, when they were looking to increase their forces. I can't remember the exact circumstances...
Wasn't she leading missions to free more Hork-Bajir, though?
Or possibly the Animorphs may have wanted to leave the Hork-Bajir alone and not involve them in the war too much.
-
I assume that as soon as she was old enough, she led all expeditions to free Horks. I would have liked to read more about it. All I remember was they dug small holes and put unconscious Hork's heads in there to make them stay out longer. Less oxygen, I guess.
-
yeah but how old was she for that mater how do hork-bajir age
-
they considered giving the power to the free hork-bajir, but decided that they weren't mentally strong enough to power down the morph's instincts. But they never did mention why they didn't let at least Toby have it, which I thought was weird.
-
I know this is off topic but what book was Toby introduced in?
-
Hork-Bajir chronicles, but I'm not sure about main series.
-
Toby was aroun 2 years old by the end, and nearly full grown.
-
Officially she makes her first main series appearance in 23.
-
Wow they develope fast
-
It was stated that Hork-Bajir grow up much faster than Humans, but also have a shorter life span. Obviously the Arn designed them to physically mature very fast so that they could get to work farming their trees faster. Toby would only have developed so fast mentally because she was a Seer.
Toby would have been very useful as a morpher, but her first duty was to her people, not the Animorphs. She was responsible for looking after them and leading the raids against Yeerk facilities to free more Hork-Bajir. The other Hork-Bajir would not have wanted to put her at greater risk. Besides, it's not like she needed a battle morph, lol.

true, but morphing would be helpful to heal injuries.
fanfic, anybody? toby with morphing powers?

I always wondered about Toby eventually getting the morphing power and gaining a spot on the team, especially near the end of the series.
The other Hork-Bajir wouldn't have been ideal candidates to be trusted with it, as it was mentioned in #50 that they didn't have the mental capacity to be able to handle the transformation, or any of the foreign animal instincts. But Toby was always the exception though, and she would've been a great addition to the team, so it confused me as to why they never addressed this.
What Phoenix said above is also right too, her duty was to her people first and foremost, but that still shouldn't have stopped the Animorphs from sharing their power with her. She could have been put on reserve like the auxiliaries if they were that worried, and the free hork-bajir were allies with them all the way anyway, so it would've been awesome if they had gone this route. I kept wishing for this to happen while the series was running :P

Yeah, it wouldn't have hurt Toby to have the morphing power.
It probably just never occured to the writing team. ::)

Human morph Toby, that'd be something. Watch, she dates Marco.

 You guys and your romance fanfics...
-
Applegate loves the interspecies relationships.

Yeah, I had wondered that too. The HBJs recon and rescue missions would've gone a lot smoother if Toby could morph into either flying, small, huge animals. Oh, I just thought of another good thread topic for discuss.
